  1. An actual election would be a pleasant surprise, but with an unelected CEO sitting on top of Elections Canada with ties to the Liberal party, like every CEO before him, I doubt we’ve had a real election since before 1920.

    1. The Demarais family of Power Corp (well named) would say they have all been great. No one gets anywhere near power without their endorsement, or at worst tacit acceptance.

Even the Bronfmans don’t move without a nod.

    2. On the federal level. On the provincial level, the last honest election was the Alberta election of 1935.

    3. Elections Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of the liberal party, always has been

  2. There will be an election when through chicanery or otherwise, the Laurentian Elite retains power. They much prefer to rule in hell than serve in heaven. Not that Canada could be heaven, but it could at least regain tier 1 status with a good deal of hard work and government reduction.

  3. There might be a referendum on US statehood at some point. That poll might actually be worth taking part in.

For now, it goes without saying that honest elections don’t take place in countries where there’s any chance they might change anything. Least of all Canada.

    1. If the rest of Canada joins the States, Alberta and Saskatchewan will remain in Canada. Deal?

  4. I believe Canada is now a dictatership.

Surrender your car and truck horns, surrender your guns, and keep your mouth shut.

      1. Stewart, have to agree with you on this one. Some supposed conservative commenters around here are too stupid to know how to breathe.

        1. Pound sand muppet. Maybe, just maybe, PeeAir should start sounding conservative instead of a Liberal swamp creature.

      2. Hey stooge, without presence here, I vote right, always. It’s not my problem that Pepe has sounded exactly like a Liberal for the past few months.
Take it up with his short pants staff.
Jeez people have lost their fcking minds!

        1. It’s my fault. I was the one that started referring to Poilievre as “PP,” because I don’t trust him.
Having said that, if there’s any hope at all of resurrecting this sorry excuse for a country, it lies with a PP-majority result in the next election.
Still, we have to watch him like a hawk, and make sure he delivers on his promise to “Axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, stop the crime,” and make sure that the next conservative government actually defunds the CBC.
Personally, I will vote PPC, or spoil my ballot.

          1. @Cindy. Don’t put words in my mouth.
I’m voting PPC, because they need the support, and I know the riding I’m in right now is a safe conservative seat.
I don’t know how it was possible for you to completely misrepresent what I very clearly have said, but your reply of “duh” puts it all in the proper perspective.

  5. I think Marx the Carney will call for an election very soon after the leadership coronation. The Turd™ suggested there will be a “transition” to the new leadership, a hint that there may not be an abruptness to the change. (because Marx the Carney is new? I have no idea), implying that further lessons on governance may be in order for the new PM.

    BUT!

If we slide straight into a “we don’t need elections to govern” situation… all bets are off, it’s new territory.

    1. It can’t be that long. The government will have to pass a spending bill during April or May.

  6. If you care..

The best leader for Canada is the one who isn’t going to fight with Trump.. As I’m tired of hearing.. The tariffs are bad for both of us.. So figure it out like adults..

  7. No.
What matters is whether Alberta, Saskatchewan, and perhaps others will remain in Canada. This is the only game changer. The immature posturing over tariffs (while ignoring clear and justly defined paths of avoidance) will either crescendo or fizzle but the day to day month to month, years over years, decades over decades abuse of the western provinces is otherwise inexorable.
Today we witness the provinces of Canada behave as true post nation states. The USA has nothing to do with that. Left in the limbo of a prorogued parliament, a psuedo resigned prime minister, resigned finance minister, broken democratic process, and party biased (corrupted) national media, premiers are negotiating (or not) with the USA on behalf of their own provinces.
If there was ever a time where the western provinces actually have a way out, this is it. Because they are out. Wake up!
You are not leaving Canada. Canada left you.
Notify the King. New charter, new Governor General. Chop Chop or we’ll join the US.
    So….

  8. Not worried about an election or who wins.
    Why?
Because it’s a matter of whether Ottawa gets its act together and starts to actually fix what ails the country or stay with the status quo and let nature take care of it (aka becoming a failed state and absorbed by the US).
Because Canada was created by politicians and bureaucrats it’s only the politicians and bureaucrats that have everything to lose should Canada disappear off the map.

  9. “Leger’s poll was an online sample of 1,548 Canadians conducted between Feb. 28 and March 2. The sample is weighted to reflect Canada’s demographic makeup, but a similar random sample would produce a margin of error of 2.49 per cent, 19 times out of 20.”

So another useless poll, they really need to correct the second sentence to “This poll is not a random sample so no margin of error can be calculated.”

  10. No no, nothing matters, it is all globohomo/WEF/uniparty/Soros/Bilderberg etc. Only Trump and 51st state (right after Wexit, anyday now, really for sure this time) matters and we need Maxipads to get there.

P.S. Trump tariff smart, all other tariff stupid.
