I sometimes think that Netflix’s entire business model was predicated on one enormous gamble… that Netflix could successfully kill off the theatrical model altogether. It almost worked, too…. except that it didn’t. And now Netflix finds itself in a tough spot.

Why not pay them based upon eyeballs after a theatrical release period? That would give them the back end the author so dearly wants to return to to preserve movie theatres.
‘Theatrical model’? puhleeze … that’s not Hollywood/Netflix/Amazon’s problem. Hardcore LGBTQueer, Christian-Hate, America-Hate, Whitey-Hate content is the problem. But they all refuse to believe their disappearing audiences.
Yeah, not one mention of the way Netflix is deliberately alienating half of their potential audience with all the DEI woke crap they put out. Subscribers are fleeing in droves…no one is craving lesbian space witches or black Cleopatras anymore.
Ohhhh ewwwww … lesbian space witches! Are they hot? What lesbian in a man’s body (like me) doesn’t like watching HOT lesbians going at it?
Nonsense, my new screenplay, “Black Cleopatra In Lesbian Witch Space”, is a sure-fire success. I expect to be franchising the new Lesbian Witch Space burger outlets by the spring.
I would start with the content sucks. It doesn’t matter what your economic model looks like if your content sucks. I would add that the content that Netflix has been producing, sucks. But it bares repeating. Don’t produce crap and maybe your business will succeed.
Ignoring the fact that the content sucks, these companies seemed to have learned a trick about how to provide content. Use a great product to spawn a new “channel”. Forget Netflix. You need a subscription to 4-5 different companies (e.g., Disney, Paramount, Hulu, Crave …) just to see the 4-5 best rated programs.
My late sister and I dropped Netflix years ago when they started to do little girl pornography. Then with the Harry and Meghan crap, we were happy to do so. The ONLY thing I would watch on Netflix is “Outlander” but I have read the books so I know what happens.
I am thinking of subscribing to Paramount Plus so that I may finish “Yellowstone” and then start “Dutton Ranch” and watch “Landman”. Taylor Sheridan knew his stuff – excellent writing, directing and excellent actors.
I dropped Disney+ years ago when they started to do little girl pornography.
There, I fixed it for me.
