Bonus: Having lived in the heart of Tech Central (aka Silicon Valley), I became very aware of the rampant use of food delivery services. Never once did I use them, but younger techies seemed to live on them. This cartoon illustrates the madness.

    … both self-identify by career path
    … promote a lifestyle of sober, healthy, independent, and responsible adults
    … high expectations of self control along with the ability & freedom to trust but verify

    Good and honest virtues requiring not a police state, but heavy practice and trial, work having its own rewards.
    All while raising a family, in one’s own castle, without government help.

    1. Ironically … I am going to tie Robert’s cartoon about food delivery service and your astute observation about the shared values of Christianity and Capitalism together.

      I just suffered through a movie titled Good Fortune which is about a bumbling Angel (Keanu Reeves) and two men: a poor Indian schlub who is homeless trying to survive the food delivery gig economy (Aziz Ansari) and a fabulously wealthy ‘tech bro’ (Seth Rogan). Right Robert? All the Silicon Valley Tech Bro’s are paying $19.97 for a delivered ice coffee … cause they’re $Rich and don’t care. The Angel causes them to swap lives so that the “rich man becomes poor, and the poor man becomes rich” … didn’t Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd already make this movie? No … Trading Places was actually funny … this was dull and delivered a toxic, toxic, socio-political message at the end.

      So the film had a few laughs and who doesn’t like Aziz and Seth Rogan. But … while depicting the EXTREME differences between the filthy rich tech bro and lowly gig economy food delivery nobody … the film sought to make the most EXTREME idiotic contrast between “rich and poor”. At the end of the film … no real spoiler alert here … The tech bro, who has his filthy rich life restored to him proclaims he is going to $Pay all his gig worker employees a LOT more money. Why? Because he says … We are only EXTREMELY wealthy because of what we don’t give to the poor. What we don’t pay them … like we don’t pay them a $30.00/hr. minimum wage for squeezing ketchup on the machine made burger.

      The entire premise was that Rich people got 95% of the economic pie and that poor gig workers got the crust. That’s pretty rich coming from these three actors (and writer Aziz Ansari) … all filthy rich Hollywood elites. It was the politics of envy … the politics of Marxist Communism and Socialism on full display. Again with the filthy rich Socialists in this country, esp. Hollywood elites virtue signaling their solidarity with … the worker. It was a disgusting, false, and immoral ending to the film.

      Your films will go on my ‘to watch’ list as my mind and soul need to be cleansed from this contemporary (2025) Marxist … Atheist … film. Yeah … Angels … pointing out income inequality in Capitalist America … SMH and throwing up a little in my mouth.

      2. Which is why I no longer watch Hollywood movies – I have plenty to watch on BritBox on Prime Video.
        I loved the cartoon about the delivery of the iced coffee. I have posted previously, that in one of job incarnations, I worked for a large house cleaning company in Calgary (I rose to office manager in short order). Of the employees, only 2 had graduated high school (and I was able to teach them how to budget their money). The rest were constantly “broke” because they “needed” their Starbucks coffee (the company provided coffee in the mornings), they “needed” their cigarettes and crap lunches from 7-11; they “needed” their dope, tattoos and fake fingernails.
        Life is all about choices and capitalism is also about delayed gratification. I find it appalling that so many people are doing on-line betting as a guarantee to riches (NOT!)

  5. I was helping a buddy of mine with a painting job last week, and we decided to hit McDonald’s for a “quick” lunch, you know, McDonald’s being famous for – what’s the phrase? – “FAST FOOD”’! What a laugh. We placed our orders at the kiosk, and waited at a table for at least 15 minutes, and still no “fast food”. The place wasn’t even busy inside, and just a few cars in the drive-through lane. My buddy heads over to the counter to ask where our meals are, and nobody bothered come to the counter to even acknowledge his presence, let alone explain why our meals weren’t ready. Easily the worst fast food experience of our lives. So we headed across the street to the Arby’s and got served right away. By the way, there was a certain, um, “demographic” that was working there, although I’m sure it had nothing to do with the terrible service. lol.

    Remember the good old days when you would walk to the counter, actually talk to an actual human being, and your order would be ready in 10 seconds. Yeah, that hasn’t been the case for years. Fast food is no longer fast.

    Oh yeah, I’ve never used DoorDash or any of these other delivery service services and I never will.

    1. My sisters visited a year ago, left two store bought brioche buns in a bag. Those buns were still without mold when we tossed em this summer.
      I can’t go to Rotten Ronnies except for a bathroom break and maybe an obligatory coffee.
      Support a local restaurant if you can.

    2. I had a similar experience at Tim Horton’s yesterday. They were very quick, slick and efficient about taking my order and money, less so about delivering the product.

      Nor is it priced accordingly anymore. I can eat sit-down restaurant meals for very close to the same prices now.

  6. It’s a good cartoon, illustrating the madness of the pricing of delivery services, but why is the guy on the couch wearing a MAGA hat? Aren’t like 90% of the people ordering DoorDash all lazy effs, i.e., DEMOCRATS?

    2. What pisses me off the most is all the extra fees applied to air travel. A US sampling:

      Mandatory Government and Airport Taxes (U.S. Domestic & International)

      U.S. Excise Tax: 7.5% of the base fare for domestic flights and short-haul international (within 225-mile buffer of US/Canada/Mexico).
      U.S. International Transportation Tax: $23.40 for all flights arriving in or departing from the U.S., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Islands.
      Federal Segment Fee: $5.30 per flight segment within the continental United States.
      Passenger Facility Charge (PFC): Up to $4.50 per eligible airport segment, capped at $18 per one-way trip.
      September 11th Security Fee: $5.60 per one-way trip with a U.S. enplanement.
      International Fees: May include Customs User Fee ($6.97), Immigration Fee ($7.00), APHIS Fee ($3.83), and foreign departure taxes or carrier surcharges (YQ/YR) which can exceed $650 each way.

      Then of course airlines charge for checked luggage and some for carry-ons.

  7. LIV golf is on the verge of bankruptcy. I don’t watch or play golf but I had to chuckle at the comment “many players are owed guaranteed payments”.

    2. Anything to SHOVE IT in every remaining Christian’s face. A significant percentage of what motivates ALL leftists is Christian HATE. Hell … look at your own country and your “hate speech” laws targeting Christians who believe a male is a male and a female is a female.
