Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
This was fantastic.
So very true.
Thank you so much Charles Adler for saying what the majority think but unfortunately stay silent.
God Bless Canada –
The Best Country in the World
but we have to be not as generous to those who take advantage of us – from now on.
Generosity is predicated on the gratefulness of the recipient.
Otherwise it’s sheer idiocy.
I can hardly wait to hear what the vitriolic left have to say about this. Bring it on leftards.
Thanks to Charles Adler for saying what NEEDED to be said. Superb!

Please enough of Telaban Jackass Layton
It will be interesting to see how many millions come pouring in to the foundation in Jack’s name…
Charles, paying taxes, by force of law, only to have those funds consumed by free-riding leeches and their political enablers (but I repeat myself) is not an act of charity. Wise up.
Classic:
Stephen Lewis…doesn’t need a GPS to find a government grant.
The problem with turning Jack into a saint is that no future NDP hopeful will ever be able to compare.
All of this twaddle about Canadian values, fer Gawd’s sake, why does every citizen of a nation of 32 million people have to have the same values?
Especially wrong ones, but that doesn’t seem to deter the usual suspects.
Anyway, for all the lofty sounding rhetoric, it still remains true that in Canada today, we have a woman in prison for half of the past two decades for the enormous crime of holding up a sign outside an abortion clinic. (Linda Gibbons)
If that’s a Canadian value then no thanks.
Well said Charles.
Like Charles’s family, both my wife’s and my came here for freedom and never mooched a dime of taxpayers money. Some had enough funds to pay their passage to Canada and some had travel debt owing Canadian Pacific. Some even lived in granaries in the late 1920s and early 1930s with rats running over the bunks, but never took a dime from the taxpayer. They were just grateful to be in a free country. They did not get on their feet until enough children were old enough to work on farms to help provide. They never took a dime from the taxpayer. Some of the children fought in WW II, some of the older ones had rented and then bought farms. Others worked in factories. A few of the real young ones went to university. By the 1950s all children and grandchildren were successful members of society in various occupations or business. None ever took welfare.
Sorry to go on, but I get so sick of the entitlement mentality that is so pervasive these days, especially when it touted by a lying political party whose radical members with veiled values that would put us back to the hell hole that we came from.
I repeat, well said Charles and repeat what John said @ 3:29, God Bless Canada and Canada is the best country in the world.
The evolution of political thinking, as I see it.
Youth always looks toward the NDP, when you’re young and idealistic….it’s perfect. The world will take care of you, free education, no work required, ah the sixties… flowers for everyone.
Then you mature, grow up and you might lean towards liberal. Give the basic needs to everyone, hoping everyone will get a job, but if not…’hey we found some money here, pass it around. Then force ‘your rights’ on every single person and mandate that you wave it in eachother’s faces.
Finally after watching society look like a bad bacteria culture, like something left behind in the back of the fridge…. you turn Conservative or at least acknowledge it’s underlining values. You want fellow Canadians to have the basic fundamentals of life, but not at your expense. No, you want to help those in need, but you’ve watched how previous systems have coddled people & made them dependant on the system. Now if they’ve worked and contributed to society & taxes, then it’s only fair they get assisted as they are less able to provide. But 3rd generation welfare, that’s unexcusable…if you are hungry enough, you will find work. So, having worked your whole life, saved & held back. You don’t want to be robbed or taxed to death, just because John / Sue have a hang nail and don’t wanna work today, but really need to eat, while playing PS3.
Provide the basics, but leave them hungry enough to go to work and contribute.
Cheers!
@ Ken Kulak = Bravo and ditto for me.
This part of the article though so stood out in contrast to say those that settled under the Homestead Act:
“You knew that I would never buy into how you saw the working class from your vantage point in the upscale tony neighborhood you grew up in far far removed from the blood, and sweat and fears on our side of the tracks. You knew that our path to middle class was saving some dough, buying a little store and working our tail bones off so we could buy our own house and eventually maybe another one to rent out and save some up some dough. That’s what we hard working immigrants did”.
Very sincere letter from Charles to Jack.
Unfortunately, the followers of Jack Layton(+) and the “Necrophilia Demogoguery Party” (NDP) continue with the political circus. There’s a big debate in Toronto about what should be done with the thousands of chalk graffiti eulogies etched on the walls by “the People” around city hall — heaven forbid that the writings from “the People” to Jack should be erased by the next rainfall. Maybe they should enplasticate the walls to preserve “the People’s” adulation forever! (I suggest that Toronto City Hall should consult the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea on how to do it — they are experts at preserving copious public symbols of one-party-State leaders).
“The People” are especially expressing anxiety about Toronto’s new “right-wing” Mayor — Rob Ford — who has been cleaning up graffiti in the city. What a shame it would be if the chalk graffiti were removed from the dozen or so hardwood doors at the entrance of City Hall. After all, the chalk scrawlings eulogizing Jack — at 10 cents a pop for a piece of chalk — are worth far more than the magnificent artesenal hardwood doors themselves which probably only cost the Toronto taxpayer about $10,000 each.
But then, nobody ever accused a Dipper of being balanced.
And I do think Charles Adler was too generous to Jack Layton in his letter by assuming that Layton himself had nothing to do with the over-the-top adulation. Because if you watched the Layton funeral it was clear from the comments of the “Reverend” Hawkes who presided, that the eulogy was pre-arranged by Jack and himself even before Layton made his last public appearance when he announced that he was temporarily stepping down. It appears that it was scripted by Layton himself and he even laid out what would be covered by the “Reverend” in his own eulogy to Layton. Hawkes explained that it was done in advance in case Layton did not recover, and that it was “filed away” back in July.
It appears that Layton’s eulogy was politically scripted by Saint Jack himself.
Absolutely brilliant. The best piece I’ve read about Jack Layton since his passing.
since the cbc is a Canadian institute, and since Mr Adler is Canadian, and since the dictates of fair play require equal time for all, and since jacko was a fan of equality…I expect this letter to appear on the cbc news, both on-air and on the net at least as often as jacko’s ghostwritten diatribe did
Well-said yourself, Ken (Kulak). I have nothing but profound admiration for the immigrants who came to Canada at the time your family did — and for their hard work and loyalty to Canada and its democratic freedoms.
I can only imagine how immigrants who came to Canada from countries where there were no freedoms must feel as they see socialists trying to form a government that would curtail our genuine rights and freedoms. It’s like Little Red Riding Hood discovering that her grandmother in bed is actually the Big Bad Wolf.
‘A nightmare.
Heard Stephen Lewis, that tearful bag of poop on cbc this a.m. What a self adulating(word?) windbag. He thinks all that happened in T.O. this past week is in fact a “national” outpouring of grief, and a sea-change in Canadian politics. What a CLOWN. Sorry, had to do the capital letter thing.
Boy did Charles Adler hit a grand slam with this piece. It really pisses me off that Lewis and his followers, who think of themselves as the best kind of people on earth, have the audacity to say that conservatives such as myself who give a ton of their time to charity (I’m a Kinsmen) aren’t generous enough. Eff you!
“since the cbc is a Canadian institute, and since Mr Adler is Canadian, and since the dictates of fair play require equal time for all”
The dictates of fair play also require that SNN get a fair-sized chunk of the $1.5 billion annual welfare payment earmarked for the CBC. On the other hand, considering the ratings, SNN doesn’t need the taxpayer handout as badly as does the CBC.
Does anyone out there have any idea as to if and when PMSH is going to cut the CBC’s umbilical cord?
South Side: Amen. Lewis’s eulogy was nothing less than a highly partisan political attack on the current government. It had utterly no place at a funeral.
Happy infidel: No he’s not a clown. He’s far too dangerous for that and with far too vile a personality. His sense of humour is virtually zero, overridden entirely by self-righteousness. And this aristocratic piece of sh!t in a silk stocking nearly became Ontario’s premier in 1985. And he did become Canada’s ambassador to the UN.
cgh @ 10:42, “No he’s not a clown. He’s far too dangerous”, exactly.
I heard it on the way home today. Thought it an excellent piece.
For starters, Adler needs to stop patting himself on the back and take his meds. Then he should learn how Canada’s parliamentary system actually works.
Well then Iberia, your shoulder joints must be unusually sore. But then, you’re incapable of anything resembling learning.
Ken (Kulak)
Well said. Its why I support REAL immigrants like your family, but despise the Colonists.
You know the ones who want us all to experience the hellhole they came from, by making us one as well.
The economic bloodsuckers who come here as well to live off the work of others.
We have to go back to picking the people who want a chance to be Canadian from those who’s only motive is to abuse & use the system. Worse, force others to be like them.
Your generation deserves accolades. This one, not to many. They have made being a bum, drug addict, or conman societally acceptable.
This Country would not have the riches except for folks like you Ken. From Chinese rail workers, to Italian bakeries, Ukrainian labor to Greek restaurant’s. The list is endless . To bad the Trudeau liberals destroyed those hopes for others while coddling the monsters. Including the home grown feral man children. If not the crooks welcomed with open arms.
