Some Facts from Iceland

A short article from Reuters was published recently.  It talks about Iceland.  Here’s a key portion:

COPENHAGEN, Feb 23 (Reuters) – Iceland will lift all remaining COVID-19 restrictions on Friday, including a 200-person indoor gathering limit and restricted opening hours for bars, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

“Widespread societal resistance to COVID-19 is the main route out of the epidemic,” the ministry said in a statement, citing infectious disease authorities.

“To achieve this, as many people as possible need to be infected with the virus as the vaccines are not enough, even though they provide good protection against serious illness,” it added.

The emphasis is the last paragraph is from yours truly.  Is it not fascinating that many of us have been screaming this from the rooftops for at least 22 months but doing so would:

  1. Get you banned from social media.
  2. Cause many people to lose their jobs.
  3. Cause family members & friends to “other” you.

Will any of these “science deniers” now apologize for their misdeeds or outright stupidity?  Or will the politicians & health care “experts” in Canada and the U.S. conveniently rewrite history in their own minds?!  We know the answer.

  1. “3.Cause family members & friends to “other” you.”

My parents are under the impression I am fully jabbed.
    (spoiler – I’m still a pure blood)
I cannot even discuss this with them. The nearest I got was when the topic came up in a round about way and my Mum unironically repeated the claim that Anti-Vax protesters go home and shoot up illegal drugs filled with god knows what, so they are idiots for even suggesting the Jabs are filled with unknown substances.
It was actually a very disturbing moment in that I realised I would now probably be forced to openly lie on the subject to my own parents.
I also have a few friends who are literal anti-vaxers who I repeated the story to. Not that they had met my mother, but the implication that they were hard core drug users didn’t sit well.

    1. I am vaccinated, and my husband, immuno-compromised and pushing 60, is as well. We have a 28 year old son who has previously had an allergic reaction and injury from an MMR shot and also the swine flu shot. He remains clear of these shots. He works from home. He has minimized his social outings. We also ALL had Covid in early 2020.

I have two siblings who are so very fearful of Covid that they have taken in every message from the cult and who relate to the idea of an unvaccinated person as both uneducated, unclean, and a threat if one gets too close. It is extraordinarily difficult to hear their comments and it would be easier to not raise a fuss in the face of them, but I have admonished them in person with a bit of reality.

I recommend you be truthful with your parents and then firm that the discussion on the topic is done. It would likely do your mom some good to sit with her own thoughts on what she has assumed her son to be.

      1. Thank Arlene.

It is tricky. They are both retired. Dad is getting into that ‘awkward’ age that unfortunately happens to some when they age and no longer really seems interested in anything. Hard to talk to.

I see them reasonably regularly – they are both very active (bless them) with various volunteer type work so actually very hard to catch them at home and also the type who only turn their mobile phones on when they want to ring someone – and couple of weeks ago when I dropped in Mum actually asked where my mask was. I ignored the question and went straight for my hug so I am still not sure if she was serious or not.

I am just really cautious about it all. My parents are at the time that if they shut me out there might not be time enough to let me back in again. I had a MASSIVE falling out with my sister about 15 years back and are only now back on regular speaking again.

Really hoping this all goes away soon. State government elections next month here. Our centre right current government has been… ‘better than some of the others’ but still has pointless restrictions. I am hoping they will announce some good restriction news soon as an election bribe.

  2. Consider that most people made this decision to either hang onto their jobs or because the trendy thing is to get jabbed and watch the next dreck from imaginatively bankrupt Hollywood.

Was a bad movie worth injecting one’s self with something untested?

    Let “science” explain.

  3. Meanwhile bullshit Bonnie here in BC is saying that in the coming weeks she might start making decisions about lifting restrictions. I hate boomers so damn much. Their worship of this utter idiot is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.

    1. Yeah, the world is coming to its senses but not our government or health officials here in BC. Still too damned stubborn to admit they were wrong.

      1. We’re talking B. C. here. Lotusland is always right–it’s the rest of the world that got it wrong.

  4. I remember how so many people absolutely lost it when healthy college age kids decided to have Chinese Coronavirus parties in April 2020, just like they used to have Chickenpox Parties. They may have been right, even if half of them were overweight and maybe obese.

  5. And the statement that “they provide good protection against serious illness” is suspect if one looks at the data from the UK vaccine surveillance reports. Looking at that data shows that the higher the number of doses, the higher the death rate.

  6. It gets worse. There’s an article in The Guardian about the idiots speccing that creating weak version of a deadly virus and infecting a few to pass it on to everyone else to get herd immunity might be a better way to go than forcing vaccinations.

Of course, one might suggest that Omicron is doing that. And some will die but….

    1. Being as there is no such damn thing as covid, that would be the least of your worries, as the virus has not been isolated no matter how many lies you are told. If a shot is created it will be something different and designed to do even more damage than the vaxxes.

  7. It may be time to print t shirts that say:

No need to admit I was right.
    A pity you didn’t listen.
    Actions have consequences.
    It was nice knowing you.

But that would be so mean. It is heartbreaking what has happened.

    1. Mary, I appreciate the schadenfreude, but my daughter and son in law were two who didn’t want it but were forced with only a year left on their respective degrees and so made the choice knowing the risks.

I have no hesitation about being mean, but I will save it as my last mission in life when this is fully exposed will be making sure that no one involved with a mandate goes unpunished. If the the law won’t punish them, I will.

  8. You’re misreading the statement. Iceland’s health ministry and chief epidemiologist aren’t pitting natural immunity vs vaccines — it’s not one against the another; in fact, it’s the opposite.

The statement, based on the advice from a internationally respected public health specialist who knows what he’s taking about, simply describes the same strategy current employed everywhere: temporary public health restrictions to reduce close contact exposures as wave begins, continue vaccination campaigns, remove restrictions as the wave crests and herd immunity (natural PLUS vaccine) increases.

Iceland has a respectable 80% two-dose vaccination rate and one of the highest rates of third dose vaccinations in the world. That’s one reason the incidence of serious illness has remained low during their omicron wave, and what’s led to the current lifting of public health restrictions: vaccines temper the risks of serious individual health outcomes and serious population health impacts, which allows for letting the virus infect the population naturally without grave health system impacts, which leads to increased natural immunity, which increases widespread societal resistance to COVID-19, which enables society to exit the pandemic.

    1. False. Vaccine, in my country (Italy) and almost everywhere, have been announced as a remedy capable of stopping infection and its spread; the choice made in Sweden has been described as criminal, destined to cause a genocide. This is what our First Minister and our President said explicitly several times, “Chi non si vaccina muore”, “Chi non si vaccina uccide il prossimo”; their task, was to FORBID natural infection, any positive case was described as a tragedy, people were LOCKED inside their houses no matter if they were fit and young because natural healing was not good, only the vaccine was able to save anyone, alternative cures despised, doctors doing otherwise suspended (even when they cured and saved hundreds, gratis). Non vaccinated people were (and still are) third class citizens, even if already healed and perfectly sane, because only the vaccine protects; today, they can’t enter banks and post offices, they can’t HAVE A JOB, they can’t buy non-essential goods.
Only in the last few days some people on TV and the mainstream papers is beginning to talk according to the line you propose – as if they didn’t say the contrary, calling critics with all the bad names in the dictionary and explicitly proposing to exclude non vaccinated from society. No one has apologized.

      1. Then they revised their Covid death numbers to people who actually died of it and the 130k fell to under 4k.

Didn’t stop them from firing another 500k, but that’s one way to cut the pension rolls and trim your staff.

I hope they file lawsuits when the science comes out.

      2. Please don’t feed the trolls, ESPECIALLY trolls who openly worship PM Justinian.

    2. Or they can start by treating it with ivermectin, HCQ, doxycycline and vitamin C.

Or they could have had public service announcements for at least a year about the importance of a good Vitamin D level, a healthy weight and diet and do what you can to avoid the Cormorbidities that help kill you when you get it.
