The Incandescent Light Bulb Freedom Act, which unanimously passed South Carolina’s Senate panel, would allow South Carolina manufacturers to continue to sell incandescent bulbs so long as they have “Made in South Carolina” on them and are sold only within the state.
I’d prefer an Act announcing secession from the Union, but it’s a start.

Let there be LIGHT!
(that you can read from without getting tired eyes that you feel like scratching out of your head)
Goodonya, South Carolina.
Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the…mor-ha-horrr-Ning!
Yeah…
Thank you South Carolina.
You Light Up My Life:

Did you mean to write “secession”?
South Carolina seems like it’s a stand-up state, mostly. Plus, good golf courses.
To bad we do not have any provincial premiers in Canada with that kind of jam when our feds get stupid. Especially when stupid seems to be part of the federal DNA sometimes.
State’s Rights – lit up Fort Sumter!
State’s Rights – lit up Ft. Sumter. Yanks better not get too pushy.
Actually incandescants save me money.
I use incandescents(60W) on the porch in cold weather and a 100W equivalent twister in warm weather.
In the garage with a motion sensor incandescents last about a year or so….twisties about 2-3 months…..same with bath-rooms.
The light over the kitchen sink is a 20W florescent tube which is on 24/7 and lasts years…..and a small twisty over the TV on 24/7.
Before I insulated the dry well a 60W incandescent kept the frost out.
An associate uses twisties in his cattle barn (cold) and leaves them on 24/7 or it’s candle light. LIke my porch light if they are shut off long enough to cool off….they just glow.
BTW if these things run so cool…howcum ya can’t shake hands with them before they cool off.
oz those things spew out so much UV light I can read with my welding mask on with a 26W. (has to be close though…)
PS I do strange experiments sometimes.
i like twisty bulbs 🙂
u save cash long-term and they looks c00l!
@ Bob Devine, Alberta did try to oppose the firearms act in terms of LGR but was overruled by the Supreme Court.
I can see it now. People will be smuggling contraband incandescent bulbs across state lines. The ATF will be involved and will be renamed ATFELB: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives and Light Bulbs.
Ok I have to add to my prev. post.
CFL bulbs are great in certain applications but terrible for others. In an app where they are on/off constantly ie. bathroom light the ballasts fry in short order. If turned on and left on ie. an apartment hall light the are great – economical and ultra long lasting. Ive had CFLs last years in this app. Banning incandescents is short sighted and dumb because they last longer in some apps. and therefore save more energy (factoring in manufacturing costs) than CFLs.

Joel – you’re not supposed to inhale the gasses when one burns out. Hatters used to deal with a lot of mercury too.
The twisties are nothing more than a hastily thought up solution to the dreaded climate gate foisted upon us by the likes of the Goracle and Professor Fruitfly. The stupid things don’t work in cold, as in Canada weather, do not get up to proper light output for a long time, give off light in an unnatural portion of the light spectrum for humans, induce headaches and eye strain in many and probably have a bigger carbon footprint in their life cycle than incandescents, let alone the environmental impact of mercury. I’ll use regular incandescent bulbs as long as they are available or until halogen or LEDs become economically viable. Barring those alternatives I might go and invest in coal oil lamps.
Isn’t this how NASCAR got started?
Seriously, it is 45 degrees F this morning. I don’t have the heat on, but any spare calories from the light bulbs are most welcome.
I have not had good luck with these supposedly near immortal twisty bulbs and have begun to suspect that they exaggerate the life span to make them seem more economical than they really are…. Naaah! That’s crazy talk!
Thanks Mark – spelling corrected!
Oh good! A made-in-N.America bulb that will be the number 1 consumer black market item smuggled across borders by snow bird pack mules.
Wake up PMSH, time to repeal a lot of your silly moonbat-appeasing minority legislating. Start with the light bulb ban.
Bring on the light bulb police.
Not only that but Kate will soon have to change the name of her Blog.

Well if they need Heat Globes® in South Carolina, global warming must be a lie.
The twisty is a variant of the “ozone hole” Freon ban scam.
Twisties are remarkably bright if left on 24/7.
Scenario:
Ban no patent no profit incandescent bulbs.
Develop expensive patent protected “Photonic” bulbs
As an interim measure, push the use of expensive patented
“energy efficient” mercury vapour twisty bulbs.
Oopsy! The “Photonic” miracle super efficient super patented,
bulb development program seems to have run into a few “small
issues” and may be delayed a few years or decades.
.
compact fluorescent lamps release several cancer-causing chemicals such as phenol, naphthalene and styrene in a form of steam
If things don’t change in this country, might have to take a golf trip to South Carolina some day and bring back a case.
Well, in the event the new Harper majority doesn’t repeal this ridiculous legislation, I think I’ve got things covered.
As long as they are not exported by the manufacturer; the Feds can’t do a damned thing about it. Federal gov’t has no say in intra-state commerce.
That secession thing didn’t work out that well the last time for South Carolina. They would be better served staying in the union and poaching off business and industry from the labor cartel dominated states (aka the anti-right to work states).
I would take pleasure in disposing of mercury filled ‘twisties’
By corkscrewing them up the ass of Suzuki, Gore and every other brain dead Leftie.
Perhaps ,They might then-
See the Light.
Good for them! Hear hear!

The Democrats have had a policy of putting ultraliberal rubberstamps on the bench, so that they can get through judicial fiat what they can’t gain through legislation. The Constitution is irrelevant, as almost the entire Federal judiciary has been stocked with radical leftists. One more seat on the SCOTUS, and they’ll have the whole judiciary in their pocket.
Go here first: Reuters doesn’t say where the CFL bulbs were made.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110510/us_nm/us_recalls_bulbs
Then go here for Mao Stlong Lepolt:
“The Chinese-made bulbs were sold under the Telstar and Electra brand names in two styles: spiral and three-“U” shaped in 20 and 23 watts.”
“Telstar Products recalls light bulbs”
“Telstar Products recalls energy-saving light bulbs due to fire hazard”

Agree the ban on simple safe regular types of incandescents is wrong…
To update about South Carolina from what the post link says,
SC Bill is now in the Senate Labor Commerce and Industry Committee
having already passed in House 76-20 more than a month ago,
Also:
Similar Georgia State repeal passed in Senate vote:35-19 on 7th March, now in House,
and a likely Canada postponement to 2014 following the Government end March proposal
( http://ceolas.net/#li01inx with house of rep, senate, state and
other country light bulb bills and regulation information,
the website also covering the lack of logic behind the light bulb regulations)
