Guilty on 4 of 13 counts (corrected):
After 10 days of deliberations, the jury at the fraud trial for Conrad Black has found the former media baron guilty on four of 13 counts in his fraud and racketeering trial, including the serious charge of obstruction of justice.
Black was cleared of the charge of racketeering, but legal expert Paula Todd called the obstruction charge “extraordinary.”
Who Is Killing The Great 100mpg Carburetor Inventors Of Europe?
On the global warming-mad European continent…
… fuel efficiency is measured by carbon dioxide emissions rather than miles-per-gallon, and the European Commission has mandated 120 grams/kilometer (equivalent to a staggering 62 mpg) by 2012.
They aren’t going to make it.
This week in Belgium, officials acknowledged that an interim goal of 140 g/km (48 mpg) by next year is already beyond reach, as the average emissions of vehicles today is “only” 160 g/km (42 mpg). Even bureaucrats are now suggesting the 120 g/km goal be pushed off to 2015. Why are the Europeans missing their targets?

Y2Kyoto: Saving The Planet
One clear cut forest at a time;
Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday criticized the Kyoto Protocol on climate change for failing to allow countries like his nation with pristine unharvested forests to earn carbon credits.
“The Kyoto Protocol is limited in that sense, and it’s short-sighted in that it encourages bad behaviour basically among countries; if you cut down trees and you plant them back you get money, if you preserve them, you don’t get anything,” Jagdeo told a forum on agro-energy.
But that’s about to change…
He said Guyana has decided to get into the production of bio-fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel.
Goodbye, rain forest – hello, palm oil plantations!

The New Pornography
Borders has reportedly moved the book to the adults “graphic novels” section, where, according to the Times, it is wrapped with a paper band and a note warning that it contains “bourgeois, paternalistic stereotypes of the period — an interpretation some readers may find offensive”.

Count Your Blessings, America
Gateway Pundit has the charts;
Democrats and the media have set new guidelines for America.
The national sacrifice limit will now be set at 4000, max.
Anytime the US records 4000 military losses in 5 1/2 years it will be recognized under the new rules as a horrible defeat.
The US will then promptly surrender to the nearest enemy.
They might have set it at 0.

Beyond The Red Mosque
A sobering analysis from Richard Fernandez;
The same people who argued Iraq was “lost” because a Saddam was toppled will now argue that Pakistan is about to be lost because we won’t help ease Musharraf out of power. Frederic Grare argues that a Pakistan without Musharraf will make a semi-soft landing under the aegis of some other more legitimate miltary strongman. That may well be true, but we have nothing but Grare’s word for it. Iran was “lost” in weeks — because we eased the Shah out of power — though Carter did not think it would end that way. Realistically, once a power struggle erupts in Pakistan, it will take an Old Testament prophet to anticipate how it will finally play out. It’s a dilemma, and I will pose no answer to it. However that may be, the crisis may now be upon us if the Red Mosque incident has provided the match to the powderkeg.
