NBC News is blaming Trump, and they may have a point.

      1. I enjoyed that film. And hey! Denzel performed an upside-down flight maneuver that saved lives too!

    1. “I’ve seen them explode, crash into the sea, “overshoot” a runway, but never actually upside down.”

Same here. Upside down yet mostly intact? Amazing.

Makes you appreciate the seat belt rule for takeoffs and landings, too.

      1. Sophie Gregoire says to assume a Yoga pose and just breathe and the vibrations from the overturned plane will cease.

      2. You’ve been reading some of the YouTube comments too? Talk about TDS. I was surprised when a Canadian rebutted that it had nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with the weather conditions at the time.

YOU MIGHT WANNA START SHORTING DELTA STOCK…

Said Delta Chief External Affairs Officer Peter Carter…

“’We are steadfast in our commitment because we think they are actually critical to our business,’ he said in response to a reporter’s question about the Atlanta-headquartered airline’s plans around DEI.”

  1. How do you people LIVE in that environment!?

When Canada becomes America’s 51st State, I expect 90% of your population will evacuate SOUTH … in a damn hurry. Yeah, you’ll turn Texas and Florida solid forever-Blue. That’s a non-starter … keep your asses up there in god-forsaken land.

    1. There are a lot of places in the US that have a crappier climate than southern Ontario.

        1. Blacks mountain get more snow most winters than we do in suthern ontario, there’s that.
And that’s due east of LA.

          1. Just drove out of LA and the surrounding mountains … yes, they are visible … were spectacularly covered in snow. Spectacularly beautiful.

      1. PS … I was in Dana Pt. yesterday with my adorable grandsons … at a park … overlooking the ocean … and it was 70deg.F shirtsleeve weather. All I was wearing was my “Icons of Surf” T-shirt. Beautiful!

But please! Nobody else come to CA! Stay where you are!

          1. Pro tip – the majority of Californians have only lived here for 3-years. They’re all broken people who have escaped their hell holes … only to bring their hellish view of the world out here. They know nothing of how to be a Californian

          2. Me too … yes it was. Now it is overpopulated and undermaintained.

Soon to become the State of expats who all cringe and say … yeah, I lived there for a while. ~shudder~

        1. I’m in Florida now – nice weather but you couldn’t pay me to live here year round. I’ve been here in late June and that was bad enough (I’ve been told by locals that August – September are the worst). As for California, I do like the San Diego area (we spent part of three winters there).

      1. If I move to that climate … or even visit … I’d probably be dead in a matter of hours. Lack of an understanding of just HOW MANY layers of clothing are required.

  2. Places where the weather’s always warm have their own problems.

Just got back from Puerto Vallarta, where there’s a dengue fever warning throughout most of the states surrounding PV. Ran into a Canadian ex-pat who’s wife was going through her fourth re-infection of the fever, which hospitalized her (and could have killed her).

Meanwhile foot fungus has made its presence known to us returnees.

    I’m okay with colder weather.

  3. Okay, I’m going to go there…wind gusts (nothing you can do about that) and a runway that doesn’t look safe to land on. DEI hires at Pearson not doing their jobs?

Former commercial pilot Captain Mike Coffield said in an interview that the plane was coming in really slow, but also descending very aggressively. Sounds suspiciously like a stall.

        1. Yes. A rapid descent wouldnt surprise me. Faster than a normal 700 fpm with a 3 degree fly path angle.

    1. Potentially, for speculation purposes only, the pilot was playing the most Canadian game of “Where’s my lane!” and lost when one of his wheels went off the edge of the runway?

      1. I love it when lanes become a suggestion and everyone follows the first tire tracks on the road,

    1. I’ve been on a “no fly list” for more than twenty years. I created it myself. I can’t think of anywhere I’d want to go that I can’t walk, drive, ride or paddle, stopping or detouring for a break whenever I want.

  4. My son was a Captain on the CRJ, he described the -900 as a runway hog. They need far more runway than the earlier versions.
We were discussing the DCA crash, he has flown the same pattern as the accident aircraft. Said that it would not be possible in the -900 as R33 at DCA is too short.
With likely poor runway condition today, the -900 would be a handful to land.
Naturally we must wait for the TSB to do their job.

    1. Maintenance AME, endorsed on 100-200-300 CRJ. They don’t like to glide very well, you have to fly them right down to the runway, the wingtips are only 7-8 feet off the ground, due to the short landing gear, trailing link design, so you are already at a disadvantage, if you tip a wing in a crosswind.

  5. I saw a weather report saying gusts to 53 knots. That’s about 100 kph and it was not straight down the runway. I think the pilot would have been wise to ask for an alternate airport. I have seen speculative reports that seem to indicate the aircraft was in a stall as it neared the ground and stuck a wingtip into the runway. I will wait for the full report but I do suspect the pilot earned his walking wings today.

  6. In news reports, there were high wind conditions, the left wing is detached. 3 persons in serious condition.
The picture in the X post, the right wing, landing gear, still attached.
Suggests a hard left landing gear, wing strike, on landing, resulting in break-off, and then the plane rolled.

  7. Just seen one of those “security camera shows new angle of” videos and it got me thinking…. In an age where you can buy a toy camera for a toddler with 8MP ability for under $20, how is it a security camera that shows a runway of the busiest Airport in Canada has the resolution of a preschooler with a crayon?
It’s kinda ridiculous, hey how’d that plane get upside down? Well, let’s just check the footage off them security cameras we put up back in 1980, anybody got a Betamax player?
