  1. Socialists don’t know how to solve real world problems. Further, because socialism is not based on empirical testing its adherents have no ability to apply common sense or logic when attempting to solve a problem.

  2. I’d argue that the bigger issue is where the bike lanes are located, and how that hinders plowing in general. Plows are at an angle to push the snow to the right so it is removed from the road, and piled along the right side of the roadway. Those bike lanes are directly along the right side of the roadway.

What I really think is going on isn’t favoritism to the greenies. It’s a combination of pragmatism and greed.
    1. You have to clear a place for the snow to go. So the bike lanes were cleared first. (Pragmatism)
    2. You have to take advantage of a snow storm when it comes and milk it for every overtime hour you can. That involves double plowing an area. This was established when the bike lanes were put in. (greed and/or incompetence)

    1. Orson
That applies only if they use angled plows. I used to plow with straight BOX plows. Or plows that could be angled to either side. But bike lanes are used for uber eats, and uber drugs:-))))

  3. Posts a picture of a ploughed road, with cars driving on it.
Do people actually swallow this kind of BS?

  4. its in honour of jack layton , getting caught getting handjob and quietly riding away of his bicycle.

    E. Jack U. Layton

  5. I consider myself a VERY competent bike rider … who considers that a VERY incompetent plow job. No, I’m not stupid … I’d never ride a bike in that. Ever. I don’t care how much you tax my carbon. There is a NET-ZERO chance I would bike through that.

    1. Well Ken Gee, in europe you can even get bicycle tire with studs, and they use bikes all winter long. Finlands sidewalks are wide and paved, separate from the roads, and are well plowed, so they can be used for bikes, scooters, and pedestrians.

      1. Nope. That doesn’t comport with my innate desire for human comfort. You know where you can put your studded bike tires …

      2. I knew some bike messengers in chicago years ago- they all used skinny tires, almost slicks, in the snow. Cuts down through the slush and actually touches the pavement.
mountain bike tires need studs or they just float and slip.

    2. As much as you and I hate the idea of slogging through that, skittering all over and probably dying under a street car, there are bike delivery dudes out there doing it. New immigrants don’t know what “ice under the snow” means, right? They think it’ll be no big deal.

This is why #ShinyPony imported a million Indians. So there would be bike delivery in Toronto, even in the snow.

    3. Kenji, from 91-2000, I rode a mountain bike to work. 20 minutes each way, in all 4 seasons. No bike lanes involved. Not a fan of the lanes, but i can attest that riding can be done in temps ranging from +30 – -30 centigrade. Some days, the frigid temps would freeze the grease in the axle, doubled the effort.

      1. Tewchip, you’re a better man (or woman) than I. I just have one question? Why? Is it for lack of bread, “like the Grateful Dead” … or was it because you were doing your part to save the planet?

  6. Of course they plowed the bike lanes first. People have to get their UberEats deliveries, right?

Also, and this might even be the real reason, the socialists at City Hall hate cars and do not want you driving around in Toronto. Bad snow removal saves the planet!

Bike lanes will get plowed twice, too. Once before the roads, and another time after they fill the bike lane with the snow from the road. This is what socialists call “efficiency” and what city workers call “juicy overtime.”

Then there are all those summer jobs replacing the stupid plastic wands they mark the bike lanes with, more “efficiency.”

    1. Anyone EVVER stop to consider that the other 80% of Ontarians and 99% of Canadians who don’t ride bicycles during winter in the blessed GTHA don’t give a rats behind what you idiots think? Or do?

    1. Canadian conservatives considering the time and money spent plowing a -BIKE-LANE- after a winter storm. Not the road, not even the sidewalk, a bike lane. 13F outside today. Going to be crispy on a bicycle, I’d venture. Meaning no one is riding in this. Except #UberEats. How many will die for your #starbucks delivery?

Bike lane in the -winter-, dude. The ultimate socialist stupidity.

But no, not the ultimate. They’re plowing bike lanes while the homeless are living in tents in the park. And not just a few hard-core bums like the old days. We’re talking families with kids camping in the park. Did I mention it’s 13F right now, forecast to be 5F tonight? Going to be crispy in a tent in the park.

Now, how about those winter bike-lanes, eh? Money couldn’t be better spent?

      1. Perhaps you should look at the picture he posted and do a bit of critical thinking before tying your wittoo panties in a knot.

Oh, and I like the emotional blackmail “think of the children!” angle. Very well reasoned.
The appeal to emotion and lack of critical thinking makes Canada the utopia that it is. Well done.

        1. “Oh, and I like the emotional blackmail “think of the children!” angle.”

So what are you saying, dewd? There -aren’t- kids living in tents in the park? We know there are. What’s more important? Roof over head, or bike lane that -nobody- uses?

  7. The bike lanes are probably a tendered contract…and having had a few of those with the city…you don’t f*ck around and you get the work done…not like those lazy union f*cks they have on the payroll.

  8. Notice the sidewalk isn’t ploughed. In Toronto it is usually the responsibility of the owners fronting onto the sidewalk to keep it clear. Oh well, priorities I suppose.

    1. Funny, isn’t it…..when you “own” property, you own to the property line (and you sure as hell are taxed on it)…..but it isn’t yours because of government dictated setbacks primarily for public use and not for YOUR use. In effect, private property owners are forced to maintain public property…..without compensation. Perhaps people should start sending invoices to the City for cleaning THEIR public spaces…..apply union rates as well.

      1. Quite some time ago (at least 25 years) this issue came to the fore as the city charged an exorbitant fee to shovel the sidewalk (owners typically have something like 24 hours to clear their portion of the sidewalk), I can’t remember the exact figure but something like $150 to $200 per sidewalk in 1995 dollars. In Toronto the frontages are typically small – say 35 ft. Not too shabby – so much so the newspaper letters to the editor were flooded with applications from private citizens to do the work for half the city’s fee. There were no takers from the city.

  9. Note that the street is ploughed. Note that there are no giant piles of snow on the side of the road.
This means that the streets were ploughed and the snow removed.

Note the small piles of snow beside the bike lane.
This means that the bike lanes was ploughed after the street ploughing and snow removes.

Note that Anthoney Furey is a urinalist.
This means that in general, you shouldn’t pay any attention to him.
