  1. Ron McLean on HNIC called it “dark optimism” after the CBC showed the lights going out on Parliament Hill.
    Stupid, stupid people.

  2. Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder.
Gotta see how many RPM I can get on the ol’ power meter!

  3. But clearly visible in the same shot behind the Parliament buildings were the blazing lights of Hull or Gatineau or whatever they’re calling it these days; it would appear that Ottawa’s civil service isn’t buying into the Earth Hour crap (or maybe Quebec is in its own “distinct” timezone?).
By the way, I like the “Can’t. Cleaning my oven” tweet too.

  4. I knew I left those Christmas lights up for a reason. Some red and green floods should finish it off nicely.

  5. Justin won’t save much power as he is a very dim bulb.
Into the valley with no depth charged the dim bulb brigade.
    Was there a Liberal dismayed?
No though SDA troop knew they had blundered
    Ours to reply
    Ours to give reasons why
Liberals elect Leaders that not only don’t shine
Justin was left by a former “Leader” at the scene of the crime.

  6. Doing my usual weekend activities – but just bunched them into and around that hour as much as possible. Laundry, and while the dryer is running time for that hot shower and that’s after a very nice roast beef dinner! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. For Liberals/NDP types turning out the lights helps them avoid reality, and thus prevents them suffering a resultant PTSD.

  8. He would make a good cult leader in a commune. Well I guess thats what he is now.

  9. I wonder if he and Hedy Fry discussed how to put out all those burning crosses blazing away in Prince George, as we speak!

  10. I’d love to hear the babbling BS out of Ron McLean if asked what the hell he meant with “dark optimism”. Gawd it’d be painful to listen to wouldn’t it. That whole HNIC / Leafs TV is painful to listen to but I digress…

  11. Four computers,TV and half the lights in the house on,may just do a load of laundry too. Bless the guys who invented all the modern electric and electronic gadgets that make our lives so good.
I’d do some reloading too, but can’t see how that would affect power usage.

  12. I was going to deliberately ignore Earth Hour but somehow I seem to have gone one better than that: I simply forgot all about it.
I watched a DVD all evening and didn’t remember it was Earth Hour tonight until I heard about it on the 11:00 pm news.
    Huh.

  13. I just turned on every light in the house, the dryer and oven to celebrate Human Achievement Hour.

  14. Celebrating “Human Achievement Hour” with all lights (including Christmas lights)blazing as I post this. Only 1/3 of my street is doing the “earth hour” nonsense. I keep hoping one of them will come knocking on my door demanding to know why all I don’t observer their religious rite but they never do.

  15. I don’t know why Mr. Trudeau, Jr. keeps doing this stuff, particularly through this “open trench coat” medium, as Kate refers to it. Why not a two or three paragraph news release with a bit of effort at substantive rationale, however wrong-headed, instead? He’d almost certainly get a bunch of positive MSM coverage out of that.
I don’t follow Twitter at all, but I understand that Mr. Harper has a much larger following than Justin, and the last tweet from the PM that I saw was him telling us he was going to Kyiv on March 22 (I think Kate posted that one). That’s at least, you know, original, informative and substantively surprising — Harper has still been the only NATO Head of Government who’s been to Ukraine (to my knowledge), and it appears to me that his point-of-the-spear visit there has, together with his performance in Brussels (G7) and Munich (with Ms. Merkel), proven at least somewhat embarrassing for Mr. Putin, apparently, given some of the news today.
But Justin’s tweet about “Earth Hour” is just glib tropey-dopey piling on, which is a hole he has dug for himself through his various vacuous verbal missteps to date. And, IMO, that’s killing him: he might think it’s clever, but it’s not audacious or different or interesting in the way his father could be. It sort of reminds me of Paul Martin’s empty pronouncements as PM, and we all know how well that ultimately worked out for the Liberals…

  16. By coincidence I was at the saddledome tonight and was there a couple of years ago for “earth hour”. Two years ago there was all kinds of fuss about powering down the lights during intermission etc.
This time? No mention of it whatsoever.

  17. This was the first time I’ve been ticked off enough by my high BC Hydro bill to switch on every light in the house and garage, put the coffee pot and dishwasher on, and bake a batch of muffins, all during this year’s global pagan ritual. Ironically, judging by survey questions I’ve answered, the government or BC Hydro, or whatever entity regularly solicits my opinions, composes questions in such a way as to reinforce the raising of electricity rates as a form of behaviour modification. Kinda stupid, if you ask me.:)

  18. went out for a beer run…..things were bright all over. Nobody buys this crap except for the weak and stupid.

  19. Everything the left does regarding the energy sector is meant to make the costs skyrocket and modify our behavior. Ultimately there will be those who will no longer be able to afford it and may freeze to death in winter or die from other associated risks like food poisoning from rotten food because they can no longer afford to power the fridge. It might be time to start showing to riot when the professional protestors make an appearance. When they go out to protest they should have their asses kicked. And wherever they live they should be forced out. They are a detriment to our society. They want to disrupt our lives and kill as many of us as they can. I say we can’t tolerate this any more. Anti-human nut jobs of the green movement are merely passive aggressive serial killers. If society puts up with their BS for much longer we are gonna pay the price with innocent lives.}

  20. The latte loving Cadillac Socialists love any excuse to hide their warts by candlelight as they sip Champers and wonder what the peasants they like to control/take care of are doing in their cold dark shacks.

  21. Ignored the North Korea hour, reading a novel.
As an aside, for those who watch for the constant trickle of Agenda21 implementation. Search Agenda21 / Canada
Justin Trudeau has been tapped as an ambassador for the UN parliamentary candidate for Canada. Gerald Butts his manager and best buddy are full steam ahead with Agenda21. These two idiots will be the ruin of our great country should they ever be allowed the levers of power.
Very worrisome to say the least.

  22. I did all my electrical using chores grouped into the Earth Hour time frame I could (laundry, dish washer, ironing, etc.)
Since there were some not using power I thought I should use the power going to waste as the water and turbines continued to produce power even as people cut their usage.
I hope more people did the same and didn’t let it go to waste.

  23. The sad Earth Hour reality in Ontario; CO2 emissions due to electricity production actually rose during Earth Hour. Check out http://www.ieso.ca “Hourly Generator Output & Capability Report”. All that effort makes great PR, but didn’t accomplish anything.
Sometime before 7 o’ clock, TA Douglas of Mississauga shut down two of their turbines. It was probably down for maintenance until at least 8pm. Then they started them back up, even though we didn’t need their power. Hydroelectric stations were spilling water and shutting down (900MW in 2 hours). They, like about 940 MW of natural gas generators, are on guaranteed contracts. They run whether Ontario needs them or not. Not one of them shut down during Earth Hour. Of course, all of the coal generators are permanently closed now.
