With the Bloc Quebecois now falling into line with its ideological soulmates on the west coast, how much life is left in the Memorandum Of Understanding?
Blanchet offered his help to B.C. last week — seeing that the MOU was negotiated without the province’s input and offers to relax key climate policies such as the tanker ban — and Eby’s team and his quickly came into contact to coordinate a virtual meeting.
Blanchet said they quickly agreed that, on certain subjects, they were on the same page.

This ‘country’ is a joke! And people continue to supposedly vote for these clowns.
I’ve used the term before ledge consortium.
ledge = lib dip green block.
may be a different pile but its all the same stink.
Just run the pipelines south to the USA, let BC rot.
Also, cut off the jet fuel pipeline going to Vancouver international airport from Washington..
Ontario gets a lot of Canadian oil but it goes through the U.S. to get there. That line should be shut off too so Ontario gets to really bask in its fight against emissions as their economy grinds to a halt.
Blockade Quebec and BC of oil, gasoline and other products. The Feds are pussies, allowing their authority to be usurped by provinces and Indians. (Of course, this is Carney’s plan: “Hey, I tried but these others prevented me”).
Given that the Tanker Ban is a federal law, B.C. has no say nor Quebec. And it has nothing to do with stopping tankers going up and down the west coast. It’s a product of US NGOs lobbying and buying Indians and elected Jacobins and Bolsheviks into stranding Canadian Oil Sands.
The truth is, no province really has a say in linear projects that cross interprovincial or international boundaries. The feds have that sole jurisdiction…..the feds under Trudeau pretended otherwise and Carney has handed veto power to provinces even though he has no constitutional authority to do so.
I have believed from the signing that Smith knew how quickly this shit show would develop and she would never even get to the point where she would have to raise the carbon tax. It had to be done to show the “but you didn’t even try” crowd opposing Alberta independence that the Liberals will never allow Alberta to prosper from oil.
Misfit… exactly. She is two steps ahead of Carney. This was all theater intended to get a response from the Lib, Natives and even the APP. It worked… perfectly. Within a couple of months, she can say I tried and we are going to have a referendum or some other tactic. Support for independence is very soft in AB… no where near 50% and she needed some reactions from the usual suspects to start to move the needle towards sovereignty. The biggest loser eventually will be Lukasik as he will be counted with the Libs (which he is) and his movement will be shown to be the status quo, exactly what what has and is failing AB. We just need the boomers (and I’m one of them) to get rid of their fear and smugness which will only come by hitting their retirement nest hard, which the Libs are well on their way to doing!
I hope I am right
Yes. YES! Sadly some smart folks here had a knee jerk reaction claiming that Smith had sold out. I feel — and felt then — that your explanation is highly plausible.
But of course I too am a Misfit_Newf …. up to about 60 years ago.
If it weren’t for family I would be an ex-newf by now – but I will consider prairie with a bit of mountain if Alberta could pull the trigger.
L – How much life is left in the Memorandum of Notwithstanding?
There was no life in it to lose. It was a ruse.
The Bloc Québécois – started by a former PROGRESSIVE conservative – and the Parti Québécois are both just versions of the commie NDP. The only difference from the NDP is these entities are focused on grift for Québec.
Danielle Smith has been flawless in working to find a pipeline. She has an agreement that frontloads her commitments in exchange for a future promise.
And it appears that Canada is answering. Carney needs to step up before a betrayal becomes inevitable. Alberta will have its answer. The soul searching then begins.
Had an interesting conversation with a CPC donation chaser today. He asked me for a donation so Pierre could “fix” Canada. I said “Nah, been giving all my donations to separatists lately, Canada is done.” Him: “Yes, I’ve been hearing that from a lot of Albertans; well, not a lot, but some.” Hehe. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but I’m starting to think there might be more than the 30-35% number we’ve been told.
All this to say, huge thanks to Quebec et al for throwing in with BC. Help get the message out that Alberta is a subject of the REAL Canadians in Vancouver, montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
Now, if I Could make a humble suggestion to the APP. Let’s quit with using logic etc to appeal to Albertans why separation is important. All the logical thinkers are already on board. Subtle emotional manipulation (propaganda) is key to swaying the rest of the fence sitters and sentimental Canucks. Lots of advertisements about how Ottawa (as a proxy for the rest of Canada) is hurting innocent Albertan children and families and puppies and how much better things could be on our own. Scored with amazing music, beautiful people smiling, crying losing homes, starving, etc etc. Dredge up old crappy color film of the NEP in the 80s. They need to hire professionals that know what emotional buttons to push etc.
“If you actually say it louder, we’ve learned in the house of commons, if you repeat, you say it louder, that is your talking point, people will totally believe it.” Catherine “The Great” McKenna
The the biggest impediment to sovereignty of any kind in AB are the 4 clowns that represent the APP (OK…Modry isn’t too bad) The others, especially Rath will never get it across the finish line. They are a first class gong show. What the sovereignty movement needs is a real leader, a recognizable and respected face. Smith can’t do it, and the APP can’t do it. Quebec had Levesque and Parizeau, two leaders that could speak well and sway people. Calling Brad Wall… where are you? That is the kind of respected leader the movement really needs.
If you want emotional buttons to get pushed in favour of Alberta getting out of this abusive relationship, then just let Carney keep doing what he’s doing.
Everything he’s done so far is performance, which is only good for a moment, but never address the root of any issue.
The last guy got away with that crap because of his last name and a voter base that thought he was charming.
Carney has no such advantage and for that matter his liability is that he was advertised as an extremely competent manager that could accomplish great things.
The best before date has arrived for Carney, and the voters the liberals depend on are starting to go through the stages of grief, right now its denial.
By spring sentiment for getting out of confederation should favour Alberta, if it has not already.
