      The true atrocity here is that it might be cheaper for the gentleman to pay the Human Rights Tribunal fine than challenge them in open court. Legal fees to fight it could easily be a couple million bucks, and the plain truth is not much of a defense these days.

            A sinecure for bureaucrats who have friends in high places, but they’re too stupid to be of any actual use.

            Instituted as a sort of pre-judicial step because suing anyone in Canada is ridiculously expensive. As in, if your case is open and shut, and there is -no- question of where the guilt lies (like if they stole your car and there’s video of them do9ing it, AND they confessed, AND the cops nabbed them in the car) it’ll cost you $20K just to start the paperwork. Maybe $30-$40K to get a judgement all the way through.

            So they did this tribunal thing instead. Three guys sit and hear the case in a shirtsleeve environment, probably on a zoom call. Their decisions don’t have the force of law, because they’re not judges and it’s not a court. -However- they kind-of do have the force of law, because if you’re going to fight them you’re now fighting the government, whose pockets are bottomless. Oh, and their decisions are not -limited- by the law either. That’s how they can fine a guy $750,000 for having an opinion.

            This is how you make people do what you want without having to actually stick your neck out by passing legislation. Nice, eh?

6. Because the failed lawyers at the SCOC ruled that “non-criminal” matters are not protected by the Charter, these leftist kangaroo courts can get away with anything. This three-quarters of a million is a penalty, not a sentence so there is really nothing a court can rule.
