Ontario’s deputy premier and former solicitor general has come to the defence of the federal government after its unprecedented use of the Emergencies Act was ruled to be a violation of constitutional rights.
Speaking in Burlington, Ont., Sylvia Jones — now the province’s health minister — said people in Ontario should not be “held hostage” by invasive and disruptive protests.
On Tuesday, the Federal Court ruled Ottawa’s use of the Emergencies Act to end to so-called “Freedom Convoy” in 2022 was “unreasonable.” The government used the unprecedented and wide-sweeping law to help it break up a weeks-long demonstration that was set up in downtown Ottawa.
It’s too bad Ms. Jones never bothered to educate herself about the Nuremberg Code. Even just the first of the ten points would be useful:
The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, over-reaching, or other ulterior form of constraint or coercion, and should have sufficient knowledge and comprehension of the elements of the subject matter involved as to enable him to make an understanding and enlightened decision.

Shameful. She needs to explain why Trudeau or a Liberal representative was not able to meet with the organizers of the convoy as a way of diffusing the situation. That needed to be done in advance of claiming emergency powers. Obviously government thugs stick together.
All the Turd had to do was let them drive around the city for an hour or two to let them make their point then meet with the leaders and listen to them. It would have defused the whole situation and the truckers would have left the next day. But no, his empty head was filled with the whispers of his sycophants telling him that this was an actual insurrection and he had to flee for his life.
I didn’t have much respect for Doug when he couldn’t harness the very real Ford Nation to win the Toronto mayors race. As for his tenure as Premier, he’s proven himself to be yet one more political lickspittle who only got his position because he wasn’t disliked as much as Wynne was. To have the Deputy Premier rush to the Turd’s defense doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Ignoring the reasons for the Freedom Convoy protest, there is a hypocritical double-standard here. Leftists are ALWAYS allowed to protest their cause and are supported, despite the FACT that there is often violence (see forestry protests in BC, BLM anywhere, anti-Israel / Pro-Hamas).
Why are protests that allow violence “Good” but demonstrably non-violent protests “Bad”?
If protest is a democratic right (as the Left always likes to claim), then why is it only one side that is allowed to protest?
Incidentally, the Freedom Convoy shouldn’t have been a partisan protest. I’m always amazed how the Left doesn’t actually believe in basic principals like individual autonomy or freedom of speech.

I am glad the Nuremberg Code is mentioned specifically. When it emerged as a possible issue at an early point, we were assured by the ever compliant media that: no Canada was not violating Nuremberg because the vaccines had been “approved” by Health Canada — what utter nonsense and gaslighting! Everyone knew that the vaccines had not been properly tested, thus they were experimental — yet many individuals were coerced into taking them against their will. Few people can afford a job loss. How do you think Canadians would respond if they understood that their government had violated the Nuremberg code?
