Reader Tips

Good evening, welcome to the Wednesday edition of SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight’s musical selection examines one of the more difficult questions for any civilized society, namely, what is an appropriate punishment for a flap-mouthed, mammering, rump-fed ratsbane? What manner of recompense should we extract from such a hedge-born, bat-fouling puttock? Should he be keelhauled by his uncles, or scarped on his boil? Should we put him in the scupper with the hose-pipe on him, or flack him on the grummies with a wrought-iron lunger?
There are no easy answers. Perhaps it’s best to defer here to legendary nautical hardbody-turned songwriter Rambling Syd Rumpo, aka Kenneth Williams, as he asks the enduring musical question “What Should We Do With A Drunken Nurker?” in part one of his rollicking Sea Shanty Medley.
Your Reader tips are, as always, forcefully welcomed.

Fifteen Men (Bottle of Rum) – Original Version
Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun’s pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey’s throat was marked belike
    It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o’day in a boozing ken
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
    Verse 2.
Fifteen men of the whole ship’s list
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Dead and be damned and the rest gone whist!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
The skipper lay with his nob in gore
Where the scullion’s axe his cheek had shore
And the scullion he was stabbed four times four
And there they lay, and the soggy skies
    Dripped down in up-staring eyes
In murk sunset and foul sunrise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
    Verse 3.
Fifteen men of ’em stiff and stark
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Ten of the crew had the murder mark!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers’ glut with a rotting red
And there they lay, aye, damn my eyes
    All lookouts clapped on paradise
    All souls bound just contrarywise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
    Verse 4.
Fifteen men of ’em good and true
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Ev’ry man jack could ha’ sailed with Old Pew,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
There was chest on chest of Spanish gold
With a ton of plate in the middle hold
And the cabins riot of stuff untold,
And they lay there that took the plum
With sightless glare and their lips struck dumb
While we shared all by the rule of thumb,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
    Verse 5.
More was seen through a sternlight screen…
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Chartings undoubt where a woman had been
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
‘Twas a flimsy shift on a bunker cot
With a dirk slit sheer through the bosom spot
And the lace stiff dry in a purplish blot
Oh was she wench or some shudderin’ maid
That dared the knife and took the blade
By God! she had stuff for a plucky jade
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
    Verse 6.
Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
We wrapped ’em all in a mains’l tight
With twice ten turns of a hawser’s bight
And we heaved ’em over and out of sight,
    With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-you-well
And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell
Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
    Cheers

  3. Criminal Complaint Filed Against Obama Re Eligibility Fraud
    http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/03/criminal-complaint-filed-against-obama.html

An ex-military officer has raised the stakes in the ongoing dispute over Barack Obama’s eligibility to be president, filing a criminal complaint against the “imposter” with the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
    (…)
In his complaint addressed to Obama via U.S Attorney Russell Dedrick and Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Schmutzer, Eastern District, Tennessee, Fitzpatrick wrote: “I have observed and extensively recorded invidious attacks by military-political aristocrats against the Constitution for twenty years.
“Now you have broken in and entered the White House by force of contrivance, concealment, conceit, dissembling, and deceit. Posing as an impostor president and commander in chief you have stripped civilian command and control over the military establishment.”
He cited the deployment of “U.S. Army active duty combat troops into the small civilian community of Samson, Ala.,” and said, “We come now to this reckoning. I accuse you and your military-political criminal assistants of TREASON. I name you and your military criminal associates as traitors. Your criminal ascension manifests a clear and present danger. You fundamentally changed our form of government. The Constitution no longer works.
“I identify you as a foreign born domestic enemy,” he wrote.

“Freeman Dyson, Revered Scientist, Becomes Global-Warming Heretic
FOR MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY the eminent physicist Freeman Dyson has quietly resided in Princeton, N.J., on the wooded former farmland that is home to his employer, the Institute for Advanced Study, this country’s most rarefied community of scholars.
Lately, however, since coming “out of the closet as far as global warming is concerned,” as Dyson sometimes puts it, there has been noise all around him. Chat rooms, Web threads, editors’ letter boxes and Dyson’s own e-mail queue resonate with a thermal current of invective in which Dyson has discovered himself variously described as “a pompous twit,” “a blowhard,” “a cesspool of misinformation,” “an old coot riding into the sunset” and, perhaps inevitably, “a mad scientist.”
Dyson had proposed that whatever inflammations the climate was experiencing might be a good thing because carbon dioxide helps plants of all kinds grow. Then he added the caveat that if CO2 levels soared too high, they could be soothed by the mass cultivation of specially bred “carbon-eating trees,” whereupon the University of Chicago law professor Eric Posner looked through the thick grove of honorary degrees Dyson has been awarded — there are 21 from universities like Georgetown, Princeton and Oxford — and suggested that “perhaps trees can also be designed so that they can give directions to lost hikers.” Dyson’s son, George, a technology historian, says his father’s views have cooled friendships, while many others have concluded that time has cost Dyson something else. There is the suspicion that, at age 85, a great scientist of the 20th century is no longer just far out, he is far gone — out of his beautiful mind.”

What may trouble Dyson most about climate change are the experts.
Experts are, he thinks, too often crippled by the conventional wisdom they create, leading to the belief that “they know it all.”
The men he most admires tend to be what he calls “amateurs,” inventive spirits of uncredentialed brilliance like Bernhard Schmidt, an eccentric one-armed alcoholic telescope-lens designer; Milton Humason, a janitor at Mount Wilson Observatory in California whose native scientific aptitude was such that he was promoted to staff astronomer; and especially Darwin, who, Dyson says, “was really an amateur and beat the professionals at their own game.”

“Grit’s Ignatieff dropped ball on accountability
If for no other reason than to convince Canadians that his party has learned the importance of accountability, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff should have shown more backbone regarding the Harper government employing a special fund to rush through $3 billion in stimulus spending.
However, the Liberal leader, who just three weeks ago blustered he wouldn’t be “writing a blank cheque on $3 billion (because) no Canadian would respect me if I did,” did precisely that on Tuesday by backing off to allow the government’s spending bill to pass.
After the Opposition was surprised in early March to discover that the government had included the special $3 billion fund in a spending estimates bill, Mr. Ignatieff lectured Prime Minister Stephen Harper that the Liberals wanted a full accounting of how the money would be spent before they’d back the government.
“We want accountability before we vote, and we want accountability after we vote. That is, once they spend it, we want them to put up on, say, a website where the heck the money’s going … This is how democracy works.”
Tuesday, all that highfalutin talk, along with the bravado had greatly dissipated,”

  15. Canadian Sentinel: I think the Obama birth certificate issue is not likely to go away. Presumably he has spent quite a lot of money in the courts to thwart those who are demanding to see the original — funny . . . you would have thought he would just produce the document. There are other “missing pieces” of Obama documentation, including college records — it is difficult to verify, for example, his attendance at Columbia. The almost complete absence of paper documentation on Obama is weird. Here’s a list of other things I picked off of a recent posting at a site called The Steady Drip:
    Soetoro adoption records –
    Punahou (Indonesia) School records –
    Passports records –
Any INS or port of entry documentation which may have been generated in his infancy or childhood –
Selective Service Registration (Released. But, is possibly an altered document) –
Harvard Law Review articles (None, maybe 1, not signed) –
University of Chicago scholarly articles (None) –
    Law practice client list –
Illinois State Senate records (locked up to prohibit public view) –
Illinois State Senate schedule (Lost, all other Illinois state senators’ records are intact) –
    Baptism certificate –
    Medical records –
One explanation for the university records being under lock and key is the possibility that Obama may have been admitted as a foreign student — this would be on the record. Various aliases also make things tricky.

Given the opportunity to say what’s really on their minds without going through the filter of the mainstream media, people “buzzed up” a series of questions that seemed to suggest broad interest in legalizing marijuana and taxing it.
In this moment of national economic crisis, the top four questions under the heading of “Financial security” concerned marijuana; on the budget, people voted up questions about marijuana to positions 1-4; marijuana was in the first and third positions under “jobs”; people boosted a plug for legalizing marijuana to number two under “health care reform.” And questions about decriminalizing pot occupied spots 1 and two under “green jobs and engery.”
It seems part of the popularity of marijuana questions was fueled by NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, which was urging it’s members to vote for questions supporting the legalization of cannabis.”

Barack Obama was always going to disappoint. When you promise almost everything to almost everybody—I’ll stop the fighting in Iraq but I’ll also keep going after al Qaeda there; I’ll make the economy grow more but I’ll spread the wealth around, and so on—you will inevitably let many people down. Human beings, even those who read fluently from teleprompters, simply cannot walk on water.

  20. Here’s a really thorough and interesting analysis of Obama’s presidency, his agenda and possible results.
    Obama’s Trojan Horse Disaster
“But few expected the wheels to come off the new administration so quickly. Just weeks into its existence, the Obama White House is in trouble. The US stock market has lost a quarter of its value since Obama’s election. While a Rasmussen poll in early March had his approval rating at 56 per cent, his net approval (the number of people who strongly approve of what he’s doing subtracted from the number who strongly disapprove) had contracted from 28 per cent the day after his inauguration to around 6 per cent for March—worse than Bush at the same time in his first term.”
And “Obama’s Trojan horse agenda—using the economic crisis as an excuse to advance radical social change in areas unrelated to returning growth to the economy—threatens to pull his government into ideological quicksand when all the public really want are jobs”.
The author, Bartle Bull, is obviously a Clinton, both Bill and Hillary, supporter, (i.e., not a Republican or even independent) and even suggests that Hillary might be unable to work in Obama’s agenda. An interesting analysis, if only because it probably represents a widespread concern in the Democratic camp.

“Blizzard To Affect Southern High Plains!
    Dave Holder
What the NWS out of Norman, Oklahoma called a historically significant, unprecedented late season blizzard is due to begin affecting parts of the southern High Plains tonight.
A very dynamic system is forecasted to eject into the central part of the country, causing the potential for severe weather and tornadoes in the warm sector. However, what will probably be remembered with this system is the massive snowstorm that will be created on the low’s backside. NWS offices out of Norman, Dodge City, and Amarillo (not to mention others) are sounding the alarm by putting up Winter Storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings! QPF amounts are showing snowfall totals to perhaps exceed 30+ inches in parts of SW Kansas! Temperatures will be cold enough through Western Oklahoma and deep into the South Texas Panhandle to support all snow by Friday evening.”
