Great Moments In Socialism
“One mother told me when she went with her 18 month son to his medical checkup, and he was not in daycare. They said, ‘Oh, your son is not in daycare? But he has to go to daycare. He needs that and you need to work.’”

The Tolerant Left
[Razib] Khan examines how this transformation happened and concludes that the term “white” was once the proxy variable for attributes of powerful, rich and capable. He marshals tables to show that over the years, the relative success of Asians has pushed them into socio-economic and cultural categories formerly occupied by what used to be called white people. “But we don’t have a more complex narrative to go along with it” and so rather than ditching the old story of white supremacy and guilt culture took the easier path: they made the Asians white.
Flashback: the “W” word.

The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire
Presented without much commentary, because little is necessary: the only ratio that matters for the US economy, the change in US public debt ($359.1 billion) and US GDP ($142.4) in the first quarter, hit 2.52x and rising.
It takes $2.52 in new debt to increase $1 of GDP.

Meet the People’s Rights Amendment.
…it’s important to recognize that the proposal goes far beyond denying free speech rights to entities organized as corporations. It would deny them all other constitutional rights as well. Section 1 of the proposed amendment states that the “the rights protected by this Constitution” are limited to “the rights of natural persons.”
Notice that this is not limited to free speech rights or even to First Amendment rights generally. Section emphasizes that “People, person, or persons as used in this Constitution does not include corporations, limited liability companies or other corporate entities established by the laws of any state, the United States, or any foreign state.” Notice that this is not limited to for-profit corporations lobbying for their narrow self-interest. It applies to all corporations of any kind, including nonprofits, media corporations, churches, and others.
Thus, the PRA would deny all constitutional rights to all entities organized as corporations. If the Amendment passes, government would be free to search corporate-owned premises at will, restrict freedom of religion at houses of worship owned by corporate entities (which includes most churches), condemn corporate-owned property for private uses and without paying compensation…

“NSIDC Arctic sea ice extent touches the normal line”
There was a lot of controversy leading up to this moment, as we covered previously on WUWT where NSIDC put a new trailing average algorithm online with no notice, and bungled the climatology in the process, needing a fix. As has been the case before when NSIDC data goes wonky it was those bloggers of “breathtaking ignorance” who spotted the issue before NSIDC did and brought it to their attention.

The girl who couldn’t say no…
Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives – for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.
From the comments – Can only imagine the “rape awareness” posters at Egyptian universities: “No means I’m still alive”
And because there are days when I just can’t help myself….

College students held demonstrations in several U.S. cities on Wednesday to mark the day total U.S. student loan debt was expected to reach $1 trillion, with some burning student loan documents and others demanding a right to “debt-free degrees.”

Elections Liberal
For the last three federal campaigns, Elections Canada has hired the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) to target select ridings with phone calls aimed at boosting the native vote.
The documents show that Elections Canada paid the AFN $50,000 during the last election to set up call centres, read from prepared scripts and answer questions on voting.
Elections Canada describes the contract as part of a “voter education and information” program that has been ongoing with AFN since 2005.
Amidst the claims and counterclaims in the “robocall” controversy in the last election, Elections Canada has been definitive in saying it did not call voters in the days leading up to the 2011 vote.

Ratings agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has revised its outlook for Ontario’s economy. It had been projecting Ontario’s outlook as “stable.” On Wednesday, the day after Liberal minority government passed its budget with the help of the New Democrats (who politely abstained), the ratings giant announced that they now consider Ontario’s outlook to be “negative.”

Y2Kyoto: Rise Of The Green Reich
Not a minute too soon, the Department of Homeland Security has announced that it is creating “environmental justice” units that will be empowered to oversee regulations in conjunction with local governments throughout the country. The framework for the Environmental Justice Working Group includes eleven federal government agencies, including the TSA, the Secret Service and FEMA. Go big or go home, right?
“Environmental justice” describes the commitment of the Federal Government, through its policies, programs, and activities, to avoid placing disproportionately high and adverse effects on the human health and environment of minority or low-income populations. As described in the 2010 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review (QHSR), our Nation’s vision of homeland security is a homeland safe and secure, resilient against terrorism and other hazards, and where American interests and aspirations and the American way of life can thrive. In seeking to fulfill this vision, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aspires to avoid burdening minority and low-income populations with a disproportionate share of any adverse human health or environmental risks associated with our efforts to secure the Nation. DHS joins with other departments and agencies to appropriately include environmental justice practices in our larger mission efforts involving federal law enforcement and emergency response activities.
Comforting.
