I’ve noticed on X.com, and elsewhere, an increasing number of accounts which post the stupidest of takes on the situation in Canada, ignoring all facts – current or past – and focused entirely on emotion. They all seem to have some common themes:
- Mark Carney is a great PM who is trying his best for the country.
- You’re unpatriotic, and likely a traitor, if you disagree with the Liberal Party of Canada.
- If you disagree with any of the Elbows Up narrative then you’re a northern MAGA fascist.
- Either shut up and join The Program™ or get the hell out of the country.
- No one outside of Canada is allowed to comment on what’s going on inside of Canada.
- If you disagree with The Current Narrative™ then you must be a bot.
I simply can’t take any of this B.S. any longer, so I just immediately block these low-IQ morons. But this begs the question: Are these real people or just bots?
Have you experienced anything similar?
I’m inclined to think they are bots of foreign origin (or, at least a significant number of them are). I’ll give you an example. When Ukraine targeted a number of Russian data centers about 3 weeks ago, some of them went down for a period of time. In that time frame about 70%+ of the Pro-Palestinian comments disappeared from “X”. I don’t think it was a coincidence.
So, ask yourself, which foreign country benefits the most from the current path Canada is taking. I think it’s obvious. And, I, also, think it’s pretty obvious that the “bot narrative approach” is a very instrumental tool in intelligence agencies these days.
May I suggest a friendly correction …

I haven’t experienced this, though I do run into some unhinged Canadians. I’m an American who lived in Ontario for nearly 20 years , mid-70s to mid-90s, then lived on the border in NY for many more years. So I’m interested in Canada’s affairs, and hate to see (but am not surprised by) what’s happening in Canada. The handful of Canadians I follow on X are all quite sane. But not all the responses they get are, that’s for sure.
I’m curious, when you do come across online some who disagrees, will you engage them in a discussion/debate? If so, what might prompt you to end the conversation?

In the recent past few months leading to the Alberta Referendum I’ve seen this much more on Facebook than on X, though I may have only found it easier to ignore on X.
Most of the accounts on Facebook which were cluttering that news feed have now stopped promoting this now or have disappeared. At least 1/2 of the accounts I’ve actually followed on Facebook are preempted by news or accounts I don’t follow, and am completely uninterested in. I scroll through it as though it was in pink noise.
Something in the FB algo is broken, I use it to sell items more conveniently than Kijiji rather than using it as a news source.
Yeah, in the last few weeks, almost all my Facebook feed is stuff I’ve never seen before or recognize, and a lot of which I have zero interest in. For instance, about every tenth post is about some sort of dog rescue or SPCA or related thing. I don’t even have pets, and haven’t since I was a kid. What the hell?

I can say this – early this year, the day Carney was speaking in Davos, I had a bunch of dyed in the wool right wing political types in my SUV for one of my energy tours. Their phones were all blowing up over the Davos speech. That inspired me to come up with a new drinking game – every time a true blue conservative (or green Saskatchewan Party-type) says something about nice about Carney, drink. I’ve referenced it a few times in my podcast.
Since then, a guy could have been loaded most of the time. It’s weird. It’s kind of unnerving. But maybe, just maybe, having a prime minister that isn’t trying to destroy your province is the way things are supposed to be, and we’ve just forgotten during the decade of darkness? I’m not reaching for the Scotch, but it’s something I’ve definitely seen since Davos.

hmmm . . . . then l remember a trick from decades ago, the mboard ‘tests’ the RAM speed by sampling only the first component, chips or sim in the 1st slot setting THAT as clock speed for everything
perhaps the existing 1st slot is faster than the 2nd as such when setting read/write speed the 2nd is ignored because it cant keep up? (or something to that effect)
so l switch them, iow doing like in the old days you put the SLOWEST ram chips in #1 slot.

Almost nobody here has any idea about the Canadian politics, so there’s no really danger in bumping into that here. But your points can be rewritten to match europolitics.

These statements pretty well describe the major news media and people who think along the same lines as the good edumacated people up there.
When I read a local ‘based’ net forum that’s fundamentally free speech oriented and hosted abroad because of that, the situation is completely different. There are a couple of Russian bots. You’ll recognize them from the constant flow of pro-Russia, pro-Putin, anti-Ukraine, anti-Finland, anti-EU, anti-Nato, anti-West, anti-Israel and anti-US propaganda.
There are a few detractors who push left-wing moronism 24/7 also.
But most accounts on the forum are actually pretty nice, from center left to hard right. They get along well, and can argue about politics sanely. However, from the volume of messages, the most racist shoot-n****rs far right trolls, Russian voices and far-left voices are most prominent, making the moderators work hard to remove personal insults and many sorts of off topic and spamming.
There is a factual Russian activity going on in Finland, and that’s not imagination the slightest amount. But if you look things from the distance, most of the social media is rather dominated by people who follow the main stream media pretty blindly. They’re rather anti-Israel, anti-Trump. Just like Russian bots. But they’re also pro-immigration despite the obvious issues the whole Europe is suffering.
For some particularly mad reason, Denmark is somehow excluded. It is largely against mass immigration, though has a strong social democrat party. Germany, on the other hand, is badly suffering from division fueled by Russia too. They are splitting into Russia minded AfD and immigration minded left. I look there in horror. Their anti immigration faction has been taken over by Russia.
The worst horror though is, that the war Russian started has been running hot for 5 years, yet Europe is not mass producing defense missiles. It’s like we’re still taken over by our leftist, do-nothing, military-hating pacifists. In Finland, at the home of Finlandization, this is something you can see more clearly than elsewhere. Much of this is easily explainable in a historical context – Europe is militarily weak due to the Second World War, how it affected us — but not Soviet Union, which had a totally opposite trajectory.
