  1. Indeed.
And he actually knows the facts and the laws applicable to the issue.
    The journalists do not.

  2. Canada has one conservative politician.
Of course, there are no conservatives to vote for him.

    1. “This is a good interview

Yes…a good *softball* interview for Pierre Poilievre, who alluded to “retaliating” against US tariffs without specifying exactly how, and carefully avoided mentioning one of Trump’s major beefs with us that led to the imposition of tariffs in the first place: our Quebec diary cartel and their ‘supply management’ scam. There was also no mention that I could find of residential schools or gun bans, or Christine Anderson, or any other contentious issue that Poilievre has come down on the wrong side of…he was just allowed to talk about whatever he wanted to talk about, so it was not much of an ‘interview’ as such (more like an extended campaign ad).

He comes off better than Mark Carney…I’ll give him that.

      1. You complain about supply management, but I’ve noticed the price of eggs is considerably cheaper in Canada these days than in the US. Even though the price has come down recently, Zerohedge readers still report paying U$6/dozen or more, which is nearly C$9/dozen. I paid $3.89 at Shoppers on Saturday.

That’s because Canadian operators don’t need to run the gigantic farms US producers do, and thus when a cull is mandated because of illness, the impact is smaller. We also have fewer salmonella outbreaks related to eggs than in the US.

With dairy, the competitive, lowest-cost nature of the US market forces farmers to use artificial hormones to boost their dairy output. I would prefer not to drink hormone-laced milk, thank you very much.

Finally, the family cottage is in rural Quebec. I remember in the 60s that the farms all looked hardscrabble, the barns were falling down, and the tractors looked old and derelict. Today, the region is prosperous – the barns and silos are all proud and tall, the John Deere’s are all new, and they have the things city folk take for granted, like municipal water and sewers. No one seems to begrudge the financial millionaires the money they make from shuffling funds on a keyboard; why do we hate the farmers who actually get their hands and boots dirty, and grow the food we need? Do we have to force them into the bankers’ economy, where they will be whipsawed for the bankers’ benefit, not ours? Can’t we ensure that sector of our society remains in the hands of smaller concerns, and not big business?

Try buying cheese. Go ahead, defend the people who make our cheese cost THREE TIMES more than the Americans pay for theirs.

“That’s because Canadian operators don’t need to run the gigantic farms US producers do,”

Because their market is ten times larger than ours.

You fell for that, did you? There are NO ADDITIONAL hormones in American milk. The hormones given to the cows DO NOT end up in the milk, that’s a flat-out lie.

You mean the massive *corporate* farms that have driven all the small farmers out? Try opening up a brand new dairy farm….you can’t. You aren’t allowed…no one will sell you any “quota” to get started.
It’s an oligopoly, and you aren’t invited.

  3. Nice to hear someone saying Illegal Aliens instead of the mealy-mouthed “undocumented immigrants”.

A friend who worked in Saudi Arabia (30+ years ago) said that just by virtue of his not being a Saudi citizen, he could expect no rights. For example, if he were involved in a car accident where a Saudi man (because women couldn’t drive) was driving recklessly, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit my friend’s car head on, my friend would be found to be at fault, for the simple reason that my friend had no inherent right to be there. Maybe it’s different now, but he was very vigilant and careful to not get into any rhubarbs with a local.

  4. Yeah, it would be great Robert but that just isn’t going to happen. Canadians are a different breed of cat…born or indoctrinated with a heavy socialist gene that isn’t going anywhere or anytime soon. I’ve pretty much accepted it. Toronto 905’s voting schizophrenia and the Atlantic Provinces used to drive me nuts. Eff’em all.
If a politician plays hardball…”That’s american style politics and that’s not who we are”
Really? Which of course begs the question: WTF does that even mean???? Right up there with “Canadian values”.

  5. Didn’t watch the masterclass.
BUT has he ever munched an apple during an interview and practiced the art of Socratic dialogue? (what page of Trump’s playbook?)
Again, PP is about as conservative as is POSSIBLE in Canaduh.
Too TOO few people get this including many of our in house luminaries.

    1. “Again, PP is about as conservative as is POSSIBLE in Canaduh.”

I still want to believe that a *real* conservative will arise and be unafraid to speak truth and common sense to the Canadian public. Someone like Donald Trump, only less brash.

If not, though, that is just all the more reason to hasten the decline and fall of Canada. Until we elect a REAL conservative government we will continue the slide to economic oblivion; the Liberals won’t fix it and our ‘Conservatives’ are just Liberals in disguise. Get it over with…rip off the Bandaid and start the process now.
In a perfect world, the Canadian people would see what is happening to our country and vote to change it *before it is too late*…in reality they will probably have to realize some actual consequences first and feel some pain before they come to their senses.

      1. We were far FAR from economic oblivion under Harper whom most purists don’t see as a conservative. Budget surplus, dollar at par and above.

What has happened to us over 10 years is not the absence of a “real conservative” — rather we were taken down by a globalist fascist coup by the Carney-MEF puppet Truedope. Most of the West has.

I too pine for a real conservative; even better, a libertarian, an anarcho capitalist, a minarchist. But we’ll have to reach Argentinian depths before Milei before we would find ourselves on that path. We’re the frog in the gradually heated water.

        1. “We were far FAR from economic oblivion under Harper whom most purists don’t see as a conservative. Budget surplus, dollar at par and above. ”

How much debt did we pay down during his terms in office?

“I too pine for a real conservative; even better, a libertarian, an anarcho capitalist, a minarchist. But we’ll have to reach Argentinian depths before Milei before we would find ourselves on that path. We’re the frog in the gradually heated water.”

Agreed, but I would just like to hasten the process. Whatever it takes to shock people from their complacency.

      2. So let’s start with someone ” about as conservative as POSSIBLE in Canaduh” and try to bring people along gradually. If you give up, shut up. Let people you think fools wasting their time and effort on a hopeless effort waste their time and effort on a hopeless effort. Join the Liberal, NDP, or Green parties and be useless for their cause.

    2. You should watch all of it. He didn’t eat an apple during it but it was like he was eating prime rib….of ‘journalist’.

      1. Whoa, watched a few minutes.
Prime Rib of Journalist alright. Started as medium rare became extremely well done, inedible.

    1. Exactly!
Quibble: We occasionally get a mildly conservative CANDIDATE but not actual conservative governance. As you suggest, there’s just no real call for it in Canada. Like you, I’ve always said that there’s no conservative constituency in Canada.

      1. “Like you, I’ve always said that there’s no conservative constituency in Canada.”

When things get bad enough there will be.

        1. Agreed!
As Bob Dylan put it: “It’s not dark yet but it’s gettin’ there”.
