Radical in the House

In an unprecedented move, a 21 year-old over-indulged narcissist of the Far Left (is that redundant?) was fired from her job as a Parliamentary page on Friday. This totalitarian thug/nitwit, who completely rejected the Democratic Will of the Canadian people, tried to spin her selfish little actions as “The Canadian version of an Arab spring”.
Undoubtedly all of her life her parents told her how “special” she was. What would be really special is if her actions made her unemployable for at least the next few decades. But undoubtedly she’ll get a job with some Radical Left activist group . . . funded directly or indirectly by your tax dollars. Ain’t our modern society with entitlements but no responsibility just grand?!
Update: Further info here, including a job offer from PSAC.
Open Question: Is it possible for the federal government to change the law, forbidding unions to exist amongst government employees on the grounds that their existence are an antithesis to civil democracy and good governance?
Update 2: A poll on the matter! (h/t maz2)

  1. Joe,
Whatever, you kind of proved the point. Someone can have the tools but either be underusing them or misusing them.
Psuedo Intellectauals, absolutely. Enmoured with the ideas, spouting lists of pre digested slogans and not capable or willing to defend them any deeper. We agree on what she is….honestly, her IQ isnt really important at this stage, though dismissing her as “not smart” (isnt that just calling her stupid) doesn’t really help understand what she is, what she represents etc.
This is happeneing more often recently, a back to the future the last time there was a large cohort of youth….late 60’s. I would argue this is similar. As well as being tied to the radicalization that happens when the left has lost power. Its always the end of the world, opposition is expressed in apocalyptic terms, when its a moral battle of “good and evil” many things get justified.
Brace yourself it will only get worse, but I think you already know that.

  2. Leftists are totalitarian thugs when in power, and anarchist thugs when out of power.
Leftists are fascists and vice versa.
As far as the ad hominem attacks on the leftards that come in here daily to troll, who f***ing cares?
These leftist morons set the tone, if they wanted it different it would be.

  3. I don’t call what DePape/Marcelle (she wanted an alias so her parents wouldn’t know what she was doing: LOL!) did “free speech.”
She disrupted the Throne Speech, which was a grave abrogation of her privileges and duties as a Parliamentary Page. IMO, firing her is too lax a penalty; she’s going to talk her infantile antics into any number of job offers, so losing her job is not a meaningful consequence in this case, especially as she was only three weeks away from its completion.
There should be penalties exacted for such a brazen breach of Parliamentary decorum. There’s a reason for all of the rules, and when you break them, there should be penalties exacted, not just being let go from your position.
I would like to see some accountability on Ms DePape/Marcelle’s part, perhaps a fine of some kind and if not a letter of apology (it wouldn’t be sincere), at the very least an admission that she had broken her contract with Parliament — and, therefore IMHO, with the people of Canada of which Parliament is our representative.
She’s free to her opinion but not to treat our duly elected and democratic government, parliamentarians, and the Canadian people with contempt.

    “Student debt bankrupting a generation”
“Nereid Lake has a thick file of paperwork documenting her $60,000 in student loan debt.”
“In 2006, Nereid Lake was a single mom with an undergraduate degree in French linguistics from Simon Fraser University and well on her way to a master’s degree in linguistics when Canada Student Loans informed her she had exceeded the lifetime lending limit of the federal program and would have to leave university — without her degree.
At the time, she had accumulated about $60,000 in student loans.
“Even though I had an armload of academic awards, I was forced to leave,” she says. “My aspiration was to work in the field of voice recognition cognitive science, getting computers to understand human language. Instead I had to take the first job I could, as a low-earning court clerk. Now I’m nearly 40 just barely making ends meet and still owe more than $50,000 in student debt. I naively thought student loans would be the great equalizer. Instead I’ve plunged into a student debt nightmare.”
Ms. Lake is not alone. Nearly two million Canadians have student loans. That debt is worth about $20-billion and includes federal and provincial government loans and personal debt in the form of credit cards, family loans and lines of credit all used to finance post-secondary education. And that number is only set to grow as student loans owed to the government of Canada alone increase by $1.2-million a day. At the same time, the amount of unrecoverable student loan debt now sits at $149.5-million.
“That figure is absolutely growing,” says David Molenhuis, chairman of the Canadian Federation of Students in Ottawa. “Next year even more money will have to be lent out in record amounts, while monthly deliquency rates continue to trend up.”

  6. @batb = right on.
I suppose when I read some of the comments and saw the interviews it maddened me because WE the People elected Harper and how dare this spoiled activist/brat claim the CPC do NOT represent the people – Canadians.
And especially now. I have just got my crop in and the outcome here is always a hope and a prayer. I don’t have time to go and sit around in a fairy circle demanding UN rights for everyone.
Maybe if she protested fair prices and returns for Farmers, less government intereference and fewer unions – I might join her.

  7. Altogether related to Brigette DePape’s hissy fit: from National Review, by Victor Davis Hanson:
    JUNE 2, 2011
“The Factory of Selective Moral Outrage
“. . . Understand the mechanics of selective outrage, and our upside-down politics becomes comprehensible: A state suing to enforce immigration law is tantamount to a racist intrusion on federal jurisdiction, but a state openly flouting federal statutes for the Dream Act is acting in enlightened, humanitarian fashion.
“Greedy Wall Street insiders at the center of the 2008 meltdown could not possibly include progressive bureaucrats and their liberal enablers in Congress, who are interested in people first, profits last. Everything in 2006 that we were told was near fascistic about national security suddenly evolved into what is wonderful and necessary. . . .”
    http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/268575/factory-selective-moral-outrage-victor-davis-hanson
Mme DePape reminds me of the entitled, bratty seven year old with whom I had an encounter of a close kind recently. Because, generally, they get away with it—the adults will not behave like adults and impose DISCIPLINE—we’re spawning generations of these brain dead bullies. Be afraid.

  8. As far as the left’s meltdown is concerned, this election just keeps on giving.
Minus Quebec, Conservatives achieved close to 50% of the popular vote and 70% of the seats. For English Canada, there is no competition. Yet, the left continues on in their make believe world that somehow they are collectively the majority and therefore speak for Canada.
More outrageously, they also believe they speak for democracy.
The only hope is to laugh at the juveniles.

  9. But…but…surely Nereid Lake, (maz2’s post), can apply for one of Ms DePape’s lucrative ‘Green Jobs’?
They’re still hiring down at the windmill…hurry, hurry!

  10. Good luck with your crop LS from SK!
I know what you mean by not being able to sit around fairy circles. The official feminists did a real number on women and children in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s while many of us real women were too busy raising our children and being helpmates of our husbands to be able to do the political lobbying they did. (We didn’t have the money, either. They, OTOH, were raking in the bucks from the Librano$.)
Given that many of them were single and childless, they had all the time in the world to fuel the war between the sexes and to turn women’s “rights” against the right to life of children.
    Topsy-turvy, inside-out, upside-down world we’re living in.

  11. This little U of O indoctrinated nit wit activist should be held accountable for her dangerous president setting stunt. Perhaps this spoiled little turd should be asked to pay back all the taxpayer money she has received working as a page. After watching her on CTV, CBC, wallowing in her new found celebrity as an activist lefty chimp, i would suggest she is not dealing with a full deck. Regurgitating Liberal/NDP talking points is proof enough of some form of derangement, but the glossy, far away look in her eyes suggests to me that this little girl has some serious mental health issues.

  12. Seeing that the Cons were found in contempt of parliament and that the previous members legally should not have been allowed to run in the election, this in comparison, is a minor incident.

  13. This whole disdain for Parliament thing surely can be traced back at least to the waiving of the Oath taken by new MPs. If some MPs have no respect for Parliament and Canada, it’s hardly surprising we’ve come to this.
You know the old saw “If the student hasn’t learned…”
On a point of information, how are new Pages selected?
Are their names put forward by Political Parties?
If there IS a politician involved then this needs to end up back on his/her desk!

  14. Pulling a fire alarm…making prank phone calls…the sort of stunts that all carry a “mischief” charge with them. What this young woman did on Friday should also result in a “mischief” charge being laid against her.
She can explain to a judge her absolute contempt of Parliament…and it would send a very loud messgae to any others contemplating similiar stunts that it won’t be tolerated.

  15. We all hope that these deranged young radicals move to the Middle East soon.
Try that stuff there especially after they get the Muslim Brotherhood running those countries.

  16. Just more of the same from the lame brained. It’s bad when Bush does it but okay for Obama. Harper is in contempt of parliament but this is soooo cool! So let me get this straight, it’s contempt of parliament only when the NDP says it is? Why shouldn’t Harper use his majority to find them in contempt of Canadians? The spoiled little brat needs a spanking.

  17. Seeing that the Cons were found in contempt of parliament and that the previous members legally should not have been allowed to run in the election, this in comparison, is a minor incident.” —johnamac
Another idiot trying to appear clever(your handle isn’t either).
Mr.Mac,the conservative majority could hold a vote declaring all other contempt votes illegitimate. It would have as much legitimacy as the one that the opposition did a few months ago. Grow up.

  18. Yes, good luck with your crop LS from SK! The crops north of Saskatoon are growing slowly and a lot of early seeded canola got too much frost and had to be reseeded. Big extra cost for those guys.
DaninVan has some good questions @ 6:43.
At the very least the process of selection and the security issues should be reviewed.

  19. @Ken – East of Nipawin is just getting going. A whole new meaning to “air seeding”.
But then one must be thankful that I didn’t need a “Fishing License” from DFO like many in PQ and elsewhere to remove nuisance carp from what was a small lake.
This “brat” represents the worst of central Canada – too much unproductive time on their hands pursuing useless degrees at “Last Chance U”.

  20. This incident is nothing more than expected leftist death throes. Nothing to see here.. move along.

  21. I think there is something to see here and it’s not the homemade sign the girl was holding.
What I see is a raising of the bar for these type of actions. Expect more of them and expect more nastiness.
The positive and supportive comments on her facebook page far outweigh the negative. The CBC poll is going the same way.

  22. Batb @ 4:10
Perhaps a vote on whether she is in contempt of parliament. The press slew the last guy that was found in contempt, didn’t they?
In other news, I doubt ‘Morticia’ is ‘Not Patricia’, she hasn’t called anyone racist yet.

  23. This is what real courage looks like:
    http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/rose.html
There is a movie, called `The White Rose`, about this group in Germany during Hitler`s rise; four of them were caught, tried, and executed….. For distributing leaflets.
A meeting with one of the group still alive:
    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/06/ugliness-and-beauty-in-germany.html
Read the comments to see the tone and switching that has taken place in Getrmany.

  24. Has Morticia been banned here in the land of free speech? For shame! I guess I’m not surprised. It’s not about free speech so much as it’s about hate screech around these parts.
    Enjoy your mutual masturbation!!!

  25. Actually, Wednesday Addams was major jailbait, and Morticia was quite the MILF. LeDumdum is just Pippi Longstocking with a bad dye-job – and yes, she’s stupid. I just watched a 5 minute interview with her and Evan Solomon. If I’d done a shot for every time she said “Harper’s agenda” I’d have alcohol poisoning.
Actually I blame her profs and her parents.
She disrupted Parliament; could she be charged? That’d learn her.

  26. @ Morticia Mutual masturbation is better than sleeping with a liberal pig !!!

  27. The CPC needs to realize that the whole Federal government is dripping with decades of liberal nepotism and cronyism. This is why this useful idiot popped-up so quickly. The purge needs to start now!
    Start with the CBC.

  28. “Has Morticia been banned here in the land of free speech? For shame! I guess I’m not surprised. It’s not about free speech so much as it’s about hate screech around these parts.
    Enjoy your mutual masturbation!!!”
That’s rich coming from someone who no doubt frequents Rabble.ca, the biggest group of circle jerk artists traped inside an echo chamber there ever was!

  29. “The positive and supportive comments on her facebook page far outweigh the negative. The CBC poll is going the same way.”
Signaller222, that’s what happens when you can selectively allow whose comments or votes get shown.
Ask the question, get the response you so choose!..
    Socialist liars the lot.

  30. Batb,thanks for the link.
I do not think that she is certifiable, but there are some issues there. Arrested development is almost certain, likely with genuine attention deficit disorder.
I’d hazard the guess that she was an awkward loner for most of her short adult life, and someone filled her head with nonsense and persuade her to pull this stunt.
Evan Solomon should have asked her if she had an affiliation with any of the other parties,or belonged to any political activist groups. It’s too bad he wasn’t a better journalist.

  31. Thanks wallyj there is 13 minutes I’ll never get back!
I should have known better after hearing her speaking about the legions of imaginary fellow travelers who “have to overthrow Harper”. A feat I am sure they will achieve right after they finish their next bong – well maybe after they go to McD’s for munchies – well maybe after. . .

  32. I guess we won’t see the last of the little page who could. Even poetry about the Oil Sands.
Brigette DePape writes and performs poems and plays. Her first play, penned at fifteen, was nominated for the Harry Rintoul Best New Manitoba Play award. Now 21 years old, she has three plays under her belt. Her one-woman show, She Rules with Iron Sticks, received five stars when she toured it on the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit. She has performed in over 20 plays and was granted the Zonta Theatre Arts award.
She will soon be graduating with a degree in international development and globalization from the University of Ottawa. During her studies, she jumped at every opportunity to take courses in creative writing. She is working on three major projects: a book of radical fairy tales for her nephew, a co-authored chapbook, pumpkin tops for party hats, and a one-act who’s protagonist is an ear of purple corn.
Brigette also writes non-fiction, including opinion editorials and for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. She has undertaken research in Senegal on the World Social Forum, in Bolivia on coca growing, in Winnipeg’s inner city on childcare for Indigenous children, as well as on Palestinian refugees who have been separated from their families. She is also involved in activism and helped to spearhead the Mining Justice Ottawa group. She aspires to be an activist/artist/academic.
Brigette has given one of her poems, fish lake, and one co-written with Aaron Kozak, balloon orchestra:
    fish lake
    what is fish lake
    with no fish
    and no lake?
    a tailings pond
    with toxic waste
    a tar cake
    delicious for shareholders
    but not for me
    thirsty indigenous tree

  33. Time will creep along for this misguided child. She’ll begin to work and perhaps enjoy some success as she matures. She’ll gain a husband and children and small home with two cars hopefully. And only then will she realize…holy smokes! I’m being taxed to death!. That’s when she’ll begin to vote conservative. Just like the hippies of the 60’s did. She’s not to blame for her silly antic. It’s the friggin’ marxist professors who damaged this kid. They should be held accountable. How many more kids are being silently indoctrinated in our schools? That my friends, is the heart of this story.

  34. Bob123 @ 12:12 a.m.: “Brigette also writes non-fiction, including opinion editorials and for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives”
    No, those are fiction.
    National Post article:
    http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/06/03/page-ejected-after-protest/
“She is a brilliant young woman”, Manitoba Liberal senator Sharon Carstairs is quoted as saying.
From the NP story: DePape “said she objected to the Conservative government’s policies and that Canada needs ‘green jobs and a transition to a green economy.'”
So the Canadian “Arab Spring” would consist of bypassing the democratically elected government in favour of the whims of one moron?
Le peuple, c’est moi. Louis XIV socialism.
If this is an example of the mental capacities of one “brilliant” young woman, then I’m Barack Obama.

  35. wallyj, last night, I watched and posted DePape’s “performance” at the TEDxYouthOttawa, 03/04/10 over at Blue Like You and was embarrassed watching her bumbling, earnest crap. Her audience, who you would think would be sympathetic to her message, was tepid in their response.
She obviously is full of herself and has been praised by adults far too many times, so that she thinks she’s very special and worthy of being listened to.
In Evan Solomon’s interview with her on the CBC, she kept repeating that 3/4s of Canadians had not voted for Prime Minister Harper. She’s mistaken and was never challenged.
Sixty percent of Canadians did not vote for the CPC(that’s less than 2/3s, not 3/4s) and 75% (a full 3/4s) of Mr. Harper’s constituents did vote for him; that’s the way our system works. I didn’t hear Depape mentioning that 70% (almost 3/4s) of Canadians didn’t vote for Jack Layton, or that 80% didn’t vote for Ignatieff, or 96% didn’t vote for Elizabeth May, the Queen of the Green Herself.
This girl is a grandstander and a self-promoter. On Solomon’s show, she coyly faced the camera and said that she was looking for job opportunities. ‘Could be that this utterly inappropriate and brazen act was all about finding herself a new job.

  36. As for DePape not being certifiable, I’ve seen far too many young women her age, all earnest and fired up about a cause, with the same doe/intense eyes and manic hand actions turn into full-blown crazies by the time they’re 40. They’ve lost all the allure of being young and passionate and become simply crazed, incoherent cyphers for whatever the crisis du jour is.
She’s babbling nonsense now. I can only imagine how much more dissembling is to come, seeing as no one seems to have disabused her of the misrepresentations and falsehoods she’s spouting.

  37. I hear you BATB. She may be a loon in waiting…lol..I still think the ‘professors’ who encouraged her way of thinking bear resposibility. Perhaps her obviously idiotic parents too.

  38. So poll says 60% agree with the silly girl. Only at CBC. Case closed.
If she finds employment, which name will she assume, her real name or her alias?

  39. It seems to be all about the theatrics. She’s a “performance artist” doing guerilla art. The fact that at the CBC poll, 60% agree with her…..would seem to imply that those 60% like to be entertained.

  40. Have any of you read the ridiculous comments over at the CBC Poll? Here are some examples, along with my thoughts:
@ 9:33am: “Brigette got her message out. Appropriate or Inappropriate, does it really matter?
I give her 5 stars for her courage”

What courage? There was never any physical threat to her. As for professional courage, she already has a job offer from PSAC. Undoubtedly other Leftard “think tank” groups will want to talk with her too. She undoubtedly knew her 15 minutes of game would garner her such opportunities.
@ 9:19am: she shoots, she scores! depape 1, harperism 0 depape sacrificed her job to make her point, yet the harperites will act as if it never happened. if depape had called a press conference last week, who would have known? good for you depape, i wish you the best with your 15 minutes. run with it.
“Harperism”? As in HDS = Harper Derangement Syndrome? The only thing the young, dishonourable twit did accomplish was to draw the anti-democratic thugs out from their hiding places like the cockroaches they are. These vile totalitarian wannabes clearly do not like nor respect democracy. They’re sore losers to the core.

  41. What courage, indeed, Robert. The protesters in Iran were courageous. The protesters in Tienanmen Square were courageous. Lech Walesa was courageous. All of the above risked LIFE and LIMB. This person risked what, her job? Please. She’ll make out just fine.
