  1. So why are MY Auto insurance premiums skyrocketing in milquetoast boring suburbia? Oh yeah … because I live in CA … where 60% of our population drive with no Auto insurance. Si se puede.

  2. You know, maybe your should unpack your privilege and embrace diversity. Develop some ‘in-group preference’. If this was such a bad thing to do, well, the state would do something about it. They are not. So, it is not bad. So, stop your whining. One good insurance score and you can afford those jacked up premiums. Duh.

    1. Sorry about the state of the place, I was unpacking my privilege and it keeps crawling off under the furniture whenever I turn my back. I like the idea of in-group privilege, but I’d have to belong to a group first. Do the demons inside my head count? Will in-legion preference do? I want those jacked off premiums, they sound quite stimulating.

      1. Maybe in-shitload preference might be viable. On the other hand, I’ve reread your remarks and I’m a bit less enthused about the premiums.

  3. Things required to pull this off:

    1. A vehicle is stolen (by an associate of the scammer) from the area and is used to initiate the accident.
    2. Operator of stolen vehicle will disappear before the police arrive.
    3. Owner looking for the write off (vehicle total loss) will report the accident.
    4. Auto Body shop used to obtain an estimate will inflate parts and labor to assure a Total Loss (on retainer to the scammer)
    Here’s where it gets interesting:
    5. Most insurance carriers will send out an appraiser to assure it’s a Total Loss and not repairable. They’re going to show up in person on anything having moderate to severe damage. And, carriers will have their own favored shops they can trust to be honest on estimates. My guess is the scammer has the operating towing companies for certain police call locations on retainer as well which guarantees the vehicle is towed to their shop of choice (on retainer to scammer).

This is one of the primary fraud operations in India. It’s more prevalent than just about any other fraud. It’s so intricate that there are actual criminal organizations that do nothing but this. It’s harder in the West due to all the public access and traffic cameras. That’s why they use stolen vehicles to initiate the accident. They can make it look real.
