Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

considering the only documented slaves in the modern world are in Africa , Arab countries and “sex slaves ” in the far east and europe. It would be stretch to say Walmart imported any of that.
I must say I am quite shocked when I find made in Canada stamped on anything in any store.
I noticed we can make salmon bbq boards wrapped in plastic for 8 bucks , or you can get a fence board for 2.50 and make yourself about 6 of them without the wrap.
If hewers of wood, drawers of water and picking bakeapples while on pougy is what we do well then lets do it. right alex.
Well ET I rarely shop at Canadian Tire for similar reasons and I haven’t flown on a commercial airliner for years.
However I regularly shop Home Depot and quite enjoy their self serve check out. It has more to do with the visibility of the cashier than the length of the queue. When I’m not sure which queue I am in and people are cutting in in front of me because they can’t tell which queue they are in I get frustrated and have been known to leave my would be purchase in the middle of the aisle and walk out.
cal2: you need to come up for air. But not too fast, you might get the “benz”… It is not your fault, you are ignorant, like most others who have spent most of this life with their heads up their ass.
A recent study also proved that there has to be slave labor in Wal-Mart. The researchers proved this by going overseas into Bangladesh and seeing just how much it costs to make a denim shirt, labor and materials included. The total cost to make the shirt turned out to be $3.72. Wal-Mart then sells this shirt for $11.67. Wal-Mart then makes a profit of $8.42, which is a 260% mark up of the actual cost to make the shirt. This research proves two things: It proves that there is slave labor in Wal-Mart due to the fact that the shirt can be made for only $3.72 including labor (Denim). It also proves that if Wal-Mart paid just a measly 20 more cents to make the garment, the workers could go just above the misery line and maybe even reach the poverty line.
These same people that support Chinese goods would they buy a product made in Cuba (if possible) too?
If they had a choice of buying oil from Iran would they?
Our troops fight for freedom and you support people who sell their enemies weapons. I hope those cheap socks are worth it.
Right of centre your arguement is full of s*it… I defy you to walk into any high end clothes store and find me an item that is not marked up as high. Sometimes even higher.
Might I also remind you that those poor people who are being “exploited” by companies are protected by their own country’s labour laws… so if you have a beef with the cost of production in Bangledesh I suggest you write a letter to the high commision and voice your complaint there, and not lay it in Wal-Mart, or any other corporations, lap.
As for China and Cuba, those countries both have governments that set the wages of their workers, and you can bet that someone is making a lot of money when a company sets up shop there.
All you self righteous leftoids should write some letters to the COUNTY that these workers are in and complain to them… jeez, morons.
the first time i saw a motorized push cart move 100 pushcarts, then i was sold on wallyworld.
Re: Walmart lineups. Welcome to Canada, eh. Having lived down south for over six years, I can tell you that the lineups are more of a canuck phenomena, at least in most stores I’ve been to in Atlantic Canada. I regularly have seen lineups so long you can’t get down the grocery aisles, but there are always several “spare” checkouts.
As far as the slave labour crap, have a look at most of the stuff in your home and see how much is made off shore, including those greenie lights.
Dwayne-
Do little rearch first before you open your yap. It is showing you have no idea what you are talking about.
Walmart buys from companies that violate their countries labour laws. They know better and they do it anyway.
Nike, ATT, Hugo Boss and other multinational corporations will gladly give you the name and address of any supplier. Walmart will not do this, gee I wonder why. it is not to protect their low cost secret supplier from competitors they have no competitors their volume is so huge they are on a different scale. It is only to hide the truth.
This is not a left or right thing it is human right issue.
Now run along and buy those cheap socks you commie supporter
“Right of centre your arguement is full of s*it… I defy you to walk into any high end clothes store and find me an item that is not marked up as high. Sometimes even higher”-Dwayne
Hey idiot I have no problem with mark up and a high one is ok with me. I could go into a high end store and the mark up would be just as high but the product is 10 times the price giving more wage to the worker and the cost of the higher end material.
If you thought the problem was the mark up you missed the mark completly.

can you tell me when I have time to come up for air? or have my h up my a$$
you really dont know who you are speaking to.
I have alot of relatives left in the Atlantic provinces , maritime provinces or whatever ,that have perfected the art of government handouts.
so Frank , come up with a better resume.
I love it. Walmart sells the exact same goods that are available at every single large retailer in the world, yet because they are successful, there has to be something underhanded about them.
Slave labour. Enforced cult mentality. And, now according to Right of Centre, support for terrorists. Nutbars, every one of them.
WDS is almost as bad as BDS.
Walmart has really gone down in quality with quantity of goods. They used to have an excellent video selection with a wide array of electronics.
That has disappered in the last 2 years.
It more & more seems like one of those anything for a buck places. Plus the crowds, lack of service & lineups from Hell. Make it a stressful place to shop.
The lineups depend on the store. One WM where I live has had two checkouts going on a Mon. morning. The other has a four till snake line 12 items or less. In Denver there must have been 20 empty staffed lines waiting to take my money. That was the only time I have been in a Super Wal-Mart and I could have used a golf cart to get through it.
The whole Wal*Mart thing has been beaten to death. It’s really not a complex matter. If you like the store and have no problem with how it conducts its business …. then by all means, shop there. On the other hand, if you dislike the corporation for whatever reason, real or imagined, then it’s quite a simple matter to avoid the store. However …. keep in mind that a great many other shoppers prefer Wal*Mart so if you choose not to shop there, please STFU.
Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with Wal*Mart but I shop there infrequently because of the large crowds. As Yogi Berra was credited with saying when asked about a certain restaurant … “Nobody goes there. It’s too crowded.”
cal2: your resume and 10 cents will not get you a ride on the city bus. Nor would mine. However, I am using mine to make the lives of the less fortunate better. You would be well advised to consider the same. Have you even taken a ride on a city bus? … I didn’t think so…
cal2: go phuk yourself… and shove your resume up your ass along with your dildo you arrogant peece of shite… do you know who I am ???
cal2: What is your name. Your First Name and Last will do. What does cal2 stand for? You coward! What are you hiding, a criminal record, are you a child pornographer, or some kind of internet pedophile???
cal2 appears to be gone. Is there any other anonymous commentors who want to step on the carpet? Bring it on.
I read somewhere that next to the United States, Walmart is China’s largest trading partner.
Go to fairwhistleblowers.ca and read the 5 myths about China. It cost Brian McAdam his health and well being to bring to light this story of truth.
I don’t shop at Walmart but as I understand it, many or at least a good percentage of the employees are either disabled or under-employable (age, black, gay) are they not? It seems to me that they wouldn’t be working much elsewhere otherwise.
As far a slave labor in China – What? Better some must think they subsist of vegetables that fall out of carts on the roadside I guess. The “slave labor” issue in China is simply a labor standards issue within a country with far greater concerns than low income, long hours. Any one of the factory workers mindlessly pumping out toys for Walmart can get up from their work station, jump on a train, and go back to their parents fields. They are not chained in dark rooms and flogged for insubordination.
Excuse the bait, I’m hunting for “real” haven’t seen that lefty troll around for awhile, getting boring the last few days without a good “real” slap down. Don’t worry, he/ it won’t read this far he he he……
Geez, Knight… for a second there, I thought you were channelling Edward Teach.
May I, with all due respect, sincerely and respectfully, apologise for expressing my comments on this blog with respect to slave labour? Please forgive me if I have offended you, it was not my intent to offend, I only wished to share my thoughts on slave labour and it’s affect on mankind. Sincerely and respectfully, Frank.

“respectfully, apologise for expressing my comments on this blog with respect to slave labour”
Apology accepted.
Actually you are in good company with millions of others who have no idea about the real world much less the third world.
That’s why we are here, to help you get it strait. It’s the little people that redeem themselves who give the rest of us hope that our tax dollars and social assistance is not a complete waste. The last thing we need is a multitude of third world domestic labor polishing our cars and cleaning our homes, it simply spins out of control eventually, and everyone finds themselves living in a virtual India.
That’s when the reality of “slave labor” hits home.
Walmart doesn’t have the products I need.
So I don’t go there.
I shop at Walmart when I need gas also. There’s Walmart gas but my preference is the adjacent Shell station. In any event. the Walmart map was terrifying. Target’s was easier to conceptualize. While Walmart does cause the closure of local business, it also provides jobs with a level of pay the local outfits can’t support. There’s a blip on the map about 300 miles east of here that now has a Walmart distribution center. The [once] major employer in town can’t compete against Walmart because while they pay less, the hours are consistent. Good for them, I say. Plus, when buying gifts for those unending and relentless charity drives at Christmas, one goes in with 100 bucks and comes out with bags and bags and bags of kids’ stuff. Unbelievable. That has to be a boon for our working poor and middle class. I have shopped at Target for years and years. The luster is fading for me as I move outside their ‘target’ demographic but it is still a very fun place to shop.
