BC Election Watch Thread (Bumped)

Adam Pankratz: “We do not do this because it is easy, but because we thought it would be easy.”

David Eby called an election two years early because he thought he had an easy cakewalk to a large or even super majority. The most recent polls suggest it may well be Eby who has handed his opposition — the B.C. Conservative party led by Lorne Doerksen — a large or even super majority. If Eby loses, it will undoubtedly go down as one of the biggest self-inflicted political blunders this country has ever seen.

It’s an open thread, use it wisely.

Robert here: With the polls closing at 8pm PDT, I trust Kate won’t mind me moving this thread to the top.

Stephen Taylor has a results map.

From Kate: Juno News has live coverage.

Update: this shitkicking of the NDP is bad news for Carney.

Well, that was fast: Eby has resigned.

  1. The word I looked for at the National Post link was “opportunist” … Premier Eby struck while the Conservatives were in apparent disarray, while they themselves were completely unready, without a clear path to creating a “vote for us because we will do this…” while everywhere around them it’s plain to see what the NDP have done.

I wish some of the NDP candidates would “lose their deposits”

If the Conservatives with Lorne Doerkson as Premier simply don’t bring any “new legislation” but simply undo what the NDP have done, they will be a success.

I suspect Doerkson will have more to offer than that, and that he often enough pauses to looks over his shoulder at what brought him to this place.

    1. The biggest laugh of the campaign was their claim Conservatives had tried 13 non-confidence motions so they needed a larger majority, afraid of a party that was imploding under its own self-righteous weight.

This is turning into a world class political blunder. My prediction is Conservatives 57; NDP 34; Green 2. We’ll see.

      1. “The biggest laugh of the campaign ”

My biggest laugh was when they tried to use Donald Trump as a threat to BC.

  2. eby should have studied up on one david peterson FORMER premier of ontariowe:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Peterson
from the link: ” As a result, Peterson decided to call a snap election, less than three years into his mandate. This proved to be his greatest mistake.[26]”

it gave the iN Dep Pee their only and 1 term majority in the province, giving us ‘rae days’ where civil servants stayed home and lost a day’s pay to cut costs. it was also when rental accommodation regulations went haywire and allowed all manner of abuse from corrupt tenants.

    opportunists and schemers.

    1. The only good thing about Rae Days was listening to my whiny far left inlaw teachers who voted for him express their regret when they lost a bit of pay. Controlling my facial expression was difficult.

      1. The morning after the Rae victory a friend shook his head saying he voted for the Dippers cuz he didn’t think they’d actually win, something a lot of idiots in Ontariowe were thinking.
Buyer’s remorse not twelve hours after polls closed. Gotta be some kind of record.

    2. After Peterson had made a deal with the NDP an election before to oust the Conservatives, the genesis behind the one term fiscal disaster the replaced common sense Ontario with the radical republic of Zimbobrae.

    1. “David Eby=far left.
      Lorne Doerkson=middle left.”

      Exactly.

A real conservative won the leadership, then they threw her out for being a conservative.

It’s OneBC or nothing for me.

  3. I sincerely hope Eby’s defeat is so epic he cannot show his face in public again. That smarmy useless twat.
I bet he was hated by everyone in high school.
    He’s an arrogant retard.
Are him and Carney brothers? Or sisters.

    1. “I sincerely hope Eby’s defeat is so epic he cannot show his face in public again.”

It’s funny to remember how humbled he was by the results of the last provincial election . He looked visibly shaken on camera, yet his actions between then and now prove that he learned absolutely nothing from the experience. Truly not a bright person.

  4. Eby has accomplished one thing. My entire interest in the election is to see how badly he gets crushed.

  5. BC is Canada’s most feudal province with it’s people most removed from the 95% Crown owned land that is being given away to tribal communism under the NDP/LPC/SCOC behind closed doors and that the people are just becoming aware of which also plays into the timing. If the Conservatives are elected today and repeal DRIPA which they must, the streets will erupt as the leftist destruction planned will experience a setback including perhaps, an awakening by the incurious grazers to the future planned for them.

The Coast will remain mostly brain-dead, infantilized and emotionally, if not genetically tied to the NDP with Greens voting strategically to support them, the Lower mainland will be split and the Interior will be almost all Conservative. It could go either way. If the NDP succeed, BC’s economic decline will continue as it as already an investment no-go zone and dystopia of happy-faced Eloi. Their current path will destroy whatever remains of any social contract as the 99% off the reserve will be eventually attaining “official” serfdom status.

  6. A huuge blunder by Eby. It looks like a Conservative victory on the morning of election day. I predict a minority government. But no matter the outcome of the election, Eby is finished as leader of the BC NDP.

    1. Can’t listen to any media Dirtman, their job is sowing uncertainty. Especially propping up the Greenies, typical media, going full climate change fanatic.
The remarkable item about this campaign, is the media going on ATTACK MODE to the NDP. After years of the coddling Kid Gloves treatment, it’s refreshing. Yet, cynically, this is happening because the order has gone out from the PMO, to the media/union, to attack the NDP because the Fed Libs are the UnitedLibCons.
The Greens will pull enough votes from the Dippers to exaggerate the seat count victory. Anything to embarass the egregious, incompetent NDP.

      1. You could be right that the fed LPC was trying to remove the NDP. I guess that remains to be seen. But if the provincial cons repeal DRIPA, like they say, that is directly against what the LPC stands for.

My opinion, and I am open-minded about this, is that the MSM only owes a debt to the LPC and not to any Premier or his/her party. So the media in BC turned on David Eby the second he called the election and have been hammering him over pretty much everything including his dismal record from the minute the writ was dropped. He is a fool and they let him know. The $10 a day daycare revelation probably cooked him completely. But the votes are yet to be cast. I feel like Ed Grimly waiting for the results.

One thing I never saw was when Eby was trying to smear Jimmy Pattison and people were defending Jimmy, no-one ever pointed out that former NDP Premier Glen Clark went to work for the Pattison Company when he got booted from politics, even though people quoted John Horgan praising Jimmy for his philanthropy and basically building cancer wards in the province. You can’t make this stuff up.

        1. They say they will repeal it.
Milobar is a snake in the grass, his family is heavily invested in the Kamloops band, his wife is an Injun. And it’s more than that.
Will they repeal? Revise and leave in place? Introduce their own slime version? Time will tell. We know it won’t revert to 10 years ago, but, these massive giveaways, secret deals and loss of land rights are non-starters.
38% of BC voters are functionally stupid and incompetent. We can move that to 50% by including the Watermelon voters.

  7. Indeed, there will be 3 truths clearly demonstrated today!
    1. Eby is a Fool. He broke a long term, unwritten rule and political tradition. Namely, calling an election while your opposition has no leader. The Stink cannot be undone, even within his own tent. Rumour is, the knives were out within the party to depose Eby. And, the “reason” to call the election has never been the same. He’s constantly changing his reasons. No Ethics, No Standards.
    2. The urban/rural divide couldn’t be more clear. Vancouver/Burnaby, Victoria/Nanaimo bubbles, and the rest of the province. At least the South and East Mainland regions have been penetrated, namely Surrey, Delta ridings. Those are the bellwethers. Seems to be a national problem, that the Left is only to happy to exploit, ignoring and sniping at those not living in a BIG city.
    3. We’re voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Another typical Pyrrhic choice. The NDP must be tossed out, there is no question. In exchange, we get the UnitedLibCons, which is full of FEDERAL LIBERALS, with some convenient Conservatives. Yeah, I know. OneBC and CentreBC will be asterisks in history. Despite her brave work, Dallas Brodie is done.

Where we go after today? Doerksen is a decent guy from the Cariboo, but likely not the long term leader, though his demeanour is a welcome change. It would not be a surprise to see a L contest in the future where Caroline Elliott is installed. Will DRIPA be repealed or revamped?

Two big problems in BC, the Economy and the Culture Wars. They intertwine especially with the Secret Indian giveaways. Investment is trickling to a halt thanks to the land uncertainty. Even investors don’t want to deal with the Indians, they are completely untrustworthy, at least too many are, the entire process has become toxic. Natives have threatened to “Shut Down BC” if DRIPA is repealed. Have at her then Indians, time to have this fight and get it over with. They’ve never had it better!

    1. “Will DRIPA be repealed or revamped? ”

Not by the so-called BC ‘Conservatives’, no. They don’t have anywhere near the intestinal fortitude OR the integrity to do so.

    2. “The urban/rural divide couldn’t be more clear. Vancouver/Burnaby, Victoria/Nanaimo bubbles, and the rest of the province”

      Provinces? Certainly Alberta and Ontario.

  8. At this point in time I think a minority Liberal floor crosser/faux conservative government with OneBC the balance of power to hold them accountable would IMO be the best outcome.

  9. Polling station was quick. 5 minutes in/out.

Went to advance vote on Tuesday. Lineups. Election worker said it was a 1 hour wait. Ridiculous. Only Elections BC could turn a very simple process into an extended IQ test examination.
Walked out, wasn’t wasting my time being a stupid lemming

    1. Polling station on the “last day” (which should be “the only day”) was totally fast and I my neighbour (and daughter) were working at the table. Chatted about our dogs, complained about the weather (annoying first rain of the season at the lower mainland), and even voted!!

  10. It is such an existential, enervating, yet exciting, and essential election call, because Trump made Eby do it (sarc).
My hope is to see Dweeby turfed out of his Tony riding and denied further $10 dollar daycare.
I would also like to see Adrien Dix lose his seat for what he did during ‘covid,’
If the ‘conservatives’ actually win, I would love to see them turf Bonnie Henry.
Doerksen seems to be a good guy from the Cariboo….Williams Lake. He may be more conservative than he’s letting on.
Anyway, I won’t stay up late enough to find out results, but hoping for a nice Sunday here in the beautiful Okanagan, where Autumn is lingering, and the October light is golden.

    1. 338Canada Polls
      Percent – Cons 45% – Commies 39% – Greenies 12%
      Seats – Cons 58 – Commies 33 – Greenies 2

  11. I should add a comment re: my support for the BC Conservatives (from a distance, it’s not like I’m voting in this campaign) that the reason for me supporting the Conservatives is that OneBC isn’t likely to have enough support to form a gov’t, and I do want to see the NDP Gov’t crushed, to a similar extent that the PQ crushed whoever was governing in Quebec (CAQ) last month and now have zero seats…
I’ve seen what happens in AB (Wild Rose and Conservatives), in the USA (when Bill Clinton was elected) and nationally in Canada (Reform / Alliance and “Progressive” Conservatives) when the right side of the vote split.

  12. As the saying goes, “Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.”

  13. A few years ago the former BC Conservative leader John Rustad spoke at an event I attended in Calgary while he was still leader. He seemed to be the most sensible politician I’ve heard come out of BC in a dog’s age. I don’t know what happened to him other than poof, he was gone, and all hell has broken loose since on the right.

For what it’s worth, this is what Wikipedia says about that: On December 3, 2025, 20 of the 39-member caucus signed a letter calling for Rustad to resign from his position as leader. The party’s board of directors then passed a resolution declaring Rustad “professionally incapacitated” and ousting him as leader, appointing Surrey-White Rock MLA Trevor Halford as interim leader.[62] However, in the immediate aftermath, five Conservative MLAs refused to acknowledge the board’s decision and said that Rustad remained party leader,[63] and Rustad himself, citing the party’s constitution, rejected that he had been removed.[64] The next day, the right-wing blog Western Standard reported that Rustad would step down as leader;[65] shortly thereafter, Rustad announced that he had resigned, seeking to avoid what he described as a “civil war” within the party.[66]”

    1. “The party’s board of directors then passed a resolution declaring Rustad “professionally incapacitated” and ousting him as leader,”

Same thing they did to John Cummins before him and Kerry-Lynne Findlay after him.

  14. Good to bump up Robert.
This is as close to WAR as we get in these parts.
The NDP has ran a terrible campaign. They have no achievements to run on, so it’s been attack ads, hyperbole, fearmongering and Bogeyman tactics.
It’s the Mean Girls campaign. Right thru today.
The races to watch are Pt Grey, Eby’s riding, Farnsworth’s riding (Gay Covid Nazi) in Coquitlam, and Vancouver Island, for ridings outside Victoria, to see how many turn blue.
That and to see if the Cons hit 60 seats.
An NDP loss is baked in. Eby looked COOKED yesterday.

  15. Can’t say I know much about the BC conservatives. However, one thing I do know is that I cannot stand Eby, he has been an absolute disaster for the province and for Canada, from handing over large tracts of BC to natives, to creating chaotic economic conditions, to promoting racist policies.

  16. Looks like a Conservative majority. Currently 65 con, 27 NDP 1 green, according to the Mother Corp. 8:47 BC time.

  17. As a BCer, I hope any incoming government does the right thing and moves to unlock our resources. And, for goodness sake, build some freeways. All this SkyTrain BS is fun to promise, but expensive to implement. Put a viaduct here and there. Residing in the lower mainland, I can say we have a very dysfunctional traffic system: any fender-bender and you loose lanes of moving vehicles. I already told the wife – in the case of a catastrophic event in which we need to evacuate, I die in the house, just to avoid traffic.

  18. Ding Ding the Bitch is Dead!
Looks like 60 seats and a 10 point spread for the w8n, better than any pollster.
Doerksen, cool, calm, collected Lorne, was ebullient in victory.
Sure, the old guard NDPers keep getting elected, but at some point soon, they will retire.
Can you really see dinosaurs like Dix and Chagall and Brokeback Farnsworth sticking around for four more years? No.
And now the media is fawning over Green grrrrl. Oy vey, on a night when the Conservatives have a historic victory, the media fawns greenie grrrrl.
Well, here’s to a new era in BC, turning the page for a brighter future!

    1. I went to the CP24 web site to read about the BC Conservative victory, and the article attacks the Conservatives as votes are being counted. The corporate media are such s***ts, always.

  19. The popular vote showed the Greens going for broke and killed the NDP chances but even with them the left was at 50% +_. I thought that they would vote more strategically but they didn’t and instead served their only useful purpose. They helped 5 Vancouver Island ridings go Conservative. Eby has already resigned. None of the Conservative splinter parties elected anyone. Too bad that Dallas Brodie didn’t get in as she is great, like Mad Max and now unelectable. The Conservatives have their work cut out for them.

  20. if the consensus was hongcouver and victodia the urban ctrs going iN Deep Pee then thats what happened
l think l see the problem here with BC politics.

  21. Not quite the extermination event the left deserved, but the ball is in the Conservatives’ court.
