The IPCC’s Fourth Assessment claimed that “there is strong evidence” of sea level rising over the last few decades. It goes as far as to claim: “Satellite observations available since the early 1990s provide more accurate sea level data… This decade-long satellite altimetry data set shows that since 1993, sea level has been rising at a rate of around 3mm yr–1, significantly higher than the average during the previous half century.”
Almost every word of this is untrue. Satellite altimetry is a wonderful and vital new technique that offers the reconstruction of sea level changes all over the ocean surface. But it has been hijacked and distorted by the IPCC for political ends.
In 2003 the satellite altimetry record was mysteriously tilted upwards to imply a sudden sea level rise rate of 2.3mm per year. When I criticised this dishonest adjustment at a global warming conference in Moscow, a British member of the IPCC delegation admitted in public the reason for this new calibration: “We had to do so, otherwise there would be no trend.”

I have to say that I am proud of this government for standing up to the envirowhackos by pulling out of Kyoto. Next, to completely quit listening to everything coming out of the UN regarding climate. Finally, stop funding the UN and the CBC.
Even if it were true, so what? That’s hardly a catastrophic rise in an extremely short time. Sea levels have been rising slowly for as long as the massive ice sheets that covered most of the northern land masses have been melting.
However, since there is a climate conference to go to every year at this time, expect the greenie types and media stooges to be doing their bit to keep the scam alive. I mean an all expenses paid (by taxpayers) trip to an exotic location once a year is a pretty nice perk.

Daniel, it’s not treason but it is illegal. An elected official of the Government of Canada cannot also be acting on behalf of the government of a foreign nation. At the very least, she should be asked to resign her seat in the House.

Secondly, Dr. Mörner doesn’t do anything as onerous as direst measurement of sea level — he uses among other things a dowsing rod.

Local newspaper Ystads Allehanda reports on new fieldwork in Ravlunda by amateur archaeologist Bob G Lind and retired geology professor Nils-Axel Mörner. The last time the two enthusiastic gentlemen interfered with the Iron Age cemetery in question, they were reprimanded by the County Archaeologist. Now they are clearing brush from the site in order to make their imagined Bronze Age calendar alignments clearer.
Future plans include magnetometry mapping. Mörner is quoted as believing that this technique will allow the pair to map individual ancient footprints in the subsoil, because in his opinion, magnetometry maps “compressed earth”.

foobert- You’re not the only one, there’s a fairly active study of plate tectonics, etc. It’s much easier to keep track, now that GPS can measure height, based on the ellipsoid model. The only possible way to throw off GPS, is for the main base to shift. Since the US and Russia both have bases, the chances of error are very slight. Granted, GPS accuracy is only within a couple of MM, but with averaging, it’s very reliable.
I still can’t figure out why people who look at the ocean on a regular basis, believe Al Gore instead of their own eyes.

I did an extremely sensitive scientific experiment about 1/4 mile from my daughters house at the North Carolina /Beach/Ocean..
I used white spray paint and put two stripes around a wooden fishing pier column.
(the paint will turn yellow)
After 5 years the ocean has neither risen or fallen on that fishing pier column at low tide or high tide..

The extra weight may cause the island to tip over and plummet to the bottom of the ocean. That can happen.
My grand-daughter just informed me that my fishing pier ocean level white stripe painting research was misleading.
She said I painted the stripes 3 years ago..

At L’Anse aux Meadows in northern Nfld the sea level supposedly is about 1 m lower than it was when the Vikings inhabited the place.
That makes good sense, as it would have made the site more useable. But in any event that change is ascribed to post-glacial rebound.
3 mm per year rise over the last 30 years? I think we would have noticed that in St. John’s harbour.

Thanx for that Black Mamba. There I was…assuming again…that the airport would have been built at the center of the island. But I didn’t think lizzie would have gone looking for the beach…considering the oceans were rising …and all !!
I’m neither activist nor geologist but it has occurred to me that sea level is probably as difficult and possibly impossible to establish as a global temperature.
Tim Ball has enumerated the reality that there is NO GLOBAL TEMPERATURE due to (among other things)a lack of a complete network of monitoring stations especially with the 3/4 of the globe being ocean.
Sea-level is just a guess, when the effects of continental drift(with it’s associated subduction etc), techtonic shift (volcanism), glacial subduction, isostatic rebound, the simple settling of sediment(river deltas) and the inconvenient truth that volcanic islands are just cinder cones (volcanic ash) which are not granite monoliths….where can you establish a tidal guage which is not affected by any of these factors.
Then consider the lunar and solar tides….the effects of the large oceanic oscilations such as the Pacific Decadal Oscilation….
General observations are possible such as coral formations deposited during the Eemian (1 back) interglacial high up in Hawaii….which are also subject to settling(and other factors….volcanic islands)…
It’s all just vague specultion….
