More whacky researchers are suggesting that the big glowing ball of fire in the sky somehow affects the earth. (Technical note for those following along at home: when it’s the sun, it’s “weather”, when it’s CO2, it’s “climate”)…
A new study in the journal Science by a team of international of researchers led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research have found that the sunspot cycle has a big effect on the earth’s weather. The puzzle has been how fluctuations in the sun’s energy of about 0.1 percent over the course of the 11-year sunspot cycle could affect the weather?
I know, it’s just crazy enough to be true.
In other words, 0.1 percent of a really gigantic, humungous number is, you guessed it, a really big number.
For those wondering how the study bears on global warming, Gerald Meehl, lead author on the study, says that it doesn’t – at least not directly….
Talk about trying to keep a lie going.
We must immediately stop cutting down trees to produce newsprint. Any reporter on the Climate Change file will tell you how obvious and necessary this is. We may have only four months…

Gee since the earth’s natural state would be a ball of ice hurling through space without the sun and all energy used in the climate system starts at the sun it kinda makes sense that solar fluxuations may affect the climate.
The earth is constantly trying to revert to its natural state of a frozen ball, this happens when you have an atmospheric boundary layer with the coldness of space and a diurnal oscillation due to planetary rotation.
The sun provides enough forcing to overcome this perpetual drain of energy, GHGs help retain heat during the oscillations ( as well as the stored thermal energy in solids and liquids ) and allows the earth to support all surface and near surface life, so of course any variation in orbit(Milankovitch Cycles) and in solar output will be seen in the climate.
So for the temperature of the earth to vary several degrees kelvin over any time period (1-1,000,000+ years) is to be expected when the primary source of energy for the climate has variation.

Conversely, 200% of an incredibly small number (CO2 concentration) is, you guessed it, a really small number.

The US Chamber of Commerce has suggested that there be a trial along the lines of the Scopes Monkey Trial for AGW. Finally! However, the venue will have to be carefully considered as many jurisdictions are adjudicated by liberal hacks who will tow the party line.

Many others have probably said this more eloquently than I have, but when you think about it, there are daily fluctuations in temperature (warmer in day, cooler at night), weekly fluctuations, monthly fluctuations, and yearly fluctuations (caused of course on the tilt of the earth’s axis).
I don’t understand how some of the climate change folk are unwilling to accept that there are broader fluctuations and trends beyond that, and then using that as the primary premise, determining what impact man may or may not have upon those trends.
Rather, it seems as if they randomly pick two data points from different periods of time (from poorly stationed sensors, as per “Watts up with that”), and use that to validate their circular arguments. QED I guess.

I have mentioned this before but I would strongly recommend you read Australian geologist Ian Plimer’s book Heaven and Earth. The complexity of our climate is astounding and he discusses earth’s climate history and all the elements that impact it.
The climate has so many variables that no model, which are by their nature designed to show a predicted result, could accurately show what will happen 3 days from now let alone 50 years out. They try to make a chaotic system into a linear one.
So many of the vital parts of this puzzle are not even discussed let alone part of the IPCC’s models of which none predicted the cooling since 1998.
Not Covered in IPCC models:
*solar influence – sunspots, 11, 22, 30, 1,500 year etc. cycles, orbit of earth
*volcanoes – release of areosols, dust, 85% of eruptions take place under the ocean or under ice sheets in Iceland, Canada, Greenland releasing massive heat and CO2
*weather stations – urban heat sinks not considered with huge upward bias in actual temps. 90% don’t meet US Weather standards. Satellites and ocean sensors show no increase in global temperature.
*wobbles – axis tilt as solar system moves through the universe over millions of years linking to glaciation.
*El Nino, La Nina
*ocean currents, Gulf Stream, water column cycles
*sea levels – constant movement up and down, 130m drop in ice age, lands still rising from weight of ice, oceans deepening from extra weight of water, both cause earthquakes.
*CO2 is just a trace gas though vital to our very survival and has been many times higher even in ice ages, water vapour is key GHG
*plate tectonics – mid ocean ridges 64k long
