Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch, and Witness all ye who come here: the mother of all smack-downs….
I say we send Mr. Daniel Hannan an immigration application.
And at no extra cost – another installment of Not Waiting For The Asteroid…
The internet has changed politics – changed it utterly and forever. Twenty-four hours ago, I made a three-minute speech in the European Parliament, aimed at Gordon Brown. I tipped off the BBC and some of the newspaper correspondents but, unsurprisingly, they ignored me: I am, after all, simply a backbench MEP.
When I woke up this morning, my phone was clogged with texts, my email inbox with messages. Overnight, the YouTube clip of my remarks had attracted over 36,000 hits. By today, it was the most watched video in Britain.
How did it happen, in the absence of any media coverage? The answer is that political reporters no longer get to decide what’s news. The days when a minister gave briefings to a dozen lobby correspondents, and thereby dictated the next day’s headlines, are over.
This guy’s going to be Prime Minister some day.
Hopefully, ours.

Harper was asked what Politician he most admired he remarked Tony Blair, that’s why I don’t like him. Blaire set England down the socialist path and sold out the people for the immigrant vote, and Brown is his lap dog. Obama also admires Blaire and Brown need I say more? Oh and Iggy admires Blaire and Brown see where I’m going with this issue, none of the above seems to place any value on freedom or liberty.
Great smackdown. The truth sort of hurts, eh. Kind of reminds me of some old school RSMs (Regimental Sargent Major). These guys could dress you down, with or without profanity, to such an extent that you would feel lower than whale turds. They could ream you a new orifice and yet never repeat a line or stop for an “aaaahhh” teleprompter frozen moment.
If PM Brown was a tory I imagine the MSM would have had him for lunch already. They would have in Canada.
btw, Does this mean Prime minister Brown will have to give up his DVD collection? /sarc
Hannan does not blink his eyes … a very impressive package.
While the British parliament has some entertaining traditions, a good speech does not make a thoughtful or ethical leader, e. g., BO or Clinton. It also doesn’t telegraph whether that individual is capable of accomplishing anything. Hannan’s speech is entertaining but at the end of the day, what has he done for the UK in the past? What has he done recently? Where is his strategy and how will he implement? It’s nothing but words, folks. Actions, on the other hand…
How did he keep a straight face through that entire ass kicking? Brilliant.
As a patriotic American I can only say this:
I’ll fight you for him!
I’d just like to have a few like him in Congress — think we could clone him? (I can share if push comes to shove).
Kathy Shaidle you would go and spoil our fun with a dose of reality 🙂
Still, even if what you say is true, it was a delightful video to watch.
How refreshing it is to see Ms. Shaidle – especially when she drops in to state fact.
It’s a shame most Canadians are statists.
But hey, ‘Harper’s our guy’ – right?
Or, has he sold you down the river for nothing?
Just over 730,000 viewings as of this morning
It is a good speech and someone needed to tell the deluded fool that he has wrecked the British economy. However the speech was made at the European parliament. Brown would never get a roasting like this in Britain because Labour would pack the benches with jeering monkeys and the speaker of the house a Glaswegian turd by the name of Michael Martin is a Labour MP. When Cameron recently called Brown a phoney he was forced to withdraw the remark by the speaker.
Hannan has stated he preferred BHO to McCain and I think he will live to regret that choice, but everyone makes mistakes. Hannan and another good Conservative MP Douglas Carswell have written a book Twelve months to renew Britain. I can’t see Brown getting himself a copy. The good news is that Brown has little over a year in office and the way the polls are heading the socialists will be consigned to the wilderness for decades. Mind you if I was a Tory I wouldn’t want to inherit that mess. As was pointed out they need another Maggie but I don’t see anyone on the horizon who could fill her shoes.
Remember folks, he may have now woken up to Obama’s Gordon Brown Like Agenda and dramatically changed his tuned. The same has happened to many pundits of the NY Times!
“I say we send Mr. Daniel Hannan an immigration application.”
NO! We need to forge for him a US Birth Certificate.
For great British oration check out YouTube and type in “Margaret Thatcher on Socialism”.
We can only hope that there is another Iron Lady that will speak common sence to western civiliazation
You find hope where you can take it.
Not to be ignored early signs of the new power:
Georgia’s Rose Revolution, Ukraine’s Orange Revolution. circa. 1999 – 2003. Both solid indicators, back then, about the power of the internet and little cel. phones that take and transmit images.
Muggings / muggers not to be admired:
In my eyes, Hannan looses credibility because of his choice of venue for his screed. Reminds me of Dion et al traveling around the world to publicly denounce our elected gov’t. reps.
To take the partisan political battles of one’s nation onto an international stage is reprehensible, reducing the nation’s stature world wide.
The video seems to indicate that Hannan is *behind* Brown, *above* Brown, and has the added advantage that Brown *cannot* respond, defend.
Hannan is not a hero to me. Say these thing to Brown, face to face, great. Otherwise – he’s no more than a superbly articulate thug, and possibly a coward, to boot.

I saw the video on YouTube a few days back. I was gobsmacked. He spoke so eloquently. But will Gordon Brown do anything about it? or was it just a case that they went through one ear and out the other?
Our economy is in a very dire state, and something needs to be done about it.
I was gobsmacked when I heard this on Youtube the other day. I guess you call it freedom of speech!
“In my eyes, Hannan looses credibility because of his choice of venue for his screed.”
Hannan is an MEP. The European Parliament (and the pages of the Telegraph) is the venue in which he presently operates. Where else would you have had him say these things instead?
Your comments are a classic example of making the perfect the enemy of the good. Hannan would be light-years and orders of magnitude of improvement over the fuzzy PC “Blue Labour” BS of David Cameron and the present clique running the Tory Party.
