I’m suspicious about the impact of these measures for a few reasons: voluntary departures come with severance; government retirement plans often require funding out of general revenue so early retirement just means more losses to cover; many eliminated jobs are potential positions as opposed to actual ones, and the timeline is an entire decade.
He said the company will use “attrition first” to downsize from the roughly 62,000 people it employed at the end of last year.
The company expects to shed 16,000 employees through retirement or voluntary departures by 2030, with an additional 14,000 leaving by 2035.

Not surprised at all that the #LIbranos gov’t isn’t willing to take action with the unionized postal service.
They don’t want to upset the base, they’re like a deer in the headlights when it comes to taking hard decisions.
They run from the label of privatization, and remain steadfast in favor of all gov’t control.
* $billions …
They could probably get rid of the latest hires with relatively cheap severance. Quickly get rid of the last home delivery, go to 2 day per week group box delivery, and double the price of junk mail losing most of it in the process.
They will lose 30,000 and hire 45,000.
Just dump them now….tens of thousands of them….the Canadian economy will recover when the Ottawa economy falls. Get rid of more than you think you need to…..you can always hire back and then get good workers rather than union goof offs. At a point, more bureaucrats do more damage than good….we went past that level a long time ago.
Increase the federal swivel service by 40%, promise to cut it by 10%, except they won’t even achieve that.
They have their vetoes in place, in this case the public sector union, for pipelines, any native group, etc., etc.
These cynical collectivists know their corrupt interventionism is killing our standard of living, so they line up their excuses for inaction, incompetence and negligence like the aforementioned vetoes and of course, climate change.
If we can send billions and billions to Ukraine and more billions to other sh*tholes, how come everybody’s so excited about a few losses of Canada Post?
Why have a post office at all if we’re stripping out all the things that made it so valuable to people?
The public disservice unions have to be dealt with sooner or later and the longer it’s put off the more painful it’s going to be
OMG. Join the lineup to ruin Canada. Public unions, indians, leftists, immigrants, our liberal government! Bail while you can!
I’m in Mexico.
I wonder how many of the 16.000 are already not working, LTD, STD, other revised or limited working conditions, riding it out until they hit retirement. Which is likely well before 65.
I’m looking at the expired collective agreement…
ARTICLE 13 HOURS OF WORK (13.01 Normal Workday and Workweek)
The normal workday and workweek shall correspond to the time needed each day and each week for an employee to perform the work required on any route.
However, the normal workweek shall not exceed forty (40) hours on average, calculated over a two (2) week period. The normal workweek is five (5) days or less.
Yup, there it is… cut mail delivery to twice a week.
They should have cut home delivery to twice a week 10 years ago! Idiots!
No way, Bert!
I insist on getting my pizza and burger coupons at least 3 times per week,
I then have some stuff to add to my paper recycle bin,
That aside, our postal person delivers nothing most days.
I live in a strata across from the kiosk with 27 boxes.
Two old guys like to get their bills old school (I have talked to them)…the rest of us throw out coupons and realtor porn trying to convince us to sell our houses in the Okanagan.
Anyway, the chick that delivers stuff is cute and friendly, but my mailbox is still empty most days.
Canada Post is insolvent
It won’t matter what they do
I’m curious what all those CUPW members will do when it’s announced there is no longer a Canada Post?
Yeah, that’ll happen…never.
The Oakland (CA) Unified School District is trying to buy out all their “senior” (read: experienced) employees into early retirement.
https://oaklandside.org/2025/11/13/oakland-school-district-buyouts-budget-deficit-layoffs/
Yeah … desperate measures when your little school District is $100 M in debt. Don’t be silly. Don’t you dare ask how a school District goes $100 M in the hole. Racist! All those “special” contracts were for … the chillllll’ren. So now … it’s time to get rid of all your olllllld teachers. More LGBTQueer-mutant new hires at low starting salaries.
Why in hell wouldn’t the state government have limits on school board and municipal debt. Alberta limits what local governments can borrow and I suspect most places do.
The State had to take over the OUSD 25 years ago for 22 years … why? Because the school district was $ 100M in debt. And now just a few years later … they’re $100M in debt again.
Yes … we the taxpayers are being LOOTED by Socialist scum.
I was working for a large corporation that announced they were going to do some down sizing. Our supervisor reassured us not to worry it was going to be by “natural nutrition”.
We pondered if that meant they were going to starve us out.
The CFO of Canada post said it was insolvent recently, and yet they haven’t filed for bankruptcy yet. Probably because the board would lose their easy jobs. Every one of them should be fired.
