    1. If the Liberal government falls and there’s an election called in March then I have no idea why anyone would want to be leader of the Liberals and short term Prime Minister. The Liberals look like they will lose in a conservative wave. Carney won’t even have a seat in Parliament.

Perhaps they think they can hang on until October and “mismanage” some more taxpayer money into the hands of friends and family.

      1. Not so fast. Dogmeet may see this as an opportunity to once again, excrete a new special, taxpayer funded social program that none of us asked for.
There’s no guarantee Meethead will live up to his word, or anything he said previously. His track record is crap.
With that in mind, October still looks like election time.

        1. Wouldn’t suprise me. Singh is not a man who is bound by his word. Although he will qualify for his pension by the time Parliament resumes.

      2. That’s it, LC. Everyone with any remaining skill or ability knows that the LPC is about to be drowned in as massive a collapse as Kim Campbell unleashed on herself in 1993. That collapse was so bad that the Conservative Party itself completely disintegrated for many years until Stephen Harper managed to put the pieces back together.

No one in their right mind wants to be Kim Campbell Part 2. The alternatives tested by Nanos show that replacing Justatwit with anyone will not change the result in any noticeable way. All they are doing now is trying to secure spots in the sandbox for themselves when their political careers crash and burn. They are hangining on for the time being simply to try to destroy all the incriminating documents left lying around that might haunt them later.

Some like Anand have some talent and skills, and the time is now to find an exit. Jolie? Her only useful skill is a streetwalker on Crescent Street. LeBlanc? No one needs a warmed over turd whose only skill was representing the interests of the Irvings.

But there’s a bigger picture. Some of the departments who were openly partisan and collaborated with the LPC will get gutted. Foreign Affairs is likely first on the chopping block, followed closely by Environment. The Cabinet now has 38 ministers of the crown. That’s a staggering amount. I suspect at least some of their departments or agencies will be eliminated or merged.

        1. I truly hope it will be like when President Meili (sp?) of Argentina was inaugurated and on the first day, eliminated 50% of the government departments and agencies. I can hope.

    2. Absolutely. It would seem to be a great recipe for ending a lifelong political career. I hope the Red Dwarf is up to the challenge.

    3. Money.. It;s his turn at our wallets. The rest of the cabinet have Gorged themselves like a big fat leach, so now its his turn. He should be able to wring outa few bucks before the credit card is denied.

    4. Having “Canadian Prime Minister” on one’s CV might be the motivation. As Michelle Rempel Garner pointed out (yesterday, I think it was, on Substack) the next Liberal leader is going to be our next prime minister, albeit probably for a very short period of time.

Under Liberal Party rules, the people who’ll get to select Canada’s next prime minister will include:

      1) 14 year-olds
      2) Permanent residents who are not Canadian citizens.

Among the people who won’t have a say in who the next PM will be: Canadians with Conservative Party memberships.

      1. I’m a far right conservative, and I just joined the Liberal Party in order to be able to cast a sabotage vote. I would encourage more people to do the same. Right wingers for Freeland!!

  1. Yawn. I don’t care who they select as leader because I’m not voting for them.

  2. If the only willing #Librano will be the Carney, and he’s without a seat in parliament, and they fall below the 12 seat standard to hold official party status… why would he? Why bother staying for 4-8 years shouting from the wilderness without any spiffs to toss around?

And every moment he shouts from the wilderness, the return shouts are the latest forensic accounting finding at him while tagging #Libranos and missing $millions or #epsteinlist ?

    What’s the point?

  3. The whole point of the huge deposit is to make sure that the alsorans don’t run, it’ll come down to descendant of nazi collaborators and the carnival barker

    1. Forget Campbell. Why not genius hedy fry who took Campbell’s seat? If she’s not still battling burning crosses on Prince George BC lawns, of course.

She’d be no worse an interim “leader” than the ässhole who’s on the way out and her public delusions would be quite entertaining until the next election that wipes the libtrash from the electoral map.

    1. Both candidates are disasters-in-the making … Even card-carrying Liberals do not want leftists. Mark Carney is the most dangerous, as he speaks well, is a serious globalist and knows how to manipulate financial affairs. Freeland will lose, as she is too close to Trudeau.

Historically, ex-Finance ministers were never elected as Prime Minister, I think.

    1. That would be hilarious. But at least two non-entities are running, so we might end up with “Joe Who?” As temporary PM.

  4. Is Canadian citizenship worth anything any more?

The outgoing PM says we’re a “post-national state”. He defines Canadians as “not Americans”.

You don’t have to be a citizen vote for LPC leader (and thus, the PM). Mere residency will do.

The leading candidate is a citizen of three countries – Canada, the UK and Ireland. How can he be trusted to put Canada’s interests first?

No longer worth much, I’d say.

  5. I can see why the trade minister wouldn’t run for leader. She is going to have her hands full when Trump sanctions Canada notably the auto industry.

      1. the majority of liberals do not realize that Trump is a chess master and will finesse the liberal fools. Fortunately we have a conservative government in the wings to bring common sense to the equation

        1. Exactly so, Wally. The threat of tariffs is itself a tactic to smoke out the idiots in Canada who think that the US government can be defied or taken lightly. All these jokes about 51st State, etc. are simply aimed at diminishing Canada’s negotiating position and soften up resistance. It’s aimed at terrifying the Canadian media as well as the Liberal party establishment. This is NOT aimed at Justatwit or Garden Gnome Barbie. Trump despises both of them and won’t waste time talking to either one. He will wait to negotiate with the CPC Prime Minister who succeeds Justatwit.

  6. Libs can avoid calling an election until 2026. Carney and media will have a year and a half to buy the required votes.

    1. Nope. Government of Canada runs out of money before the end of this winter. That means a budget, Speech from the Throne and confidence vote before the end of March.

      1. While true, there’s no guarantee Jack Meat won’t save the Lieberals. W/ the commie war chest MT, I don’t think he wants an election any more than the Lieberals do. In addition, I’ve been reading that the Bloc may end up being Official Opposition so he has little to gain there.

      2. I honestly believe that the new Liberal leader will throw money at the NDP and Bloc to survive the non-confidence vote.
The trick will be who they offer the bribe to first. Whoever gets the money first looses the ability to say they voted against keeping the Liberals.
So, Jagmeet will take the money and the Bloc will vote non-confidence.

I wish it weren’t so but that will be how it unfolds.

  7. This is just more theatre.
It started with Freeland quitting in a huff, followed by Trudeau throwing her under the bus.
Trudeau knew he was quitting when he cancelled the yearends and he knew who was next.
It doesn’t matter who “runs”, it doesn’t matter who votes, the backroom boys will tell us in March that Carney won.

  8. Unless things change drastically the Conservatives will win a majority. By any measure this appears to be a ‘change election’. That said, it’s 4 years on the opposition bench and maybe 3rd party status.

Carney couldn’t tolerate being 2IC or 3rd. Freeland wouldn’t do well with it either. The libranos will have to find a caretaker. Somebody to fall on the sword, take one for the team with a promise of futures… Harper was around for 10 years last time this happened.

The librano cabinet ministers and back benchers who are young enough to hang around doing nothing for 4 years will be too old in 10. They see their chances slipping away (cue bitterness) .

That leaves someone who wants to be PM, for maybe a week. It won’t be a long list of applicants.

    1. It ain’t gonna change. Neither Carney nor Garden Gnome Barbie have the media skills of a gerbill. So you are right; they will have to find a caretaker for a leader. Because next election the Libs are getting pounded. It may be as bad as what happened to the British Liberal Party in 1924. For all practical purposes, it had been exterminated for all time. The question for me now is will the LPC survive all all given that the NDP and Greens already exist as socialist alternatives.

So you are right; anyone with any career skills outside politics is leaving now.

  9. I bet you Andrew Scheer is giving some serious thought to turning his suit jacket red-side-out and challenging carney to a bare-naked mud wrestle for the pole position.

  10. Will Han Dong run?
He’d undoubtedly get the Xi bloc vote.

Or will the Hamas bloc run a candidate?

  11. The leading candidate only needs to convince the Liberal Paty that he’ll always put the Party’s interests first.
