Let’s play “Spot the Scientist” … if you can!
Warning: Scary Music
And, in other news …
It takes an abject failure, or charlatan, to be at the center of a hoax not once but twice:
Did NASA scientist James Hansen, the global warming alarmist in chief, once believe we were headed for . . . an ice age? An old Washington Post story indicates he did.
On July 9, 1971, the Post published a story headlined “U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming.” It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man’s use of fossil fuels.
The Post reported that Rasool, writing in Science, argued that in “the next 50 years” fine dust that humans discharge into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel will screen out so much of the sun’s rays that the Earth’s average temperature could fall by six degrees.
Sustained emissions over five to 10 years, Rasool claimed, “could be sufficient to trigger an ice age.”
Aiding Rasool’s research, the Post reported, was a “computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen,” who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time.
When it comes to Hansen, following the money may explain a few things.
Yet More:
Let’s cheer for the Canadian …
Already topping the international agenda, the fight against global warming and activists such as Al Gore could take home this year’s Nobel Peace Prize when it is announced on Friday, observers say.
Gore, a former US vice-president, and another climate change campaigner, Canadian Inuit Sheila Watt-Cloutier, are believed to be among the favorites as the Nobel committee hunkers down to select a winner among the 181 candidates nominated for this year’s award.
Some Sense from an AGW Believer:
All eyes are on Greenland’s melting glaciers as alarm about global warming spreads. This year, delegations of U.S. and European politicians have made pilgrimages to the fastest-moving glacier at Ilulissat, where they declare that they see climate change unfolding before their eyes.
Curiously, something that’s rarely mentioned is that temperatures in Greenland were higher in 1941 than they are today. Or that melt rates around Ilulissat were faster in the early part of the past century, according to a new study. And while the delegations first fly into Kangerlussuaq, about 100 miles to the south, they all change planes to go straight to Ilulissat — perhaps because the Kangerlussuaq glacier is inconveniently growing.
Speaking of Ice … Southern Ice Breaks Record for “Growing“:
Just as we set a new record in the northern hemisphere for minimum sea ice area in September, the southern hemisphere has officially set a new record for maximum sea ice area. According to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Polar Research Group the southern hemisphere sea ice area reached 16.17 million square kilometers, narrowly breaking the old record of 16.03 million square kilometers. The record data goes back to 1979.

Earth’s rotating the wrong way in the opening graphic.
No,no Beilisarius. Didn’t you know that the Goracle and the IPCC board had reversed the earth’s rotation in an attempt to slow down climate change/AGW? I mean, they figure they can fool Mother Nature, why not the universe? Besides, they figured why should the Aussies have all the fun with the toilets flushing the other way? 🙂
All copies of the Nazi propaganda flick, “The Eternal Jew” should have been destroyed. Instead it must have become ‘required viewing’ for a generation of new propagandists (a.k.a. journalists and movie stars). This garbage uses all the same techniques to dupe a new generation.
I’m the last guy to defend Hansen, but in this case I believe all he did was write some generic code that was used by Rasool in his model.
It says nothing about what Hansen believes or didn’t believe at the time.
Wow, I knew that the Goracle was all-knowing, but all-powerful too?
The best explanation I have read re GW is,
MOTHER NATURE HAVING A HOT FLASH.
We have over six and half billion people on the planet now. I question whether many of them actually qualify as humans if you judge them by their behavior. Nevertheless, we are too many as is so if we have a die off, that may be a good thing.
If that thought ruffles your sensibilities, sue me.
What the folks in that clip are bleating about is nothing more than evolution. I would bet most of them are anti creationists anyway so what’s the big deal.
Things are changing … they always do. Our job is to adapt or die. And that is exactly what one of the last fat bleaters said. Some of us will adapt but in Bonga Conga, Oomba Bibi and the boys may not.
No one said life is fair, but the areas that will survive evolution best, are the places where freedom, science, technology and capitalism prevail along with the peaceful civilization developed by white people.
I guess when things aren’t fair you can work hard to make them more fair for you. That is what we in the West and did but we cannot do for others. They need to do it for themselves. That is what the Left keeps shouting about regarding Afghanistan isn’t it?
Besides, climate change isn’t that big a deal. Consider the change in climate we experience every year between January and July in Canada and the USA also there is a bit a swing in Europe each year as I understand it, Russia too … so like … grow up Lefties … isn’t this more about weather than climate. Climate is what you want, weather is what you get.
Here is a helpful tip to help you with this evolutionary cycle. … Buy shorts for the summer and a parka for the winter. It’s not a perfect world.
Mornin’ y’all.
Hansen et al, masters of Mythinformation.
did you know that all forms of life on this planet will cease to existwhen the sun finally burns out? our vast knowledge of science will prevent that. duh how many millions of years will we have to wait? oh, none we only live to a max of 78 now. bummer.
To post such drivel makes it obvious that Kate has left a bigger moron in running this site than even Kate herself.
Tip, if you’re going to post such drivel at least be familiar with the source document.
Yes albatros,
When you call us morons we consider the the source.
Alb: Coming from you I consider it a compliment. Now I must spank you though … nix the name calling or you’ll be deleted.
John West @ 12.16pm said “We have over six and half billion people on the planet now. I question whether many of them actually qualify as humans…we are too many as is so if we have a die off, that may be a good thing.”
I have a question, too. Civility, however, constrains me.
Contemptible, Sir, quite contemptible.
jmorrison – we live to an AVERAGE of 78 (roughly). The maximum is about 120.
Tenebris,
Apparently, you have a false perception of the nobility of the human race.
You are sentimental fool. Too much Sesame street and Disney perhaps.
The civility that prevents you from speaking your mind fully tells me Prozac may be on your menu.
I am pleased to be contemptible to you.
Nobel must be spinning in his grave. The “Peace” prize has been completely politicized ever since it was given to Arafat. At least, when they gave it to him, it could be pretended that he helped to bring about peace between Arabs and Jews.
Lately, none of the recipients have had anything to do with promoting the cause of peace. The prize has been going to noisy political activists who have contributed absolutely nothing to “peace on earth”. Meaningless.
My guess is that this year, to get maximum political mileage, it will be split betweem Watt-Cloutier and Gore. (Something for obese white politicians and something for aboriginals.)
You know that the Alarmists are alarmists when;

Alby,
I have a rather simple question, in keeping with your demonstrated intellect. It has not gotten warmer since 1998 and is a little cooler in fact. Even the most strident of the AGW crowd do not dispute this. CO2 emmissions and atmospheric concentration have increased relentlessly through this period, please explain.
“Keep in mind, even though this is indeed a record, it is not nearly as significant as the minimum record which was just set in the northern hemisphere, in which the sea ice extent was 23% less than the previous record set back in 2005.”
There you have it,folks. An area smaller than Texas in relation to the entire Northern icecap melted 2 years ago, yet the whole world sea level is gonna rise 22 feet! Cripes. There ain’t enough water even in the Goracle’s sponge-for-brains and his follwers to accomplish that. Funny. Summer weather does the same thing to the ice in my 7/7.
And please folks…let alby play by himself. He is much better at that.
I have ice in my drink and it is nearly full. Will my drink overflow when the ice melts? Why will melting Arctic ice cause sea levels to rise?
Why does shrinking Arctic ice make the news but growing Antarctic ice get page 10 treatment?
The world may be a little warmer, but AGW as it is presented is still a hoax.
We are now entering la Nina. This will bring a cooling and wetter climate. Freeze up in the Artic started 6 days earlier than in 2005. Will this give us an increase in minimum sea ice coveraqe? I don’t know but it will be interesting to see. Snow is already building in the mountains of B.C. some of which never lost last years snow.
They have already explained the new minimum as being the results of the ice being blown out to sea by a change in wind currents. Besides, all that ice would have melted, cooling as it went. Those who predicted global cooling were just ahead of their time.
Instead of preparing for global warming we should be preparing for both cooling and warming. That way we are ready for whatever ends up happening.
Looks to me like (insert Diety of choice here) is
simply culling the herd.
Saw this crap 50 years ago. Overpopulaton was the big deal then. UN gave transistor radios to any Indian or Pakistani that would have a vasectomy. In the 70’s it was global cooling and my kids would come home from school scared witless at what they were being taught.
Plus ca meme, plus ca meme chose.
During one part of the really scary music they showed a nuclear power plant. I thought that was clean energy.
Belisaruis, well spotted. But that’s climate change causing the sun to rise in the West.
Of course, no scientists were involved with this proaganda piece.
Justinian
“It has not gotten warmer since 1998 and is a little cooler in fact.”
Quite simply, you’re wrong. Global temperatures have not decreased. As much as Ball likes to keep repeating this it’s not happening.
“RicardoVerde at October 7, 2007 5:14 PM”
A little tid bit of trivia for you Richard. It’s Antarctica, it’s winter.
When scientists look at ice caps, they don’t look at the increase of winter ice, they look at the amount of ice that melts in the summer.
truthsayer] at October 7, 2007 5:43 PM
They have already explained??? They???
“They have already explained the new minimum as being the results of the ice being blown out to sea by a change in wind currents. Besides, all that ice would have melted, cooling as it went.”
WHAT?
Alby, what is the warmest year on record? And please do indicate you source.
Alb: the they is NASA, in a big release plastered all over google today. Please do some checking before you step into a trap.
Alby:
Thanks for correcting me. I was wondering about that growing ice data. If scientists didn’t publish that then who did? Did they know they weren’t supposed to look?
You have to admit though, that there has been no upward trend in temps since 1998. Doesn’t detract from AGW arguments but doesn’t support them either.

Oh now I wouldn’t go flattering myself if I were you, it wasn’t meant to be anything closely resembling a compliment directed at either you or Kate. If either of you were actually capable of putting some thought into what you posted and maybe even researched what you copied from other sites a bit, perhaps we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Go ahead and delete me if you like but it won’t change the reality. Lots of rednecks here have called me a moron on this site before, but that’s ok I’m pretty thick skinned. I Just consider the type of person on the other end of the conversation. It seems they get a bit incensed when like compliments are returned though.

Haha! That’s the music from Requiem for a Dream, a movie about meth-heads. Fitting…
The more leftist push the global warming/climate change propaganda, the better the future looks for rational thinking Conservatives everywhere.
It’s just disappointing that the President of the Czech Republic is the only world leader willing to approach the issue with sanity…

Well that would be 2005 as reported by GISS
If some if some bizarre Church sect went around telling telling everyone to live without technology, industry or consumption or God would punish the entire planet, leftists would probably not stand for it.
Do leftists really think humans are more powerful than nature? Why can’t they all just go live with the Amish???
@John West, 1.44pm
“Apparently, you have a false perception of the nobility of the human race.”
Nope. Totally depraved, each and every one of us.
“You are sentimental fool. Too much Sesame street and Disney perhaps.”
Sorry, I sin in the other direction, and haven’t had a TV for decades.
“The civility that prevents you from speaking your mind fully tells me Prozac may be on your menu.”
Civility is a cop-out for not caring enough about you to actually discuss the issue. I plead forgiveness and forthwith address your point below.
“I am pleased to be contemptible to you.”
You are pleased, but also deluded. To the point: If you think we have too many people on this planet, and that we need a die off…OK – let me grant you this, for the sake of argument. Who then decides? In your arrogant egotism, you pretend to “qualify as human”. Some might disagree. You arrogate to yourself the position of God. I submit you lack the attributes. Should you ever find yourself with the power, I rather suspect hell on earth would result, not heaven.
Well that would be 2005 as reported by GISS
Posted by: albatros39a at October 7, 2007 7:37 PM
Nope. 1934 as reported by GISS (http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/updates/200708.html). Seems they had a bug in their code that inflated the post 2000 temperatures.
Observer, from what I’ve read it wasn’t a glitch…..
Despite the fact that NASA tried to block him from accessing U.S. temperature data, persistent efforts by a climate change blogger forced the government to amend U.S. temperature data.
Because of the blogger’s efforts, NASA now recognizes 1934 as the hottest year in U.S. history, not 1998.
Now, the ten hottest years on record in the U.S., beginning with the hottest year, are: 1934, 1998, 1921, 2006, 1931, 1999, 1953, 1990, 1938 and 1939. Before the revision, that list read: 1998, 1934, 2006, 1921, 1931, 1999, 1953, 2001, 1990 and 1938. The re-ranking completely knocked 2001 off the top 10 list.
McIntyre said he began looking at the data because he questioned the reliability of NASA’s U.S. weather stations that recorded temperature data. He said, “Some of them were in places they weren’t supposed to be….one of them was in a parking lot and the trend for the station in a parking lot was way up and a nearby station that was in a proper location in a rural area was relatively flat.”

The part that mystifies me is the supposition/lie that a warmer earth means catastrophe for the human race. No one wants to reflect on the human vs. global warming periods of the past. I refer to The climatic Optimum (8000 BC -4000 bc approx) and the Little Climatic Optimum (800 ad – 1300 ad. approx) The first period coincides with humanity leaving the cave and inventing the city and nation. The second left measurable stats from recorded history of that epoch. Nuggets like the banning of English wine in France, the fact that the average Englishman was 6 inches taller in 1250 than he was in 1900. This time frame coincided with the construction of the great cathedrals of Europe, projects only embarked on by financial donors with optimistic future financial forecasts. As to its destruction of the planet…the sea rose an average of 16 inches , the tree line in the northern hemisphere was 60 miles further north than it is today, the moderation of temp extremes in the north caused a lack of storm action in the northern oceans that allowed vikings to transport women children and livestock in open craft without fear of heavy weather.
One can only hope that it is warming!
Yet people who want to empty your wallet want you to believe it is bad and also have the hubris to specifically blame it on human activity.
Mad world…
Tenebris,
Good retortin there dude.
When I left home at age 18 my mama said go give em hell Johnny. And I have been doing what I can ever since.
Global warming … global cooling … what’s the difference … Earth is just a galactic motel that we will all be checking out of soon enough so enjoy the pool, order a drink and relax.
Will all of you clowns(and I mean that) that feel you have to justify alby’s crap….go to his site and do it.And that also includes the one’s that feel you have to refute it! Yes.The climate warms, the climate cools, and we mere mortals have f**k all to do with it. You like arguing with an idiot,as I said,go do it on his site!!
Or,just to be sarcastic(NOT),idiots are all you can argue with?

Ah, yep. 2005 is indeed still the warmest year on record. Funny thing though I was going to look it up and post the proof, but I noticed at the bottom of your link that you had already doen just that (and apparently didn’t bother to read it all the way through) .
It says-
“Contrary to some statements flying around the internet, there is no effect on the rankings of global temperature.”
So 1934 is now ranked as the warmest year on record in the continental United States, which represents only 2% of the earths’ surface.
Check out cleanairpass.com Talk about snake oil sales..

Hiding behind technicalities? Enjoy it while it lasts. Having shredded the GISS US temperature record, Steve McIntyre has now turned his attention to what is routinely referred to as the ROW (rest of the world). He is currently ripping Dr. Martin Juckes a new ass*ole, to match the one he tore for Dr. Mann. It won’t be pretty to watch. Mann is now a pariah, unlinkable, unreferencable, unquotable. I have no doubt he is hiding in a cave somewhere drawing hockey sticks on the wall.
http://www.climateaudit.org/
Mann made up data to create AGW hysteria, Juckes ignores data he doesn’t like, Dr. James Hansen from GISS writes bogus computer programs to cover it all up. It isn’t going well for your side, Alby, NASA is having it’s reputation tarnished by these clowns, it is an open question whether Hansen is dumped by NASA sooner than the Grits dump Celine, but they are both headed under a bus.
I have always understood that the temperature in city’s is considerably than in the surounding countryside (~5F). So the solution to global warming is to ban towns of more than 5,000. I have to use that amount because Chemainus is a small village and this wouldn’t effect me. If Al can do it so can I.
