Anjali: of ancient Indian origin is a name that refers to “an offering or a gift”.
Without making accusations, I can’t help recalling how women were treated in what is now India. And, adding that behavior to a name suggesting “offering or gift”…and the arranged marriages of that time as well as the required subservience…well….pronunciation isn’t what dehumanizes her.
I’ll take the bet that her co-workers were playing up her bitter “Karen-like” attitude and calling her Un-Jolly.
