Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The truth is out there…
We lived in Newt’s disctrict in northwest Atlanta for a decade. At EVERY meeting, in EVERY discussion or debate, Newt was/is consistently the smartest, most fact-filled and persuasive person in the room. I just wish he weren’t on wife #3 after departing the first two in somewhat ‘ungallant’ circumstances – THAT’S going to be hard to overcome once Democrats decide it’s Newt’s turn for a media crucifiction.
Nice how these political aholes can turn on a dime and simply say “oops” then all is supposed to be forgiven.
If he was so smart, why would he have ever stood side by side with that crazy loon Pelosi in the first place?

“At EVERY meeting, in EVERY discussion or debate, Newt was/is consistently the smartest, most fact-filled and persuasive person in the room.”
Re Newt’s marital matters…the Democrats seem to invoke a double standard…..
Simple body language makes me question the geneology of Mooshelle’s 2 kids….not that that should be any of our concern….but….
At the time, the warming side was in it’s hayday and old Newt just did some cheap self promoting IMO…He said it was a dumb move…I’ll take him at his word.
I think he gave an admirable and well informed opinion on the matter just the same.
If the Dem machine/MSM succeed in destroying Cain, Gingrich is definitely the next best GOP candidate…The more things are unfolding, the more a Gingrich/Cain ticket is in the rhealm of probable than the other way around.
Davers6 has a very good point. Gingrich’s REAL intelligence, experience and articulateness (as opposed to blarney and skill with a teleprompter) is diminished only by some personal life actions. If Newtie were a Democrat, the MSM would totally cover him on this. Short of murdering wives 1 and 2, he’d get a total free pass.
Taking a deep, honest and fair look into a presidential candidate’s personal life is necessary. He/she must be a known quantity. That’s where our “fourth estate” willfully consistently fail with “progressive” candidates and consistently lie and bloviate with conservative ones.
Re. Herman Cain and the alleged incidents of sexual harassment, I’m old enough to remember well the put-up job the Democrats did on Clarence Thomas. More background is coming out on these accusers and I get the same sense of put-up job on Herman Cain as I did with Clarence Thomas.

As a Canadian, I’m shocked you seem to be unaware of the circumstances of Newt’s first failed relationship.
His daughter, 13 years old at the time, said last week that it was he mother who sued for divorce. Her examination for the cancer scare (proven malignant) happened several months after the divorce papers were processed.
Much different than the ‘Newt divorced his wife while she was undergoing cancer treatment’ story spun by the Democrats.
As for the circumstances involving Calista, that’s a much different story.
And, I’d bet, not much different than many people’s own life stories as they switched from spouse to spouse after an affair.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Or something like that.
Worth Watching.
Newt Gingrich 2+2=4 and more

A most interesting column.
Finally, Mr. Gingrich announced that as the Republican nominee he would challenge President Obama to seven Lincoln-Douglas-style debates. “I think I can represent American exceptionalism, free enterprise, the rights of private property and the Constitution, better than he can represent class warfare, bureaucratic socialism, weakness in foreign policy, and total confusion in the economy.”

I don’t argue that Newt isn’t smart. He is. I just think that the GOP needs a nominee that isn’t such an obvious long-time Washington insider. He’s too “Old Boys’ Club” for my taste. Where Newt could really be valuable is as an advisor. Somebody with his experience could be set loose on Social Security and Medicare and probably come up with some great options. He was one of the architects of Welfare Reform under President Clinton, remember.
RE: it was a dumb move for Newt to sit on that couch with Nancy P. I’d say “dumb” is a huge understatement.
Not for nothing is he considered the best debater across all parties. His answer here was pitch-perfect and crisp. What I know about science could be written on the back of a match box but I’ve made a similar point to my former interlocutors: 12,000 years ago a one mile thick slab of ice covered Edmonton. What happened!!??
AND politically astute: frankly, unabashedly admitting he was dumb.
BUT, as Knight 99 observes, being in an ad with the certifiable loon Pelosi was egregiously poor judgment. Almost bad enough to cross him off. Does he really think Pelsoi is a reach-across-the-aisle gal?
Thanks for that info about Newt, set you free. I didn’t know that.
But what about his allegedly owing $750,000 to Tiffany’s? He was asked about, didn’t deny it but dismissed it as irrelevant. Is it?
I don’t dislike Newt but I can’t shake my doubt about his character.
And Cain has finally hired a tough libel lawyer to defend him from these scurrilous attacks.

Nice to see the back peddling by the Politicians. I think their finally getting it in some quarters.
Global warming is a &UN backed Global tax for dictators. Its designed to destroy the industrial worlds economies.
RHTT @ 1:24 p.m. I agree with your comment and think Newt Gingrich will be the best Vice President since “Teddie Roosevelt”; Cheers
Rather than scorn Newt for changing his views on global warming, we should congratulate him. If more did that … we might make some headway.
“it is a fool who never changes his mind” – Don’t remember who said that, but it’s true.
If they’ve lost Newt Gingrich, they’ve lost America. . . or something like that.
I said 2.5 years ago that my ideal GOP ticket would be Newt/Palin. I will admit that I was swayed by the numbers when Rick Perry was to enter the race, but I was quickly turned-off by RP the first time I heard him speak. I’m back on the Newt train, as some might have noticed over the last few months.
Newt/Rubio or Newt/Cain 2012
Two more things about Newt.
Style: I believe Newt has been the most inclusive of all the GOP candidates. He has also been the most positive, wrt his campaign, and his vision. He’s the opposite of Obama who wishes to divide and conquer. If his POSITIVE message gets-out to the public, he’ll be tough to beat.
Substance: Newt offers the most substance and obfuscates the least when it comes to difficult questions. B.O’Reilly has been stumping politicians for years from Obama, to Palin, to most recently Cain and Romney when he asks this simple question: what would you do different about Iran? Newt answered a similar question in yesterday’s interview directly, with specifics! THIS is exactly what Americans have been asking of their politicians if I can take the Frank Luntz’s focus groups as an indicator of what people are looking for. It’s also why Cain is resonating on economic issues because of his straight to the point answers. The bottom line is… Newt is the only person in Presidential politics with the depth of knowledge and experience across the entire scope of issues today.
I just watched Newt in a half hour roundtable on Fox. He was very impressive. Very knowledgable on all the issues. Also very frank and candid on all the issues. As to his personal life he said it best when he pointed out that he close to his children and grandchildren. That speaks volumes. Yes he has been around a long time but we are living with a president who has hardly been around at all and it shows. Perhaps having an experienced hand at the tiller is just the ticket. Lastly, he would demolish Obama in the debates.
Good summation Homez except I like Cain/Newt…
Newt Gingrich is a man with relevant experience, a true conservative, well spoken, not given to volatile immature behaviour, no record of introducing or supporting controversial anti-constervative legislation. He’s just credible and Americans need a credible, experienced, mature President. He’s there if they just give him an opportunity.
“Global warming is a &UN backed Global tax for dictators. Its designed to destroy the industrial worlds economies.”
Quite true, as far as it goes, but from everything I am seeing of late, the industrial world’s economies are doing a pretty good job of destroying themselves without any UN backed Global Tax.
He’d rip Obamassiah to shreds in an open debate.
He’d make the Boy Messiah look like a fool.
And he’d be an excellent POTUS . . he knows government has to be redesigned & shrunk by at least a third.
A decade ago I was cheering Gingrich for president. He has the drive and the intelligence. Easily the best in the field.
But I think his baggage is too heavy.
Still, as Cain flames out (and is not the right man regardless) and Romney is not respected by anyone (he’s just most likely to win, but who really will fight for him), Gingrich has demonstrated staying power when 6 months ago they said he was toast.
I’d support him if I thought had a realistic chance of winning. Worth watching.
Old Lori
I agree on Newt but disagree on the Cain flameout…the current center of America voter is less inclined to consider sexual malfeasance in the face of fiscal disaster…
Maybe Newt is too smart for his own good. Smells just like a rino to me. Another oily Washington old boy club insider dinosaur. Please just go away.
Guys like him are the ones who have been raping and pillaging taxpayers for decades. Not worthy of respect or votes.

It’s not the sexual allegations that turn me off Cain. I love listening to him talk. I agree with 95% of what he says. But I am convinced that he is another man who talks a good show but who has serious issues with lack of experience and lack of knowledge on key foreign and domestic issues. Cain does not strike me as a details man, or someone who thinks before he shoots off his mouth.
Cain would be a great spokesman for conservatism. He could have a place in cabinet. He has some good economic ideas. But ideas have to be put into play and politics is a full contact sport that quickly buries the unwary, or even those who think they know what they are getting into, but haven’t really faced the full force of the opponents’ fury.
In my years have learned that in the long run experience and planning > intelligence > talk in politics. Newt actually beats Cain on all three. His problem is optics.
It’s a year to the election… maybe slow and steady Newt can reintroduce himself to the independents as a rational conservative, while maintaining his appeal to traditional conservatives who would see him as a less bad choice than Romney.
Right now though Gingrich vs 0bama is a total disaster, whereas Romney vs 0bama is a dead heat.

If Gingrich has that kind of money to spend on his wife, whose business would that be?
dhimmi:
Got it a bit wrong.
His daughter came out with the statement in May.
Here’s the link:

This is why nobody should believe smears about a political figure coming from another politician.
Do your own research and the truth always comes out.

They are both American Blacks, Cain & Thomas. They both have limited connections to the EU/UN
Obama & Holder are “UN Blacks” that got the Harvard preferred slots intended for descendants of Slavery.. (AKA UN Breeding Stock)
I think it will be the straw that breaks the elite’s (think tank) control over the MSM. The truth is obvious to anyone!
Why, after ~15 years, is someone so bitter about nothing?
Gingrich is not a remotely serious candidate. He has said before that he will not cut entitlements and has articulated no serious changes to spending or foreign policy. He actually called Paul Ryan’s (feeble) plan a “radical change” that amounts to “right-wing social engineering” on national television. Of course, he weaselled.

set you free:
I believe the story was that he OWED Tiffany’s a large sum that wasn’t forthcoming from him.
I could be wrong.

I find I agree fully with Rob B. As to experience, I think the US needs a leader of CHARACTER who is an outsider and not limited by inside-the-box-beltway “thinking”.
And as to foreign affairs, how ’bout butting out of foreign affairs for a few decades. The US fooks up everything it touches. I think some good ole fashioned isolationism would be good here despite Iran’s sabre rattling.
The little left wing weasel RINO did a lot of slippery sloping….he’s a danger/..
Just watched the debate. Gingrich spoke well but Cain was Reaganesque; producing simple answers that were a level above anyone else’s in clarity and forcefulness. Cain will see a major jump in the polls, as will Romney, who was very adept; Newt was pretty good, but not as good as Romney and Cain.
Re the Tiffany’s thing – Newt has a VERY substantial income from his books, speeches, etc. If Tiffany’s wants to grant him $750K of credit that’s the business of their accounts receivable dept … he didn’t walk in with a gun and mask and ROB them, they allowed him to buy it on credit and you can bet he’s paid for it.
OF COURSE he’s imperfect and his baggage, because he’s a freekin’ POLITICIAN! But at least he’s a TRULY CONSERVATIVE politician who could CRUSH the entire Obama socialist apparatus.
Newt….no way no how ever…..! Some say you are the smartest, if you did global warming ads with Madame Pelosi and Reverend Race baiter Sharpton that proves to me that you are DUMB!
