Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

He’s just upset his cousin didn’t win the leadership even though she had a little bit of Trudeau in her.
BEAUTIFUL KATE! Heh, a raised middle digit to the self-anointed narcissists in the chattering class clique – just beautiful! I raise my finger to Bubble boy Coyne and his merry band of insulated GTA/Ottawa journo-snobs. The eastern press gallery has become nothing but a gated community echo chamber – a voice only for the Laurentian elite.
Just making official what was already a fact
Ahhh, Mr. Coyne caught preening to himself as he glides out from behind the figurative net with his head down.
You amuse us too, Kate.
Moral and intellectual superiors. ‘Snicker’ ;).
Coyne is as done as the Boogieman Glowball Warming the losers spent the last 20 years fleecing the taxpayers over, the repeaters ran with every scare story that the IPCC and every other fraudster presented them with, no investigation, just like all their attacks on PM Harper, the so called MSM are done like a baked spud with about the same IQ as the spud. They are to stupid and colorblind to even understand and see the red ink on their financials. Remember the Iggy, remember the Dion now everyone stand and bow for Justine, they are such an incestuous lot, those liberals and their urnalists, like a colony where inbreeding is demanded. Well here are the results of inbreeding.
And us as well.
Well said Occam. My sentiments exactly. I became disaffected from the Laurentian Elite media “red guard” for being the mouthpiece of the Liberals decades ago when I realized what they were up to.
When you live in the central Canada media echo chamber like Coyne does, after the relentless echo-feedback pounds back on their journalistic sensibilities, they eventually just lose all perspective and let their inner narcissism win the battle over commons sense.
And he gets to take MacLeans magazine down with him.
A two-fer!
This is insane. I don’t agree with him on everything, but Coyne is an astute writer and his political critique is generally consistent in a way that runs across partisan lines. On economics he’s more pro-free trade and less whimsical on taxation than the Harper Tories. Socially, he’s probably on the centre-left, but writes about so-cons as though they’re decent individuals with a right to fair representation in parliament, which again puts him to the right of the current government. Lazily writing him off as ‘Laurentian Elite’ so he can be ignored is asinine.
Well, Ken, you should be relieved to know the Laurentian elite no longer run the country – only in their dreams – and of course in the media. Their party has been reduced to a regional rump sitting in the third place opposition bleachers.
The nation’s policy is being decided by people in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, BC, Hibernia and the bedroom communities north and east of GTA. Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal don’t call the shots any more – beggars rarely do.
Kate, if you don’t stop goading the leftards, your name will be removed, from the sacred sayings of David Suck-zuki distribution list…. Why the may even blacklist you from the pronouncements of Justin..
How timely. I was just about to post this in Reader Tips: Andrew Coyne shilling for Justin Trudeau (gag):
Justin Trudeau’s terrorism ‘root causes’ comments unfortunate but not truly objectionable
This is total BS. Trudeau’s comments are utterly objectionable. What root causes is he looking for in this abominable and heinous act that has ruined hundreds, if not thousands of lives, has shut down the U.S.A.’s 10th largest city for two days, and has used thousands of law enforcement officers — a total overreaction — to track down a lone 19 year-old on the lam?
Trudeau’s characterizing these terrorists as, possibly, “excluded” or “marginalized” — “completely at war with innocents,” whatever this moronic statement means — is obscene in the extreme. These were two extremely privileged boys (Tamerlan drove a Mercedes and hung out every weekend at his in-laws’ upscale spread on Rhode Island) who had greatly benefited from the generosity and hospitality of the U.S. which they entered as refugees.
Why make excuses for Trudeau’s comments on terrorists, whoever they turned out to be? There’s nothing “baffling” about the phenomenon of “homegrown terrorism.” These boys made choices about being radicalized by a specific, aka Islamist, ideology, about biting the very generous hand that fed them as, it appears, many young North American Muslims have done before them. When Mr. Coyne ponders how young North Americans become radicalized and wonders how security establishments might try psychological profiling in order to identify potential terrorists, is he unaware that the FBI did just that with Tamerlan Tsarnaev a couple of years ago? Is he unaware that the FBI then, inexplicably, posted photos of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, asking the public to help them locate him and his brother?
Fat lot of good “whole sections of the security establishments” in the U.S. attempting to identify potential terrorists did in the Tsarnaevs’ case.
Mr. Coyne just doesn’t get it, nor does the Shiny Pony: Justin Trudeau’s great gaffe was in not whole heartedly condemning these barbaric bombings and then talking about ‘root causes, if he felt he had to. His great gaffe was to immediately posit excuses for these terrorists, with the background meme of political correctness and multiculturalism supporting his bleating about “exclusion” and “marginalization.” Tamerlan said he had “no American friends”? What about his wife? Oh, yeah: Muslim wives aren’t their husbands’ friends …
Mr. Coyne’s defense of his “cousin” is a massive fail. To write “[Trudeau] never ventured what he thought the ‘root causes’ were” is disingenuous. Trudeau did venture what the root causes were: “exclusion,” “marginalization, “completely at war with innocents, [and] at war with a society,” all of them within the progressives’ lexicon.
JaRED…anybody who treats the commie, socialist scum as “decent” people had better check out Mao,Pol Pot,Stalin,Hitler, etc. You included. So which Lieberal,Honourable Trough Sucking Pig do you work for?
Re: the Trudeau root causes article.
The article concludes: “I don’t say he offered much deep thinking on the subject: much else that came out of his mouth was vague, incoherent or both.”
If that’s shilling…
Is it worth my time to argue with someone who thinks ‘so-con’ means “commie, socialist scum”, and not social conservative?
No. No it is not.
Jared, did you read the rest of Coyne’s column? Plenty of shilling for cousin Justin. As I’ve said a number of times before, Mr. Coyne speaks with forked tongue.
Jared, the issue isn’t Coyne’s assets as a journalist.
Twitter is the open trenchcoat of journalism. They spend most of their time displaying themselves to one another, and in this, Coyne is a major offender.
Simply, Kate has the world’s most boffo bullshit radar.
Honestly, I live in perpetual dread of being called out on my, hopefully only occasional, BS.
Beautiful Kate!
Paraphrasing the late Baronnes Thatcher, this lady is not for bee-essing.
Jared your points are fair enough but I am afraid Mr. Coyne has become quite full of himself and a hefty dose of humility forced upon him is probably a good thing.
Mr. Coyne is not alone in this character flaw. Seeing your own words in print and broadcast is heady stuff and, like a drug can affect your judgement. Pretty soon you start to thing you are actually smarter & far more wise, capable & compassionate that everyone else. This is terribly endemic in the “lauentian Elite”.
Comments like Kate’s are helpful as they pop small holes in these inflated gas bag egos and shrink them some.
So, you are wrong Jared. It is not “insane”. It is an opinion, every bit as valuable as anything Coyne writes.
It is not “asinine”. Kate’s post has value and the comments it caused in this forum are frustrations that arrogant peacocks like Coyne should be paying attention to.
Excellent analogies, Kate and batb. In the effete plastic bubble world of pantywaist ‘journalism’, the clear plastic trenchcoat has replaced the cloak and the ‘tweet’ has replaced the dagger.
What you said. Your best yet.
HEAR! HEAR! batb, splendid mini essay!
BOOM.
Excellent snapback, Kate.
Thanks, guys. I’m taking a bow! 😉
I’m sick and tired of the media party, their incestuous back-patting and coddling of their kind. ‘Talk about exclusion and marginalization of the rest of us. I know, I know, we’re mere plebs …
It appears that there’s half a degree of separation amongst the members of the Liberal/Media cabal. ‘Too close for comfort.
batb, you’re beautiful when you’re angry! Great post. Thank you.
There is no reason to be nice to Andrew Coyne. What he gives should be returned to him tenfold.
In true Liberal fashion Mr. Coyne wants a ‘separate but equal’ Twitter. Yeah, Coyne, make sure everyone is ‘equal’, just not anywhere in your immediate vicinity, right?
“socialist conservative” ? No such animal JaRED. Just another commie spinning prop phrase for neo-con.
Well said batb. Why can’t there be more teachers like you? Nevermind. Rhetorical question.
Second that motion.
Batb, this type of wilfully disingenuous excuse-making on behalf of the anointed one seems to be job #1 of the “Laurentian elite” journalists in the last few months. This morning Kady O’Malley tweeted a defence of Justin Trudeau’s “analysis”, saying “I don’t know anyone who honestly believes wondering why someone would do something awful is *in any way* a defence of that awful thing.”
Well, in the context of torture-rape murders or the large-scale deliberate mass-slaughter of random innocents, asking “why would someone ever do something like that?” is a common rhetorical question, a rational and sane statement, in effect, that that some things are so unfathomably evil and unjustifiable as to forever be completely incomprehensible to decent people everywhere. But Justin Trudeau took the opposite tack: he proffered up prog-speak-shrouded semi-justifications for the bombers’s actions, which he suggested were a result of “marginalization” and “exclusion.”
This suggestion, that the bombers’ actions are sort of understandable because of how they’ve been treated by “us” implies a collective fault that and lands on *our* backs — on the backs of every decent person, Muslim, Christian, or atheist — who would never murder and maim innocent people.
Such twee “analysis”, which invokes useless prog-speak buzzwords like “marginalization” while completely avoiding phrases like, oh, I don’t know, “radical Islam”, is just another example of progressives’ self-laudatory, highly-developed post-colonial superiority (they’re unfortunates, we’re not) masquerading as “compassion.”
That kind of twaddle will always be less than useless in dealing with mass-murdering goons, albeit it’s great for the purpose of advancing public displays of the progs’ putative superiority.
Too bad Justin Trudeau, and various journos, can’t just “preen in peace.”
That’s a lot like the comments I hear from people who are sick and tired of their homes being phoned by others who misdial a single digit and think they’re getting the local bar, restaurant, etc.: “Why can’t there be separate networks for businesses and residences?”
Duh. Normally, Andrew’s a lot smarter than this.
When Liberals examine ‘root causes’ we end up with healing circles.
Nice style. You sure got his goat.
The truth hurts
This is ridiculous,
Right wings are the one who do root causes in a very blunt and direct way:
IT’S ISLAM, IT’S MUSLIMS.
Just read Ezra Moron Levant column. It is full of root causes analysis.
Forgive me, but I missed your alternative explanation. Would you mind repeating it, please? I’m sure you have one, of course, considering all the leisure time you have to contemplate these subjects, on account of that big fat cheque you get every year from, er, you know who…
Q NDPiss
“root cause” is simply camo for “actual cause”…try keeping up would yah???
I used to enjoy this persons columns in the NatPoo., but they have both changed, and, I am no longer interested in what they have to say. The “Blatch” was always an enjoyable read, but I don’t even know if she is still there since her return from Globe. I always enjoyed my “huge” Natpo on the weekends when they first started the paper. What a shame.
So what is your root cause? Not enough “support” from the ROC? Not feeling the “love”?
Like every sane and rational person on earth, Ezra merely notes the root reasons — the real ones — instead of positing smug, self-laudatory root excuses.
What’s the general Québécois attitude towards immigrants, btw?
Well it’s pretty obvious why my sister was murdered, it’s because she was there. If she wasn’t there she would not have been harmed. So it is her fault.
