“Dinosaurs died from sudden temperature drop”
British researchers claim that a sudden plummeting in the sea temperature of 16F (9C) more than 137 million years ago was the first step towards their eventual road to extinction. […]
The drop in temperature is thought to have occurred because high levels of CO2 were in the atmosphere which caused global temperatures to rise and polar ice to melt – a phenomenon currently predicted for Earth.

Climate change wiped out most of the dinosaurs? I’m thinking that’s a good thing not a bad thing. I have enough problems with raccoons and possums without dinosaurs getting into my garbage.
Wow.
I can’t figure out the physics… A drop in temperature as a result of an increase in temperature.
Okay class: How does 1 + 1 = 3?
Now divide by 0, roll some dice, and make some shit up!
If you look at the history of the earth, and how much CO2 and oxygen concentrations have varied, it truely is amazing. Insects used to be *huge* due to high oxygen concentration.

“The drop in temperature is … because high levels of CO2 … caused global temperatures to rise and polar ice to melt – ”
Hey, I was was just surfing Fox Movies and that is exactly what Dennis Quaid said!
I love the scientist’s claim we are currently in a “greenhouse” climate. Give me a break. The earth is in a CO2 drought — life on earth is in peril if CO2 drops another couple hundred PPM.
Moar CO2 nao!
What a joke.
The temperature drop was so sudden that it only took 72 million years to finally catch up to the dinosaurs.
I personally saw the boundary layer in the diggings near Drumheller Alberta. A dark brown layer that is from 3 to 7 inches in thickness (where I was). You find dinosaur bones below this layer but none above it. This layer contains a higher concentration of iridium than normal Earth rock; a feature of asteroids.
Climate Scientology has been the biggest funding scam the environmental industry has come with yet and they will be hard pressed to invent the Next Great Scare (NGS). They won’t give it up easily. Besides all those trips to Bali and fawning interviews in the local media, where they are introduced as enviro-saints saving the planet from evil industry is just to ego-flattering – or should that be eco-flattering, for them to let go of.
Just think Andrew Weaver.
Glowbull Warming has been much more successful than Silent Spring, the Club of Rome, the Population Bomb etc as a fund raising vehicle by Greenpeace, The World Wildlife Fund et al who have literally raised tens of billions of dollars scaring the crap out of people and allowing governments to jump on their bandwagon.
just imagine how great the world would be if dinosaurs had used cap and trade.
just imagine how great the world would be if dinosaurs had used cap and trade.
the dinosaurs lived in alaska and the winter nights were just as long then..
yet they survived..
where was the ice??
in the forests of antarctic??
Seems to me that there was a lot of climate change happening over this spot over the last several million years.
Badlands
About 69 million years ago it was the bottom of a sea. Some time later it was below a sea of solid ice. Then the ice suddenly melted about 11,000 years ago and carved out the valley for us to see.
What is meant by “a sudden plummeting of the sea temperature” as opposed to “they died out gradually”? Well it has to be gradual, doesn’t it? After all, the dinos have to stick around in large numbers for another 72 million years after the so-called “plummeting” sea temperature.
So these bozos are saying that climate change killed the dinosaurs, but it took 72 million years to do it or more than half of the entire Cretaceous Age.
Not that it matters. There are so many idiotic things about this so-called scientific finding that it’s really not worth worrying about. They have just a little trouble explaining why, if this is such a catastrophic event, there’s no apparent change in the concentration and distribution dinosaur remnants up to the CT barrier, at which point they disappear utterly.
The underlying issue is that a host of anthropologists have been arguing against Alvarez’s catastrophic theory for decades. Even the discovery of Chicxulub didn’t shut them up.
Scientific theories are often held together by nebulous filament threads to other scientific theories that are equally suspect….any of which can break. It truly is amazing that wild theories are often created out of the slimmest of evidence. Science had better get its act together. As a result of the great global warming fraud, it has had its legs kicked out from under it and may not recover for a very long time.
“Climate Scientology” sums it all up. I love it!
Where is John Cross?
Global Warming causes hemorrhoids. Notably Gore, Suzuki, Mann, Jones, etc.
“Where is John Cross?”
Global Warming… The silent killer.
According to the Pangaea super continent timeline the poles had land on them and the oceans were nothing like today so how would this scenerio of sudden cooling of the oceans even have happened?
Scientologists could have got away with stuff before the internet, as we saw in the AGW scam, they can’t just throw this crap out there with only brain dead lefties nodding their empty heads.
Here’s a Youtube spoof on Michael Mann and his hockey stick. Mann is apparently planning to sue the creators of this spoof, titled: Hide the Decline.

Heh. Settlement science.
Climate change science is to science what F Troop was to Cavalry.
Good point Dave re Pangaea.
Heres a look at how the world might have looked back then. But, yet ocean currents like the Atlantic Gulf Stream would be just like today?
I don’t even see an Atlantic Ocean 65 million years ago.

Seems more likely a new theory that cold killed the dinosaurs is being floated because of PIGSFLITARDS (Previously Inconsistent Grant Swamp Funded Lies Imploded Truth Accidentally Revealed Derangement Syndrome).
Interesting link ward.
What I don’t understand then is; given we have fossils showing a tropical environment from pole to pole, would that mean the world didn’t have a tilt to it until around 65 mil years ago?
And perhaps the equator area was not habitable or hospitable to most life froms and that alone was a big divide?
Not to specifically question you, just throwing it out here in regards to the information presented at the link you gave.
DAMN YOU FRED FLINTSTONE!!!
Damn white people!
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned my clever photo caption.

what everybody missed so far
is that 135 million years ago the world was still FLAT
the Greeks only invented the round world a couple of thousands years ago:-)))
BTW: Kate, I had my hearing aids out, so I didn’t hear your caption:-))))
George Orwell would be so proud.

Yeah and a lot of uranium, berillium and carbon….that’s why dinosaur bones are generally black. A lot of recovered Dino bones come from immediately below the KT boundary.
ward
Yeah those “experts” overlooked that continental drift detail…..interesting…..Antarctica was forested as late as 50-60 million BCE. They also declare dinos as “cold blooded”…..a notion that was disproved many decades past. The main function of the bony plates on stegosauris’ back was heat regulation…a function of warm blooded critters.
The vast diversity of climates the dinos thrived in indicates they were warm blooded….a diversity witnessed by their long existance….climate change is a constant not an exception.
It is obvious that the KT boundary abruptly ended the dinos….the comet idea and mexican asteroid crater theory lacks credibility. The catastrophic effects of a magnetic reversal, igniting a global storm of Tunguska-like events (perhaps 14/sq mile)make more sense….with much objective evidence.
Two books…..”Not by fire but by ice” and Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary leaps” by Robert W. Felix.
Those Plymouth “experts” seem as informed as the bronze-age authors of Genesis…..with the Genesis authors having much more credibility.
So the temp drop was 137 million years ago and the dinos were finished 65 million years ago. That means it took them 72 million years do actually die off. The article also references the Atlantic Gulf stream. 137 million years ago there was no Atlantic Gulf stream as the continents were in a much different alignment. What an absolute load of crap…

The Oxfam site is very *interesting.* Oxfam has latched onto the G8 and G20 summits to try to influence leaders of the countries involved.
Take note of how Climate Change has morphed into a bloated cause linked to other leftist campaigns.

Yep, the Isthmus of Panama was formed about 60 million years but AGWers, like other religious fanatics, see the mark of the carbon devil everywhere (maybe CO2=666???).
Scientists believe the formation of the Isthmus of Panama is one of the most important geologic events in the last 60 million years. Even though only a small sliver of land relative to the sizes of continents, the Isthmus of Panama had an enormous impact on Earth’s climate and its environment. By shutting down the flow of water between the two oceans, the land bridge re-routed ocean currents in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Atlantic currents were forced northward, and eventually settled into a new current pattern that we call the Gulf Stream today. With warm Caribbean waters flowing toward the northeast Atlantic, the climate of northwestern Europe grew warmer. (Winters there would be as much as 10 °C colder without the transport of heat from the Gulf Stream.) The Atlantic, no longer mingling with the Pacific, grew saltier. Each of these changes helped establish the global ocean circulation pattern in place today. In short, the Isthmus of Panama directly and indirectly influenced ocean and atmospheric circulation patterns, which regulated patterns of rainfall, which in turn sculpted landscapes.
Evidence also suggests that the creation of this land mass and the subsequent, warm wet weather over northern Europe resulted in the formation of an Arctic ice cap and contributed to the current ice age.
Too bad the new world cannot re-engineer the mixing of the Atlantic and Pacific. Then the freezing Brits would have real worries to contend with and might stop creating science fiction.
These aren’t Scientists. These are Socialists with a piece of paper given to them from another Socialist.
Kate, maybe they were using the wrong currency???
It’s obvious they came to the same “intelligent” conclusion of our Goracle to buy their way out, but maybe the exchange rate sucked?
It has become my badge of honour that I was blacklisted by this profession. But I have to admit, I never thought they were anywhere near this stupid.
I’m with you Kate. Too many so-called experts ‘assume’ what happenned so many years ago.
(I’m a young-earther so I won’t say billions of years ago.)
Kate is that the only proof you have of mollusk markets? I’m not convinced,eh.
sasquatch at April 26, 2010 6:12 PM
…..Antarctica was forested as late as 50-60 million BCE.
sasquatch, slow down, what kind of sense does 50-60 million BCE, make?
When you go back that far, don’t use BCE.
While the fossil in the illustration may resemble a coin, it is in fact a primordial ancestor of a Tim Horton’s honey cruller, and as such, is proof positive that Svalbard was once Canadian territory, before we were robbed of it by the evil of plate tectonics.
Climatologists need to be watching for meteors.
They are the dinosaurs of our age. Those space rocks are coming for them. too!
LMAO
Mollusk currency is the key to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Development of currency among the mollusks and a capitalist economy resulted in the first millionaires who then had time to think about things without the need to filter-feed all day. These innovative mollusks funded research into the building of larger shells with many chambers which quickly became the domicile of choice. The building occurred on such a scale that calcium carbonate became in short supply. A mollusk genius, whose name has unfortunately been lost, had the brilliant idea of increasing the CO2 content of the atmosphere which would result in increased ocean carbonate.
This was done by trading with the dinosaurs and passing on mollusk technology. Tyrannosaur’s ruled the land and were very impressed by the vehicles proposed by this bright mollusk. Rather than having to chase prey, they could ride after it and the SUV design was a favorite among this species of reptile. Little did they know that the whole point of getting them to drive was to burn methane (present in massive quantities as methane hydrates underwater but needing to be transferred to land to be burnt). The tyrannosaur SUV was every rednecks wet dream as it made the Hummer H1 look like a toy car beside it. Tyrannosaur’s loved their SUV’s and drove everywhere with them and were able to chase after herds of triceratops until the triceratops dropped from exhaustion. A massive increase in the tyrannosaur population ensued and atmospheric CO2 levels rose dramatically. Iridium hood ornaments of large size and intricacy became the rage among tyrannosaurs.
In the mollusk world billionaires were dissatisfied with their fortunes and the firm of Goldshell-Sucks came up with the brilliant idea of subprime mortgages so that even the lowliest mollusk could have a mansion. This stimulated an even more massive building boom and shell prices rocketed upwards. Eventually almost all mollusc’s net worth was in their large and ornate shells and they had racked up huge amounts of debt. Income flowed in from the methane pipelines from the deep to the tyrannosaurs.
On the land things weren’t going well as the last triceratops herds were eaten. The price of all meat went up dramatically and tyrannosaurs were unable to afford methane to drive after their prey. This loss of income to the mollusks caused a collapse of their housing bubble and billions of mollusks foreclosed on their shells and were left to float about the ocean where they were quickly eaten by various fish. The implosion of the mollusk economy resulted in a closing of most of the pipelines from the methane-hydrate fields.
Things became so desperate in the tyrannosaur world that they actually listened to a psychotic prophet who taught that if they divested themselves of all possessions they would be saved. Massive piles of SUV’s were made and set alight to try to placate the angry gods. This was of no use and the cessation of mollusk building caused atmospheric CO2 levels to rise dramatically and the polar icecaps melted. This global warming caused massive snowstorms and blizzards and the starving tyrannosaurs froze to death.
The only sign of this out of control capitalist economy are the massive deposits of limestone around the world, high grade iron ore deposits and the Iridium layer from from the SUV hood ornaments that had vaporized in the intense heat. Proposing that an asteroid could have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs is preposterous and capitalism is a far more likely explanation, especially when one has incontrovertible evidence like that mollusk coin.
Wow, I’m sensing a greater depth of desperation to find a new plausible lie than ever before. They know their drowning; screaming for a life preserver – anything – even a floating log will do.
I have examined the primordial soup of early tv and with confidence I am now able to inform your readers that the dinosaurs were actually worked to death by an early hominid(fredee loutus booricus).
Eureka!
There IS a place for the progressives and eco warriors to live without the rest of us just like they want, carbon free, no scary weather systems, sunshine non-stop and no borders as far as I know.
Unique views too, no one else will have that.
It’s the MOON!
Seriously, check out this chart.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Moon_Comp_Graph.png
Carbon is but a trace element and with 50% oxygen in the soil they can figure a way to suck it out and live long and prosper or at least let the rest of us live in peace until that burning ball in our sky decides to go poof.
(See? We can send them to the moon, anything’s possible! ;~) )
“I love the scientist’s claim we are currently in a “greenhouse” climate.”
The planet is also not a greenhouse. You know, that thing about the earth turning, cloud cover changing, fluid dynamics, etc.
“Scientists” dumbing-down experiments to this level of understanding (while advocating huge global change based on it) deserve to have their qualifications yanked for not emphasizing the intricacies.
It’s as if they got to statics but never moved on to dynamics.
So the asteriod/comet theory is out the window now? Understandable…after all, *human beings* can’t be blamed for asteroids or comets slamming into the easrth, leaving their distinctive iridum signature right at the K-T boundary.
Or CAN we?…get on it Greentards 😉
