Repealed: President Trump is formally TERMINATING the Obama-era rules that forced car makers into putting the infamous “START-STOP” into vehicles
Repealed: President Trump is formally TERMINATING the Obama-era rules that forced car makers into putting the infamous “START-STOP” into vehicles
I so wish we had a Trump like leader in Canada, preferably federally, provincially and city mayors!
someone living in Medicine Hat, Alberta I certainly agree with you………1000%……….
WE NEED AN INDEPENDENT ALBERTA to FREE ourselves from Ottawa
Now just get congress to put it into law, so that those bad regulations can’t come back.
What’s the chance of that happening?
Somebody supposedly ran the numbers and that stop/start technology saves barely any gasoline. Of course it drives normies insane, so hopefully this move will increase his appeal with independents.
It destroys engines.
Bob
Butt it sells batteries!
If your car gets 40 miles per gallon while driving at 40 miles per hour, it is burning 1 gallon per hour. Imagine how much less it needs sitting at a stop light for 2 minutes? And consider trying to turn onto a busy road from a dead stop. You hit the gas – and you wait for the engine to start. Good riddens.
Immediately after starting my 2020 Honda CRV, I hit the disable button on the start/stop. It’s annoying and totally useless.
that is exactly what I do as well……….very easy solution instead of getting all IRATE about it…….it’s NO BIG DEAL
No big deal, but did anyone ask you if you wanted to spend the extra $800 on the car to include that feature?
…and you have to do it every time you start the car.
I drive a 2017 Kia. What is this anti-feature? I’ve never heard of it?
You may not have it.
New cars today are less and less appealing with every new release, which is why I love my 2014 Honda Accord more and more with each passing day.
Every new car has what is essentially an iPad stuck to the dashboard, and it’s the worst integrated design feature in all of automotive history. It’s a big part of the reason why I will not buy a new vehicle. They just look incredibly goofy.
My wife got in a fender bender and while the truck was in for a repair we got a courtesy pick up, one year old, fully loaded. Stupid thing drove us both crazy. It kept nagging us. “There’s icey roads, drive carefully.” “Construction coming up, be sure to slow down.” “You need to clear the frost on your windshield because the forward camera is blocked and automatic collision avoidance has been disabled.” If I want a talking nanny in my truck with me I’ll hire one. Spare me the talking nanny truck. I thought I would enjoy driving a new truck for a while but I couldn’t wait to get old reliable, no nag back.
It’s located directly behind the elastic band on your engine.
Fore or aft of the gerbil wheel?
According to the President’s statements yesterday, these regulations no longer apply to domestically produced vehicles including tractors and excavators. However, imports must still meet the regulations imposed since 2009 including Start/Stop.
We certainly can’t impose our own backwards, primitive ideas on foreign workers — their countries believe in enlightened climate saving philosophy and should be allowed to live their ideals in their works.
Cultural sensitivity after all.
Any American who agrees with them is free to choose; they’ll have to pay more in all likelihood, but one should feel free to pursue what is important to them.
Freedom to choose after all.
… free to choose vs freedom from choice,
the very essence between non-left & Left.
ADD
Freedom of religion and freedom from religion. What a concept!
A day in which you don’t bring up religion…what a concept!
By all means, keep going with it. It opens up a range of possibilities for discussion; perhaps at some time in the future.
After a disappointing two weeks of exposing lefty email pals of Epstein, the legacy media has already shifted gears. Lead stories (after Guthrie) are the hysterical demands of climate cultists. CBS Radio News has already announced there will be lawsuits against the EPA at federal, state and local levels.
Those who are concerned about CO2 are welcome to stop exhaling.
The usual lawfare from the usual suspects.
These will, of course, be unsuccessful, but RESISTANCE!
What a waste of resources by horrible people that can’t accept election results.
The start/stop feature shuts the engine off when you come to a complete stop at a stop sign or red light.
Hundreds of millions of dollars in starter redesign was required.
You have to shut off the “feature” everytime you start your vehicle. You cannot disable permanently.
What happens over time is excessive starter usage and engine wear. The engine starts multiple times a day with zero oil pressure decreasing the life of the engine. All to save a litre of gas a year.
Effin greeners.
Now, can we go to a shop and get it shut off permanently?
Oh, I see. My Kia has three driving modes – normal, “sport” and “green”. Turning sport mode on is like buying a new car (something to do with electronically controlled oxygen mix and shift timing). It defaults to normal mode and you can’t change that, but there are – *cough* – third-party aftermarket accessories that will default the car to sport mode. I have to assume some clever person has invented a disabler for this anti-feature.
There is a kit/patch cord available for F150s to bypass this annoying feature, instead of having to deactivate the feature every time one drives the truck.
My “old” vehicles (2000, 2005, 2018) do not have this buggy feature, damn, LOL.
Bob
That gadget already exists, and you plug it into your diagnostic port!
B.D. – Last year we were in Kauai and rented a Nissan Sentra. I learned that the auto shutoff did not trigger if you did not push the brake pedal down all the way. Still a pain.
I always turn it off.
So f*cking annoying and insulting.
They should have a “no phone looky-touchy” feature that activates a shock to the driver’s genitals.
Maybe they will allow it to be “off” as default when vehicles return to the dealership for maintenance. Never in Communist Canada, however.
Why? When they put giant iPhone touch screens on the dashboard … which are JUST as distracting as a handheld phone.
Our Honda Passport has this and other useless or annoying “ features”. Fortunately you can disable it but when you start the car it defaults to active. I have to press a button to deactivate it every time. Not difficult but annoying. It’s got to be hard on ignitions and batteries. Is this something that is always on in some vehicles?
So tell me Americanos…what’s it like to have a leader who gives a shit?
It’s like winning the lottery everyday. President Trump is leading the revolt against being governed by the racism cult and “feelings”.
Won’t lie; it feels rather good.
Like a warm puppy.

Our 24 GMC Denali has this garbage on it, shut it off every time when starting. When the apocalypse comes the my wheel preference will be my 1991 Dodge Cummins 4X4 !
Ah yes
The “you are too stupid to operate a motor vehicle” add ons
The last vehicle I traded in was a 370 Z with a manual 6 speed transmission (aka the millennial theft protection system)
It was due to the Mrs desire to have an SUV
Now I get to hear her discourse on the displeasure she feels for the numerous warnings and sounds emanating from the dash.
Ah the joys of nanny state
I love my manual and i will drive it and fix it till i die.
#metoo
The new car I bought a couple of years back had that VERY annoying stop-restart “feature.” I quickly tired of disabling it every time I started the car, and found that there were solutions available online, and even at Amazon. The price was about $50, but I would have gladly paid a lot more to be rid of the aggravation.
It was a simple little replacement for the OEM start-stop button. It has a tiny bit of circuitry built into it, to “remember” the start-stop status when the vehicle was last shut down. When you start up again, it automatically reverts to that previous status. If you for some reason want to use the start-stop feature, you just push the button and start-stop will be enabled until you push the button to disable it. I don’t think that I have reactivated the start-stop feature more than one time in the past two years.
EPA Director Lee Zeldin nailed it,
… “eliminating the Obama Switch”
The CRV has tons of annoying features. Not just the start/stop but also one where the brake stays on when you are stopped (at a light) and comes off when you hit the gas. It was designed for soccer moms stuck in traffic. I love my roadrunner. The only thing between the gas pedal and the engine is a metal rod. Use at your own risk.
I recently met with a grieving friend whose spouse had come to an early demise, which he believed was due to some sort of software glitch in the car he bought for her just before she asked for a divorce. As a car mechanic and computer hobbyist, he was very convincing. Admittedly, the large (very large) insurance payout was helping in his time of mourning. I can only hope that The Diversity which is Our Strength can perfect these computer devices to make our world a safer place.
I’m liking these “tips from Fenris” posts.
