I agree with Bruce Wayne Riley and his wife. This video brings a tear to my eye every time I see it too. The awesome power of that horse is overwhelming to the senses. Here was my take on Big Brown last year and the death of Jim McKay who reported on the Munich Massacre.
When you posted this video, I thought it would be a spoof. I thought Obama or Harper or Brown would stop the race, disqualify Secretariat, and allow the slower horses to win.
If you want to see the tragedy of socialism in horse racing, watch the movie Phar Lap. Handicapping was the only thing that made him lose a race. Hatred of success was what killed him.

Hard to believe the big horse has been gone 20 years. He was truly amazing. The best race horse ever. That world record at Belmont still stands today, some 36 years later.
I still remember vividly the actual race. Most, including me, did not really understand at the time just what an amazing feat he accomplished there. His legend grows with time – as it should.

Like any Master of a talent, the Horse made it look easy. I think we cry because we know that that horse gave his all to win.

I seem to recall his jockey was an acadian from New Brunswick. Turcotte or something. I heard the jockey say that Secretariat was a lazy a$$ horse that needed to be whipped to go for a drink of water. Also when he died didn’t they say that Secretariat heart was almost twice as big as normal, which would explain his speed.
What’s most impressive is that the Belmont Stakes is 12 furlongs (1.5 miles), an extremely long race for thoroughbreds. This made Secretariat’s win even more remarkable. The horse was an amazing athlete.
Some of us had forgotten how beautiful this horse, this race was; we need these little reminders once in a while. Thanks Kate!
I still remember watching that incredible Belmont run by Secretariat!
Amazing horse. We have a photo of this finish hanging in our home. Sham was an amazing horse as well and had he been a year older or younger and had not had to race in Secretariats shadow he may have been a triple crown winner too.
Secretariat has a historical marker along highway 30 in Virginia.
He hits the finish 25 lengths in front!
