  1. Give ’em a big government/taxpayer gift to keep going and save jobs! Couple ‘a billion oughtta suffice.

Remember, when the new PM is selected or elected, he will spend his first weekend in office at the IRVING LODGE, where he will “meet with Canada’s business leaders”.

    Iow, get his marching orders.

  2. Irving will be fine, as it is the only game in town east of Quebec.

Tough to understand why they are not making $ on paper bags, now that useful plastic bags are outlawed.

    Maybe they import US trees.

    1. Different mill, different pulping process, different paper machines. Just because it is paper, doesn’t mean it is all the same.

  3. When I was in college I had a part time job in a printing shop in Canada that printed products for national distribution. We used newsprint which was made in Holland. Holland is word famous for its vast forests and forest industry.

Later on I worked in a pulp mill in BC. They didn’t make paper, they made pulp, which was then shipped to somewhere in Asia to be made into paper.

  4. Didn’t NB vote liberal recently?
You get what you voted for.
I loved the comment that Irving’s shut down had nothing to do with the higher electricity rates.
Just wait until the tariffs kick in.

    1. Yes, two main divisions, downstream oil and gas, and woodland, everything from lumber to paper. Largest private landowner in the state of Maine, if they re-invest, it will be south of the border. Electricity in Alabama is 1/3 of the price, they don’t do the stupid net 0 BS.

      1. any continuation of liberal governments in Canada will ensure it’s demise and China will be more than happy to pick up the spoils

        1. And those will be the options…the US or China
One has freedom the other has 15 minute shittys

  5. Edge of wedge, start of landslide, pick your title.
Economics demands a return on invested capital, either real or via Gov payments/subsidies.
Newsflash, Canada, all its Prov Govs are on life support, back door subsidies/payments “read incentives” or JOB SUPPORT payments are done for….broke, opportunities in real world accounting and cost/benefit economies exist.
US or Canada…..Carbon Tax, or not, DEI, Regs, Gov Mandates, Enviro Nut Bars and regs, the BANANA game of Canada…..nothing anywhere etc, etc.
Investor class and Capital Class would and are NUTS, I repeat NUTS, to stay or invest in Canada…..socialism and walk towards full communism, without “ANY” individual property or protection of “PRIVATE’ property are in full
force and being pushed by LIBERAL Party and supposed National Gov.
West MUST leave, those desiring freedom, the game is on, and sadly, the socialists and crew are winning, with a stacked deck.
Just saying…..done with the charade of a nation, when Quebec reaps billions, holds National interests up, BC, lala land free drug culture, willful blindness to corruption and game in play….CCCP and drug channels.

Yeesh, we truly are a S Show, and gong show administratively……a Nation ???? Ya gotta be kidding me, What are are commonality items??? What do we Commonly believe in?? It aint God/Country/and Family any more……thats a for sure.

    Once again……JUST ASKING 🙂

  6. Nobody in the world except maybe Russia? should have cheaper electricity than Canada.

  7. Service workers begin to think that they do not depend on manufacturers and farmers and builders (ie. people who produce), and thus fail to consider their interest might have a bearing on the lives of service workers, and start to vote for things that bite them in the ass.

  8. NB Power is seriously dysfunctional and rapidly rising rates are the result. Just wait till 2030 when the Belledune coal station is forced to shut down to appease the climate gods. That power station generates close to 20℅ of the province’s power.

  9. The Irving’s are the east coast Desmarais’ . They control everything east of quebeckki. Their ‘man’ in the 1st Bong government is Bong girlfriend Scott Brison.

Relax, it’ll work out for Irving Paper. It always does.
