It’s not clear if Trump is just trolling, but this is sure to drive the wokest of the woke absolutely mad:

President Donald Trump is calling for the notorious prison and now historical landmark, Alcatraz, in San Francisco, California, to be rebuilt larger and reopened to house the country’s most ruthless and violent criminals.

Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post on Sunday evening.

“REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ!” the president said. “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering.

“When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm,” Trump continued, adding that it’s supposed to be this way. “No longer will we tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.”

On a positive note, given how much Democrats appear to LOVE the most violent rapists & murderers, placing these folks next door to their admirers is a match made in heaven!  Yet, amazingly, they’re not happy with this idea!  This is reminiscent of the ultra wealthy Martha’s Vineyard residents, with plenty of extra space in their mansions, yet ensured the illegal migrants were escorted off their precious island within 36 hours! One might come to the conclusion that “Woke Leftist” actually means “hypocrite”!!!

Finally, Kenji, as SDA’s de facto SF Bay correspondent, would you be open to weaving a red carpet for your new neighbors?

    1. Having been a tourist there … I must say any level of rehabilitation necessary for use as a modern prison would be highly cost prohibitive. It’s gonna take a boatload (or two) of Canadian tariff Loonies to pay for THAT epic a rebuild.

      Trump’s a builder-developer … he knows this … which leads me to believe this is just TROLLING the SF-Oakland shitholes. He’s a master of distraction. But NPR and PBS are running stories about the latest Trump outrage!

      2. Kenji, Bingo! This is master-class trolling. What Trump is pointing out is the need to isolate violent criminals from society. And there are lots of islands off the Atlantic or Pacific coasts where a high security prison can be built at far less cost and with far more room to expand as needed than bringing Alcatraz back from the dead.

        They killed this prison in 1963 for a reason. Those reasons are still valid.

  3. I’m old enough to remember when ‘Indians’ took over Alcatraz. That seizure was cheered and applauded, so what’s the big deal about Trump taking it over and returning it to use as a prison?

    And it should be noted that Queer State Sen. Scott Weiner … the man who eliminated single family zoning throughout the State as a means to increase housing … SHOULD be cheering the reestablishment of Alcatraz as a high density housing project. But alas Scott has pledged he’d try to queer the deal.

    2. That same group also “occupied” a site in Chicago. They were chased out to the suburbs, settled in a park not far from my house. Some small cabins were built, but it ended up your typical homeless encapment. Shit everywhere, burned half the trees for firewood. Panhandling for drug money… .
      I remember a big cleanup to make the park usable again when I was little.

    1. It would be cheaper to demo every single structure on Alcatraz and start over. So … yeah … it would cost WAY more than just claiming some land next door to the Obama mansion on Martha’s Vineyard and build a Supermax there. A LOT cheaper site prep.

  5. One of the main reasons why Alcatraz was shut down in the 1960s was due to high operating costs and the fact that the prison was in dire need of security upgrades and major concrete repairs due to salt water.

Yet somehow … all those structures on Angel Island, Sausalito, Yerba Buena island, the Golden Gate Bridge, SF-Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco waterfront … all the high rise buildings in the downtown, Chase Center on the piers, Oracle Park on the water – splash zone over the right field fence … all seem to manage maintenance in extreme salt water environments…

    Waterfront property. High density housing. No motor vehicles allowed. High security gated community.
    An opportunity to develop a diverse non-racist inclusive lifestyle.
    Historic property restored for fully modern conveniences. Long term and permanent living for all who qualify. All meals are included. Sports and recreation programs for all.

  14. Cost prohibitive in the extreme. The staff have to cross by boat or aircraft with every shift change. Then there’s the cost of shipping all supplies by air or boat.

    2. Everyone in the SF Bay has a ferry fetish. Why? Mass Transit. Unique mass transit! So kewl! But it makes no economic sense whatsoever. The maintenance and operating costs are all underwritten by gas taxes and bridge tolls. A few really wealthy virtue signalers take the ferry. No REAL people can be bothered.

      Where did the families of the guard staff live?
      At any given time, there were about 300 civilians living on Alcatraz that included both women and children. The primary living areas for families were Building #64, three apartment buildings, one large duplex, and four large wooden houses for senior officers. Families enjoyed their own bowling alley, small convenience store, and soda fountain shop for the younger island residents. Families did most of their shopping on the mainland since the prison boat made twelve scheduled runs to the Van Ness Street Pier each day. The Warden lived in a large house adjacent to the cell house and actually used inmates with good conduct records for cleaning and cooking.
