  1. The angles of the red lines across the circles being all different weirds me out more than the sign.. Put some effort in, dude!

  2. It is Stelmach’s unknown twin from the Parkland Institute.
All by him self because the fascists from the Pembina Institute slept in.

  3. Looks like ACORN-Canada is already out there smearing and demonizing… I betcha Warren K. made the sign for the useful idiot in the picture.
Time to plan a sting operation against ACORN-Canada. And against CAIR-Canada. Hey, why not against the Liberal Party!

  4. In a way he’s right about the hate part…before I saw his picture in this story I didn’t know he existed, and now that he’s forced himself into my consciousness, I find myself hating him.

  5. I think we’re supposed to be ‘defending to the death’ here, his right to freedom of speech; ESPECIALLY if we don’t exactly agree with him.
I’m sort of curious just what his particular saddle-burr is (?)…

  6. I’m an idiot – I thought it was 3 words, Wild Rose Alliance, not the two word Wildrose Alliance. I guess our friend in the photo doesn’t have anything against Western Australia after all.

  7. The blogger Kate links to gets into a pissing match with the sign-guy about which one is queerer. Ugh. You should warn us Kate

  8. I don’t have anything against Western Australia either… although I don’t believe I could drink half as much beer as they do. That’s no reason for me to hate them, on the contrary, that is a shining light onto mankind.
Why is the protester wearing all white or near white? It bothers me that his red strikethroughs are out of phase, although that proves he isn’t in the “astroturf” crowd, obviously his sign is straight from his kitchen table.
Arty @ 12.31, I don’t think Shel is gay, having read through his info at his blog, he doesn’t see any place for government intervention in the business of marriage, but did seem to enjoy making the protester nervous… or angry? pushing his buttons? it’s all the same. I could be wrong, but I think it’s a non-issue.

  9. Libertarian – the term Danielle has used to describe her political philosophy – is also the one that Stephen Harper uses for himself. It is i suspect the term that a large percentage of readers of this site would use on themselves. And it is a term I am certain that many canadians would adhere to if they were aware of its meaning. Sadly, the level of political awareness is much lower than the US and elsewhere due in part to the fact that we do not have to register our affiliation prior to voting.
Stephen harper’s libertarian leanings have not hurt him poliically. I wonder if danielle’s will. To be sure, right out of the box, the premiers office will harp on it. The risk for the premier is that a very large portion- maybe more than half – are philosophically libertarian and a very vocal percentage of those who voted for the PCs are as well. Stelmach had better be careful what he says between now and his leadership vote on nov 7 – he could get a very rude surprise.
(it should also be noted that there is significant pressure on many PC mlas to cross the floor after nov 7 if stelmach is reaffirmed – many even in their own electoral district boards are applying pressure)

  10. Yeah, the usual with the delusional and deranged Left: Christians are lumped in with the KKK, ‘like our “ministries” are the same …
When was the last time the KKK ran a soup kitchen or a clothing depot for people, regardless of their race or religion, no questions asked? When was the last time the KKK opened a food bank or an in-from-the-heat/cold program?
‘But, right: Christians and the KKK have a lot (of hate) in common.
Who IS this moron? Maybe the CBC reporter, BCF, or maybe his other brother moron …

  11. There was a march of zombies from Gazebo Park (NDP Central) to the Legislature on Friday night. I wonder if that was a pre-emptive strike against the Wild Rose Alliance.

  12. I was just listening to the mp3s at Danielle Smith’s site, and all I can say is, what on earth are those strange sounds coming out of her mouth? Regardless of the subject matter – property rights, firearms policy, excessive government, or anything else – she comes across as principled, well-grounded, articulate and highly informed. I’m sorry, but that’s just weird. What we want in a premier is a feckless, shaky, inarticulate, forlorn, disoriented spendthrift in gumboots, and Ed Stelmach just happens to fit the bill perfectly.
    Nice try, Ms. Smith.

  13. I cruised the comments at the G&M and CBC after Danielle won. I know, it’s bad for my blood pressure, but I looked at the entertainment value of doing so. What’s a guy supposed to do Saturday night? TV sucks Saturday night and I refuse to watch a bunch of punk millionaires skate around whacking each other with sticks.
So, the usual suspects were out in force, the usual stereotypes expressed and well, just WOW!
I’m now just such a proud contributing Canadian after reading that bilge! I knew better, but it was like a moth to a candle.
    Let the flame wars begin!

  14. It seems the more people hear Ed speak the less popular he becomes. I suspect Danielle will have the direct opposite effect.

  15. jt, I know, it shocks me something fierce when I read garbage of that CBC or G&M kind, the “Albertans (or anyone who’s not a Liberal shill from the Golden Horseshoe) are scaaaaary redneck bible-thumping uneducated wife-beating neanderthals” vitriol.
I have even seen it in my family in southern ON, as well as some of my more left-leaning friends from all across the country. You should see the shocked looks and fast backpedaling when I challenge them with “well, I’m a westerner, a conservative, I like Albertans a lot and have an American girlfriend.” They go “oh Johann, you’re an exception.”
Anyhow, back on topic–it’ll be interesting to see how Danielle Smith changes the landscape of Alberta politics, as it seems the PCs in that province have gotten stale (or is that Stel?) Next premier? I wouldn’t count her out, but it might take 2 elections before that happens.

  16. “I cruised the comments at the G&M and CBC after Danielle won. I know, it’s bad for my blood pressure, but I looked at the entertainment value of doing so. Yeah, all of a sudden universal suffrage doesn’t sound like such a hot idea anymore.

  17. You know, the picket sign exposes Christians to hatred and contempt, the way it pejorates the cross within the word “hate”.
    Obviously another Christian-hating, ultra-far-leftwing bigot.
So let’s expose HIM to “hatred and contempt”. Let’s make fun of him. Let’s call him a teabagger, an Astroturfer, a mobster, a Nazi, a racist, etc…

  18. Johann: I’m born and raised in Ontario, lived in Quebec and moved to Alberta, 35 years ago. I hear all that you mentioned from mine and my Quebec born wife’s relatives, too. We don’t answer the phone when they call, now. Ever.
I am a proud, card carrying WRA member and I voted for this lady and donated to her leadership efforts. Think of it, though: a “far right”, neanderthal, religious, red neck Party (according to the drivel I read) elects a female leader in overwhelming numbers, 6295/1905, in Alberta. Alberta’s Sarah Palin. Watch out Big Government.
People who post on CBC or G&M should get out more.

  19. Re the sign; anyone want to take a shot at what exactly “Canadian Values” is supposed to mean (in the context he’s using it)? I don’t remember ever being polled on MY opinions…

  20. I’m assuming the hundreds of other protesters were behind those bushes just to the back of the pictured protest leader.
    Hundreds,if not thousands!

  21. Good Job Danielle! and a great job she will do.
The guy with the sign has no idea of what freedom and choice is all about, and he oozes with hypocrisy

  22. I realy hope someone is explaining the “not withstanding” clause to her,and how it should be the first thing said,in the legislature, each and everytime some a**hole from the ROC(both Fed and Prov)try some crap to screw over Alberta again and some more. First on the list…so called equalization down the sh1tter.Then ANYTHING with the word green/AGW/climate change, etc in it.

  23. she comes across as principled, well-grounded, articulate and highly informed.
So we can expect all of those rural conservative welfare bums to be disembarking
from the public gravy train? Talk is cheap.

  24. I wonder if this guy has ever protested real radicals that hate such as Islamists that seek death to “Crusaders,” homosexuals and Israel. It is beyond me that hate is described as Christianity. The cross that he holds up was an instrument of death that was to silence the man that was the prince of peace. Apart from small idiotic groups that claim to be Baptist and live in Podunk, Kansas I know of no Christian that has ever preached hate, death and destruction. They are our neighbour and we have lived under the benefit of Christianity’s progresses that brought us freedoms, academic institutions, and a cultural mindset that can determine right from wrong. Christianities experssions have never been perfect but a lot better than Islam that openly states it wants to subjugate women and destroy western culture. That man is shamefully ignorant.

  25. Sure Danielle Smith is well-spoken, politically knowledgeable and intelligent but what about the really important qualifications:
    Is she a world traveler?
Does she have an Ivy League education?
    Is she MSM approved?
What was the last book she read?
    Is she religious?
Oh, did I hear someone say that she is a libertarian…never mind then,no need to answer the questions…she is obviously eeeevil and unCanadian. Destroy the right-wing nutter.
P.S. Her views on energy and property rights are a breath of fresh air. I love how she states her case without the usual conservative hesitation or, worse, apologizing for politically incorrect beliefs.

  26. ‘Tried to post this earlier and it got caught in the filter (?) I figure it was the K*K, spelled the proper way … not sure …
Yeah, the usual with the delusional and deranged Left: Christians are lumped in with the K*K, ‘like our “ministries” are the same …
When was the last time the K*K ran a soup kitchen or a clothing depot for people, regardless of their race or religion, no questions asked? When was the last time the K*K opened a food depot or an in-from-the-heat/cold program?
‘Right: Christians and the K*K have a lot (of hate) in common.
Who IS this jerk? Maybe the CBC reporter, BCF, or maybe his other brother jerk …

  27. Of course, silly me, I forgot about the admiration of China and other left-wing totalitarian governments. Then again, isn’t that covered under Ivy League education? I suppose we could ask Bob Rae or MI.

  28. From the source quoted, I gained the perspective that the Wild Rose Alliance is designed to be essentially a libertarian political party that does not welcome social conservatives.
If in fact this plays out in the next few months, social conservatives in Alberta will continue to face the choice of two relatively lukewarm options for their vote, since the Alberta PCs are hardly a hotbed of social conservatism either.
This is fine if that’s what the movers and shakers of the Wild Rose Alliance actually want, but sometimes I have to wonder if libertarians ever consider the implications of their moral neutrality on questions like definitions of marriage or pro-life concerns.
This is also not really the same “alliance” that existed when the federal CA party was operational.
Just some observations, I realize that the main purpose of conservative political activists is to shoot themselves in the foot as often as possible, then blame some bystanding liberal for their wounds.

  29. Peter,
At what point in time did you decide that the government was a moral authority?
Personally, I’ve always seen the government as a collection of incompetent morons and the best way to prevent them from messing up your life was to keep them as much out of your life as possible. If the government did not try to legislate morality through social conservative or social progressive legislation we would be far better off in general.

  30. We must do what we can to ensure that Ed gets a good approval rating on his leadership. The health of our Alberta democracy depends on it.

  31. Big trouble for Special Ed and his band of bunglers:
    1. The WA is approaching things with a winning formula (i.e. recognizing most Albertans are fiscal conservatives and fairly libertarian in social outlook)
    2. The WA has selected an articulate, bright, and telegenic woman to lead them.

  32. “Is Danielle Smith Canada’s Sarah Palin?”
I think the monicker “Alberta’s Iron Lady” is much more appropriate to aspire to. I’d take Maggie Thatcher’s record over Sarah Palin any day.

  33. This is awesome. LOL. I love seeing these losers making fools of themselves. As more and more people get their info off of the internet where (the tap is wide open) compared to the traditional MSM (where they control what comes out of the tap) more people begin seeing just how crazy these left wing morons are. 20 years ago global warming would have still been a believable theory…now only the loons still think it exists.
Stelmach is done…I don’t think it will take even one election to go by…Alberta usually swings to one party or another in huge numbers (and it’s always a right wing party). Even if Eddie tried to pull a pre-emptive early election I still think he would get slaughtered. He may as well slink back to the farm and start getting ready for spring seeding.

  34. Just yesterday I was talking to my neighbor about the city election candidate sign she had in her yard. I asked why she didn’t want to re-elect our present council member. She informed me that she wasn’t happy with his lack of action with the “poor people” she volunteered with. She went on to say that “if we don’t help them in the inner city they are going to end up living next to US!”…I didn’t bother asking her to explain any further.

  35. I was there, and saw this fellow. Didn’t talk to him because I knew it wouldn’t do any good.
The way to counter these people is to highlight policies. Isn’t that what politics is really about? What specific policy matches with the KKK? With radical conservatives? These guys play fast and loose with generalisations. Ask them for specifics.
As for social conservatives, I put this to them: you can argue that theft is the largest of the sins. Murder is the theft of life. Adultery is the theft of a spouse. False witness is the theft of someone’s reputation. Maybe the WRA should focus the theft of tax dollars, and the waste of these. This may be a small sin, but multiplied by the number of payers, makes it a huge social issue. I understand social conservatives concerns, but they need to understand that they can hold back the WRA and the possibility to address the most important social issue. We can’t control how people live their lives, but a party can and should control where public funds go. Responsible use of tax dollars should be the focus.

  36. Possibly semantics, but is the weirdo pictured promoting Christianity or is he drawing a line through the Christian cross attempting to censor it?…… I.E Christianity = HATE.
Hard to tell with the nuts, no?

  37. This Lady that became the Leader is a real firecracker. Smart, witty, & the press even likes her. I’m real happy she got the votes. She’s no fake Conservative either. She going for the kill. 41 Years of rule has left the weak tea Conservative party. A bunch of HRC loving socialists. With a taste for entitlement with lucre.
He tried to pass off a 4% cut in wages to him & Cabinet after a 34% increase in wages for a 17 billion debt. Than call for a 2 year wage freeze on everyone else. Good luck with that lol.
His goose just had his tail feathers shot off by a wee girl.

  38. “White after Labour Day?”
    -Speedy
That’s winter camo for Calgary…worn year round. 🙂

  39. Arty and Marc
for the record, no i’m not gay, though i have excellent taste in home decor (hah!).
the guy in the picture was too easy to mess with, though. i felt kinda bad about it.
