To you progressive true-green believers still worshipping at the altar of Kyoto – how’s that working for you?
Elizabeth May has just conceded she no more believes in “catastrophic global warming” than she does the tooth fairy. Like Stephane Dion and Al Gore and so many others, when a politician signals that their personal political fortunes trump “saving the planet”, I don’t think you have to worry too much about the planet.
No wonder Cherniak is closing shop to pursue other elvin opportunities. The fairy tale was wearing thin even for him.

Kyoto is a joke. It’s a tool for extreme left-wing movements (such as communists) and developing countries to destroy capitalism and the West. They have tried it before, through ideology (i.e., communism), and failed, so they’re trying it again by scaring people into submission with global-warming lies (with Al Gore, the fraud, being one of their main mouthpieces). In fact, Kyoto is even being pushed by Osama bin Laden.
As for Cherniak:
All malice and kidding aside, Jason has certainly contributed to the blogosphere — and the political process. But I also think that he’s done himself a lot of harm over time if a career in politics is what he’s after. He could become a journalist, but his writing isn’t good enough for that (sorry, Jason, I call a spade a spade).
I only need to think of his attacks on the NDP (and his slandering of NDP candidates) to know that he’ll never make it into elected office — and this is just one specific type of mistake he’s made (over and over again).
As a result, I only see two career options for him: (a) remain a lawyer; or (b) become the backroom political hack (emphasis on hack) that Jason himself lists as an option — or even both.

Well, the TRUTH is, Jeff, that Article 27 of the Kyoto Protocol reads as follows:
1. At any time after three years from the date on which this Protocol has entered into force for a Party, that Party may withdraw from this Protocol by giving written notification to the Depositary.
2. Any such withdrawal shall take effect upon expiry of one year from the date of receipt by the Depositary of the notification of withdrawal, or on such later date as may be specified in the notification of withdrawal.
3. Any Party that withdraws from the Convention shall be considered as also having withdrawn from this Protocol.
By my calculations, countries can begin to withdraw in February 2008.
Someone needs to brush up on his reading and knowledge of international treaties…all invariably contain an “opt-out” clause.

The gun lobby has deep pockets? Care to justify that statements with some facts? Considering that Para-Ordnance is the only firearm making company in Canada that even bothers with the Canadian civilian market, I find it hard to believe they are funding some Uber-scheme to overthrow the righteous. The CSSA and NFA are funded from the pockets of the average person who does not want their rights and property confiscated. The gun owners here in Canada are learning to use the internet to get their message across and making it clear that we vote on that issue. Met an experienced geologist on my last trip to Asia and that what his point exactly.
He explained that the heavy metals etc. from burning coal are far worse to the health of the planet than the greenhouse gases produced, and China is cranking out coal-fired electricity plants at a furious rate.
Very glad the Conservatives have axed Kyoto.

His statement that the Afghanistan defense role of the Cdn military will end in 2009 – upstages the Manley Committee. His reaffirmation of Kyoto is a tactic to define the Liberals as The Kyoto Party (ignoring their decade long era of doing nothing). And, his chatter about ‘poverty’, Court Challenges, etc, was only an attempt to rhetorically define the Liberals as The Socialist Party – ignoring their inactions in poverty, their high taxation, and their socialist pandering identity politics.
Ignatieff looked as if he had permanently swallowed a lemon; I’ll bet that his ideas are closer to Harper’s than Dion’s – Ignatieff eventually gave up ‘rising in applause of His Leader (Dion) and sat there glumly.
The Liberals won’t risk an election. I’m speculating, but I wonder if Dion’s caucus warned him that many current Liberal MPs would simply refuse to run again, if an election were held now.
So – we’ve got an incredible PM, Stephen Harper, and we are moving, in a ‘bricolage’ or step by step manner, towards a more robust Canada.

Read quite a few of the comments at Turner’s blog and am always amazed at the blind fools who write in his blog. They always attack the personality of Harper and decry the tremendous damage he is doing to Canada criticizing his policies yet have zero policies of their own. You hear them cry “Give us back our Canada!” which is what, the empty promises of the Liberals, the corruption of Adscam, no tangible achievements just the Liberals in power doing what they always do, nothing except reward their fellow travellers.
This is their PROVEN track record over their history, it never changes. Liberal care nothing for Canada yet always wrap themselves in the flag beating their chicken chests claiming to speak for all Canadians. Well they don’t speak for this one.

Interestingly enough we can be thankful the Libranos (always wanting an edge for an undesirable candidate) adopted federally at the leadership convention the whacky proportional balloting system that the Ontario liberals used to get that dud McSlimy into the leaders seat..seems this also produced Dion from only a 17% first choice ballot.

It is great political sport to watch Dijon hammer and stammer as to why he won’t force an election at this time. The last thing the Fibs want is to hand the CPC a majority and they know that they run a very real risk of doing just that if they bring down the government now. International law? This dogma (the AGW law?), has yet to be tested in a court of law – as Gore’s law – ‘the inconvenient truth,’ has been and will continue to be.
The idea of CO2/AGW is environmental obfuscation and propoganda only to serve the socialist objective of world-wide wealth redistribution through Kyoto. Harper is on the right and rational track with the humanitarian and environmentally sound clean air act. Which was stated again in the throne speech.

An interesting part of the response to the UK judges ruling was that provided to the teachers. The government instructions under the title “The climate change film pack – Guidance for teaching staff” were for three different classroom situations – science, geography and citizenship. The problem I have is it should be taught in the science curriculum first and that should be a prerequisite for students learning about it or discussing it any other classroom. Without this approach you have what is happening in the world today, namely a discussion in ignorance.
