Macdonald-Laurier Institute- The Ottawa Declaration on Canadian Journalism

Today the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) unveiled The Ottawa Declaration; a public call by some of Canada’s leading independent news and current affairs outlets for the media industry to reject the federal government’s payroll subsidies for journalism.

Since the 2019 federal budget, the government has established multiple programs for digital news outlets to subsidize their journalism. The majority of this support has taken the form of payroll subsidies totalling some $489 million in budgeted funds. Currently, most private digital news outlets can claim up to $30,000 in payroll subsidies for every journalist they employ. With the implementation of The Online News Act (C-18) payroll support could conceivably double and see half or more of the salaries of most journalists working in Canada for private digital news outlets paid for by government coordinated subsidies.

How the Woke Infiltrate

“Just say no”. An extremely good thread by James Lindsay;

Woke Marxists use a suite of techniques that are called “entryism” (the art of entering) to infiltrate institutions and take them over from within.

There are five basic stages in this model of infiltration:
1) Demand access.
2) Demand accommodation.
3) Demand a seat at the table (demand power).
4) Demand to run the table (demand controlling power).
5) Demand to run the room (demand total power).

It’s not just woke takeovers — the same dynamic is used to take over organizations by all kinds of actors.

Zerohedge; Project Veritas Implodes Six Months After Firing James O’Keefe

Project Veritas has reportedly imploded roughly six months after bad actors infiltrated the undercover whistleblower organization and orchestrated the ouster of founder James O’Keefe.

Earlier Thursday, the Project Veritas X account tweeted: “SOS Hannah Giles just fired us all,” before it was quickly deleted. […][

“Since James quit, the donations dried up…the donations never resumed,” one source told the Post Millennial, adding “The board were desperate to bring Hannah on board because they thought it would be cute but the problem is she’s a charlatan and a fraud. Everything she’s ever done has been a failure and she lied to everyone claiming she had all these donors she could bring in.”

James O’Keefe, meanwhile, can be found here at his new venture, O’Keefe Media Group (OMG).

New York Post- Biden’s new press secretary sparks conflict-of-interest concerns over relationship with CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux

The Haitian-born press pick gushed about her relationship with Malveaux in Jean-Pierre’s 2019 memoir, “Moving Forward.”

“Most of all, I want to say that every word of this book was written with love for my partner, Suzanne Malveaux, and our daughter, Soleil Malveaux Jean-Pierre. You are my life,” she wrote, also thanking “the Malveaux family.”

When You Lose The New York Times

Members of the Canadian obsolete media are upset over how the New York Times is covering what’s going on in Ottawa. For example…  It all works unless you actually look at the pictures or videos plastered all over the internet.

About to?

How’s about already has.

From the Globe and Mail

I don’t want to alarm you, but you might like to know that the federal government is about to take over the media.

Perhaps you will think I am exaggerating. But before the spring is out, based on its own announced timeline, there won’t be a patch of grass on the media landscape – broadcasting or newspapers, digital or analog, curated or user-generated – that the government does not either regulate or subsidize or both. If takeover is not the word, what is?

Broadcasting, of course, fell to the state long ago. Every minute of every hour of every day of what is broadcast on Canadian radio and television is overseen by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), with its sprawling mandate to protect the public from material that is harmful, degrading or American. Though since much of the content it scrutinizes, classifies and regulates in such detail has already been put through the bureaucratic wringer at the front end via various subsidy councils, it hardly seems worth the effort.

Social Disease

Stephen Crowder;

Dorsey, Zuckerberg and Co. have now taken an active role in deciding what information people should and should not have in these critical days leading up to the election.

Not everyone is thrilled.

Their attempts to cover up the Hunter Biden emails story last week backfired on them. They’re now getting all kinds of scrutiny. I wrote last Friday that the Senate Commerce Committee is going to have a hearing next week with Dorsey, Zuckerberg, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. They’re going to be exploring whether the protections granted tech companies under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act enable “big tech bad behavior.”

Many think Section 230 should no longer apply to Big Tech, including Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn…

Certain Republicans must now weigh the Big Cash they get from Big Tech against the certainty Big Tech will rig the next election against them.
