Toronto Terror Cell – Who Are Dirie and Mohamed?

Are they the same people?
Reader “Kelly Ann” gets extra marks for sharp eyes; CNN – August 13, 2005;

Ali Dirie, 22, and Yasin Mohamed, 23 — both Canadians from the Toronto area — face weapons-related charges and are in police custody in Niagara Falls, Ontario, according to a police statement. Ontario’s Provincial Weapons Enforcement Team and the Niagara Regional Police Service are investigating.

From the list of those arrested yesterday:

6. Mohammed Dirie, 22, Kingston, Ont.;
7. Yasim Abdi Mohamed, 24, Kingston;

That ought to be good for at least one evening of internet sleuthing.
There’s a more detailed account of the incident (scroll down) by Michelle Shephard in the Toronto Star, including a mention of a 2 year sentence. In Trudeaupia, though, there’s no way to know if they’re still behind bars – (or ever were).
UPDATE – these two are indeed, among the 12 charged, according to a CBC radio report this morning. (The report concentrated on concerns about “backlash” and stressed the “varied” backgrounds of those arrested. Don’t blame Islam – blame Diversity!)

  1. Regarding the Canadian Islamic Congress:
    Does anyone know if these maniacs receive any government money? Money from union dues or the like?
    Read a few of that weirdo Elmasry’s columns…what a nut! One column, celebrating Castro’s 50th anniversary in power, talks about one of Cuba’s “best” features…”the absence of Americans” (!!!!!)
    Someone please get some dirt on this guy so we can bring him down. Oh wait, hold on….there already is a lot on him…no matter since he’s a ‘minority’..the MSM won’t do anything.
    F#$king Trudeau! We can blame this mess on him!

  2. RE: “If Islam were the only religion to be so hijacked then you may have a point. I think perhaps it is merely the latest religion to be used by an inquisition type mentality
    Posted by: steve d. at June 4, 2006 10:48 AM ”
    Use of the word ‘inquisition’ as applies to extremist Islam sells them short. What they are really after is a ‘suicidal/genocidal’ mentality.
    The extremist fundamentlists are experts at brainwashing their followers with these qualities.

  3. The problem with Islam is the koran and what it orders all good muslims to do. No way to get away from that. It doesn’t need to be hijacked as it is the already the perfect vehicle for facists and jihadis. A religion that started, was promulgated and obtained its greatest success with sword in hand is not a religion of peace. Just a few angry young Canadians? Not.

  4. Excellent points Tom. It begs the question: “Islam: religion or cult?”
    Frankly, I don’t even care which description is the more appropriate. I want nothing to do with this so-called religion/cult or any of its adherents, and I am appalled that western societies haven’t taken measures to outlaw this religion/cult.

  5. Okay, back to the thread folks. Russ had an interesting comment on June 4, 2006 08:33 AM,
    that perhaps CSIS arranged to have Dirie and Mohamed released last year in order to follow their movements. This is a common tactic used by intelligence services to “turn” agents, and send them back into the field as “bait”, so to speak.
    But then in today’s Toronto Sun, “Two of the men charged – Mohammed Dirie, 22, and Yasin Abdi Mohamed, 24 – are already imprisoned in Kingston, Ont., after they were caught trying to smuggle guns across the U.S. border last August.”
    Okay, so now I’m really confused. If they are still in prison from last August, then it would appear they’ve been charged again in connection with Friday’s terror bust. According to The Sun, “All 12 of the men are facing one count each of participating in a terrorist group”, so perhaps this charge has been added to their previous charges of gun running.

  6. Back in the 80’s, we Indonesian get shocked because a so called Jihad Commando group hijacked an Indonesian plane to make a point. But the hijacked tragedy could be twarted off without any casualties, thanks because of a special force team of Indonesia Military with help from Indonesia’s fearsome intelligence BAKIN. At that time, people were scare to death if found associated with Islam.
    20 years after that incident, after Soeharto’s military regim got oust from power, we learn that the incident is in fact a plot drawn up by BAKIN, to make Islam a number one public enemy. Not surprisingly, the leader of the BAKIN at the time of the incident is a fundamentalist christian.
    BAKIN inject a person skilful enough to persuade others to embark on Jihad mission, brainwashing them. At this time, the person still free without persecution for what he did 🙁
    Is what happen now is another story, with another background and another actor?!?

  7. Yeah that’s probably it alright. Must be Mossad. Couldn’t possibly have anything to do with jihad. Sure. Nice try.
    BTW, I don’t want to outlaw Islam, just the jihadi fascists. That is, if they can actually be told apart from the sheep.
