When the concept of “multiculturalism” was introduced to Canadians, most assumed it meant “more pavilions at Folkfest”.
Daily Mail;
Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed. It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.
There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades – where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem – because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history ‘as a vehicle for promoting political correctness’.
[…]
The report concluded: “In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship.”

I am “pulling my pud?” How’s that?
Nearly 50 commentators rant about how everything that’s wrong with this world is the fault of the left wing/socialists, and I point out that English speaking countries have been governed not by left wing/socialists but mostly by the right wing/capitalists. Somebody has to take the credit or accept the blame. Since corporate ass kissers have been in charge our governments for most of the last three decades, I think it should be them. Do you have a problem with that?
I am a teacher here in Saskatchewan. The government determines what we teach through the curriculum. I am legally obiligated to teach what they tell me. Thankfully the holocaust is still taught and will continue to be taught. I don’t think any one group is going to scare us off of teaching what is true. On the other hand how many muslims do we have here??
lberia – I have a problem with your definitions; I think they are invalid.
You set up capitalism versus socialism. You don’t define capitalism and your definition of socialism as ‘the promotion of trade unions’ and ‘nationalization’ is – well, it’s specific to you. Only the ‘nationalization’ is socialist; I’ve never heard of a requirement for trade unions as a necessary or even probable requirement of socialism.
You slot the first into the ‘right’ and the second into the ‘left’. OK, even without valid definitions, that’s a common binary graph.
Has it occurred to you, that a key component of the definition of a capitalist society is the right of private property? Check out the online site at Economist dot com – their dictionary is useful.
Did you know that Canada doesn’t have such rights? Did you know that China now does? Heh. So, is it a case where the economic mode is directly correlated with the political mode? No?
Then, you throw ‘corporations’ into the right side. Now wait a minute – are you actually saying that socialist economies don’t have corporations??? That’s news.
Your definitions are a mess.
Back to multiculturalism. Now, that’s an ideology that IS socialist. And that’s what this thread is about – multiculturalism, its origins, its validity, its effects. Multiculturalism is a socialist ideology because it focuses on equality of outcome. Not equality of input, but outcome.
It is a socialist ideology because of its collectivist program, where it rejects the individual and gathers everyone into homogeneous groups. It defines these groups as legally, morally, economically equal. Furthermore, it does this by social engineering, ie, by gov’t fiat rather than by actual results of the group’s behaviour.
Multicultural results? Divide and conquer. Isolation of peoples and adversarial interactions. OK?
“2. Have all native citizans and immigrants conform to established culture and principles and learn no other – probably the ideal scenario for most of the readership of this site, but a culture that stands still is one that falls behind. Plus, in a free country you can’t enforce this, and in no time there will be a backlash that will lead to defacto multiculturalism.” – truthseeker
No. You simply don’t allow immigration. Like Japan and South Korea for example.
It constantly amazes me how socialists don’t have the ability to rationally think. This is why they should never be allowed near the reigns of power.
ET:
It was just my quickie, simplistic definition. I know the world is a lot more complicated then that. Other commentators simplistically blame everything on socialism, yet you only criticise me. What is invalid is the blaming socialism for everything that you think is wrong with society.
In english speaking countries, there hasn’t been a government that could even remotely be considered “socialist” since the 1970’s. Governments are responsible for social policies. Yet somehow socialists are to blame. Welcome to the world of the right-wing utopian.
What socialism has wrought:
Multiculturalism, pcism, collectivism, hypocrisy, revisionism, moral, cultural and ethical reletavism.
Obviously, we can rightfully blame modern socialism and socialists for everything that is wrong with society.
But I can’t figure out how all of this leads “to the world of the right-wing utopian.”
It appears equally obvious that socialism has wrought bovine stupidity in its adherents.
Well RUSS it looks like CANADA is becoming like NAZI GERMANY becuase the nazis controled what kids learned
Irwin:
Bovine stupidy is largely confined to right wingers like you, who blame socialists for all the problems but overlook the fact that socialists aren’t in charge of the government.
Right wing utopian: thinks he has all the answers and blames everyone else for self inflicted damage.
This is only one more step towards dumbing down the curriculum for students in the UK, Canada and the USA.
If the students cannot learn, relax the standards.
