  1. This project has been on the drawing board for over 30 years. They have announced it now in response to the independence vote that’s coming in Quebec – something we in the west should strongly support- and the increasing need for maintenance on the existing facilities, which are reaching the end of life.
As for what it means in terms of the west’s nuclear ambitions the answer is nothing – we have missed the boat on this and have nothing left except to supply uranium and buy reactors from Americans ( Or Ontario if we don’t mind, the cost being twice what it should be]
As for what it means to Western taxpayers; well, the benefits go to Quebec, Newfoundland, and the northeast US states that will buy the power, but the cost will be spread across Canadian tax payers- mostly, these days, us.

  2. Anything Churchhill falls related has a long history of corruption, massive cost and timeline over runs. This will be an epic mess, all Saskatchewan has to do is complete their projects and theyll be just fine.

    1. Wasn’t there an ice storm a couple of decades ago that took down a goodly number of transmission towers? Might be handy to have your electrical generation near to the consumer

  3. I guess the good part is it that I will likely not be around to see it completed. Based on recent projects the 70 billion figure ballooning to 140 billion would be a spectacular success and my guess is 420 billion. There will be so many happy , wealthy liberals. Bonus, by 2040 there will be enough power produced to service the immigration of the next 6 to 7 years -maybe longer if they can do a better job of eliminating the old stock. No cynicisms here.
