I was at Yonge-Dundas Square with my nine-year-old son. We ate pizza. We drank bubble tea. And I used my new Canon camera to take photos of this neon shrine.
Suddenly, a woman wearing a hijab ran toward me. She was part of a group that included two women wearing full face-covering burkas. She was screaming: “We are Muslim! You do not take pictures of us!” (Odd. I can’t find the “no photos” rule in the Qur’an.)
I informed the lady I was in a public square in a democracy. I can actually take pictures of whomever I please.

I live near yonge and dundas and i am 99% sure the woman in the story is a Saudi. I see the saudi’s always lazily hanging about yonge and dundas giving passer bys dirty looks (or in the case of saudi men they like to eye the ladies in their summer dresses). Anyways these folks are not citizens and not immigrants, their government pays big bucks to the universities in down town so they can enroll in them.
This allows the saudis to come here, do nothing and pay for their university to let them take courses. I ran into that nonsense at West Edmonton Mall a while back. The muzzies were apparently celebrating something or other and they were there in large numbers. I was taking pictures in the Galaxyland arcade of the rides and the Mindbender etc when a couple of women (I assume they were women) in burlap sacks came over and told me that I was not allowed to take pictures of them because they were muslims. I told them that I was in a well-known tourist attraction and that if they didn’t want to be in my picture they should leave. After threatening to break my camera they moved away but there was a definite uncomfortable atmosphere about the place, and until I finally moved on I was aware that all eyes were on me and there was a danger that violence might result. The funny thing, upon considering it later, is that West Edmonton Mall was owned by a Jewish family of immigrants from Iran and by all considerations should have been boycotted by devout muslims. Fortunately I was never in a position to have to call on mall security for assistance.
I am sorry but taking photograph of people like that in public without their permission is just plain rude.
Now that doesn’t justify punching on the face but the police did the right thing.

I’ve had this happen to me (I’m not Muslim) and simply asked the photographer not to take my picture. I didn’t take a swipe at him or try to dislodge the camera from his grip.
On another note besides domesticating their Dhimmi servants to their whims, I wonder how many of them just don’t want photo’s floating around due to their terrorist connections.
Again any Muslim country I’ve ever been too it’s never been a problem.
As a matter a fact a story happened to me last week:
I was walking in downtown Montreal on sherbrooke street. I was holding my phone in front of me and reading some pages while scanning the horizon passively. Then I passed close to a muslim lady who was veiled. I didn’t touch but close. Then that muslim guy who was with her (the husband I assume) stepped in front of me and tapped his foot on the ground in front of me as a kind of warning.
I was like WTF and I continued walking like if nothing happened.
Then 10 meters later, I looked back and the guy was still looking at me. Then I continued walking without looking back.
WTF!!!
Now that doesn’t justify punching on the face but the police did the right thing.
So how did the “police” do the right thing?

Just watched the superb interview with Mark Steyn and Ezra. Mark noted at the end of the interview that we as a society must fight the small wrongs like this assault before they become overwhelming and impossible for the average person to fight back.
The police officer should have definitely charged this woman as this was common assault with witnesses. If this had been done the word would spread in the muslim community that they can not just do what they want. We are a nation of laws and without respecting those laws we will collapse as a country. As many posters have noted this intimidation by muslims works so they will do more of it.
The police have helped this along with their actions or lack of it during the G20, Caledonia, Vancouver and prosecution of those defending their homes and businesses.

I can see this inexcusable action by a Muslim group but the police are starting to let me down.
