“The start of Rudd’s downfall can be traced back to December, when an attempt to pass vaunted emissions trading laws ended in embarrassing failure…”
Beauty.

Beauty.
I was in Australia at the time following this story including Abbott’s winning the leadership spill and the CRU scandal like a hawk. I mean, when not at the beach I was following this and talking about it with anyone who would listen.
This IS beautiful!
Now if we can just get Prentice punted here the same way!
I just moved to Aus, one of the many displaced albertans as a result of Red Ed’s game change.
It was interesting to watch Rudd’s moves. With the exception of climate change, they have mirrored Ed’s almost every step of the way. I can only hope that Mr. Stelmach receives the same unceremonious outing that Mr. Rudd did.
The new supertax has been sold almost verbatim the way Ed demanded that Albertans get “their fair share”. It was deja vu all over again.
I have heard that Mr. Rudd is a good man, caught in an ugly game. I do believe that politics is an ugly game. I just don’t know if there are any good men (or women) in it.
One progressive down many more to go. This is getting better all the time. Lets review. Rudd is gone Al gore is in hiding and Mr “hay buddy do you have a light” has been shown to be a complete marooon. I believe I will light a fire and celebrate by releasing some carbon into the air.
Good on ya R.Ed. I’ve been trying to emigrate there for 4 years. Alas money and sponsorship is the stopper.
As for Rudd, he was your typical progressive. His replacement Gillard is way more scary. And will want to do an Obama on Aus. Interesting times indeed.
But I think his replacement is going to push these issues again – taking bets on how long she will last
And, stone the crows, I hope she’s as successful as Kim Campbell.
Prentice is still hellbent on cap and trade. The CPC has big-government blue neo-liberals in the hen house.
A mixed blessing for us here in Oz, perhaps…
KRudd was a “transnational progressive” type, but utterly ineffective. A good thing (the ineffectiveness), methinks.
Our new Prime Ranga Joolia is more of an “old school” hard-core socialist. And rather more effective, I’ll bet.
OTOH, her “inauguration” speech threw quite a few bones to the “Howard battlers” (the socially conservative, upwardly mobile working and middle classes that repeatedly voted for John Howard). Maybe she realises that she will have to curb the “progressives” in the Labor Party to regain broad appeal. She did say that the ETS (Emmisions Trading Scheme/Cap’n’Trade) was on the back burner for the moment — a somewhat pragmatic position.
We shall see…
I suspect she’ll lose the next election, but even though I oppose (to my very core) her general political positions, she’s a far worthier politician to be PM than KRudd.
Charest must be very disappointed that Rudd is not there to help him(charest) achieve ‘cap and trade’ which he needs that money to help sustain Quebec’s lifestyle.
See Kevin Rudd sitting behind the man speaking
See Kevin Rudd pick wax out of his ear
See Kevin Rudd eat the wax
See Kevin Rudd’s career waxing
See Kevin Rudd’s ridiculous policies
See Kevin Rudd’s career waning
Time to mine that ear again Kevin … Maybe hit the nose while you’re at it …
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!
I love you blog!

True he is being exited for unpopularity – but it seems to me that his unpopularity as it relates to climate change is that there are lots of sheople in Oz who are angry that he couldn’t/didn’t implement his policy, in spite of several attempts. In their mind, he is the face of a party that couldn’t deliver on a major promise.
The battle for the truth on AGW is not won with his resignation.
I notice the Oz lefties operate like UK lefties and the Librano party of Canada. When a leader is so loathed by the electorate that defeat is certain in the next election you just install a new leader mid term – none of this giving the sheep a chance to vote for a PM like in the US.
The Aussies just bought some time, but the greed heads on the left will be back flogging green austeruty taxation. They WILL NOT leave this carbon fraud shake down alone. It’s a chance to tax the middle class into oblivion and make them totally reliant on state welfare.
AGW based taxing is far from gone. I’m convinced we will literally have to kick that idea out of the ruling oligarchy’s head.
