When I first heard about Wab Kinew’s latest plan, the Simpsons’ Springfield Monorail episode came to mind. True to his socialist roots, he firmly believes that the only reason why Manitoba has not become a “have” province is because the provincial government never instituted the “correct” central planning scheme which would magically end Manitoba’s dependence on transfer loot from Ottawa.
Manitoba can cut its dependence on federal equalization payments over the next decade by going big on zero-emission advanced manufacturing, Premier Wab Kinew says.
The ambitious goal could be reached within 10 years, and would be achieved through building up a zero-emissions advanced manufacturing sector, the NDP premier argued.
The government must pursue a “few signature investments” that will make Manitoba a hub for mineral extraction, component assembly and exporting locally manufactured goods, he added.

Wab should look around and check out a few other “signature investments” that other NDP governments have made. I don’t think any have been anything but a colossal failure. Not that that will deter him.

What is this “advanced manufacturing” that allows you to extract minerals (saying nothing of what they are used for elsewhere), assemble components and manufactured goods with no emissions whatsoever?
Are we talking about magic or miracles here. I’d like to know if the plan is through a magician or a religious zealot so I know what to wear.
I’d like to know which “first nations” are willing to have their lands strip mined to get access to the raw materials that Wab can smell? Hear? Taste? that are apparently found in abundance in Manitoba.
Whenever I hear the latest NDP nitwit pontificate on how his/her grand plan will make Manitoba a powerhouse to be admired around the world, I always think of the government funded Crocus Investment Fund that he and the unions came up with. In the end it came out that it was literally a Ponzi scheme.
All Socialist ideas end up with one or two rich Socialists making off with millions while the tax payer gets screwed.
Wab can go pound sand although I know he’s more inclined to pound on his wife or a taxi driver.
Geoff H
Just another socialist moron.
More mineral extraction in Manitoba?
Not going to happen.
You can’t fix or argue with stupidity. Only hard personal experience with life and an acquaintance with failure tempers stupidity, and sometimes, not even then, if a person is an ideologue. That is why the liberal left has so many failures – because they can’t process what reality is and its rules. Don Quixote comes to mind.
The government does everything better! For example, take a 6 or 7 billion dollar 1 year pipeline project, and turn it into a ten year 35 billion and growing project. People who suffer the consequences of their desicions just cannot achieve that kind of progress!
Why doesn’t Wab Kinew stick to things he’s an expert in..- like guzzling booze, smoking dope, consuming hard drugs and prescription pills and starting fights with random innocent people and beating the shit out of women !!!
Leave the thinking stuff to other more qualified people.
The stupid freak
in the same pattern as blackie mcblackface. beating up inebriated indigenous , cant fault him there
“Manitoba can cut its dependence on federal equalization payments over the next decade by going big on zero-emission advanced manufacturing, Premier Wab Kinew says.”
This is a required part of begging for Federal money. Support this next idea and we will become self sufficient. Happens in Eastern Canada as well. PEI got their wind farm. Somebody got their cucumber farm. Newfoundland is getting their green hydro (which they can’t sell or even afford themselves). Like the drug addict promising that this hit will be the last – then he’s going to get clean.
O.K. , Wab. Let’s start with the key benchmark for your initiative.
Equalization payments from federal taxpayers to Manitoba will be $3,510 per capita this year. Those payments have increased every year for the last eight years, more than doubling from $1,738 to $3,510. Next year, those payments will increase by a whopping 24% to $4,352.
In comparison, your neighbour Saskatchewan has not received any equalization payments throughout this period and will not receive any next year.
Here is a great idea to show how serious you are about your plans: commit Manitoba to refusing any equalization payments, starting five years from now.

And more importantly SK doesn’t have anywhere near the advantages that Manitoba has. It doesn’t have significant hydro power which Manitoba does, to the extent that they can piss it away, which Manitoba did (see The Black Rod). It doesn’t have a port – Churchill may not be the best port but for at least 5 to 6 months of the year it is good shipping. Sk has longer distances to take its products whereas Manitoba has closer access to the Great Lake ports along with the hubs in the US. If Manitoba hasn’t been able to take advantage of these things, it is unlikely to succeed on his new approach.
Manitobans go out of our way to step on every fiscal rake in the yard by electing an NDP government every time we’re just about to turn a corner.
The gimme crowd manages to convince enough of the population that we can afford another run at financial suicide by electing a party that cannot and will not balance a budget.
Add that to our constant pandering to native groups who refuse to take responsibility for their own lives and move off the bloody rez and go get a job instead of being professional complainers.
Many of these professional complainers, if they become a big enough PITA eventually get kicked of their reserves and come to Winnipeg to leech off the social services there.
The best part is that Wab lives in “River Heights” according to the latest tongue bath article on Winnipeg in the Grope and Flail. So, Manitoba alternates between an NDP leader in River Heights and Liberals dressed up as Conservatives who live on Wellington Crescent.
All the choices from A to B on offer in Manitoba.
More wind turbines no doubt.
I hear those things are awfully loud…
Mining in Manitoba? Have to pay off the chiefs first.
And that will be the end of it.
They’ll pay off the chiefs, but then disgruntled elders, not satisfied with the share that the chief doled out to them, and noting what the chief kept for himself, will engage some NGOs, find some lawyers, and bring the whole process to a stop.
The first NDP government in Manitoba, elected in 1969, invested in a plane manufacturer, Saunders aircraft, went under.
Invested in a cruise ship, The Lord Selkirk, money loser, scrapped.
Bought Russian turbines for Manitoba Hydro.
I’ve probably forgotten several more of their failures.
The Crocus fund was one of their ideas as well.
It turned out to be such a Ponzi scheme that even the courts had to eventually file charges and take some of the scum bags to speak to a judge.
I believe that the people responsible skated or maybe they pinned it on someone who was already dead?
I forget the outcome but I do know that a bunch of Manitobans lost all their government backed investments.
Geoff H
The Crocus Fund was a bi partisan affair as the fellow who tried to blow the whistle on it, John Loewen, was run out of town on rails.
NDP government being watermelons, what a surprise. I’m sure his indigenous knowledge will break the curse of consistent pseudo-environmentalist and socialist failure…..not! They aren’t called (at least I call them) brain-dead NDP jurisdictions for nothing. It also isn’t coincidental that they inhabit and dominate humanities faculties.
What is it about the mindset of socialists that they absolutely cannot learn from the vast history of failure in socialist regimes? Why do they keep embarking on projects and programs that they should know are doomed to fail at great expense to the overburdened taxpayer?
This history is there for all to see. Why are they so blind to it?
I agree. Why? It’s a religion of a particularly nutty variety. It’s not based on anything rational or observable. The central tenet of this religion is that statism can solve every human social or economic problem including different outcomes for different people.
You are right that it fails every single time. Worse, it usually degenerates into mass murder of those it hates the most (anti-semitism, bourgeoisie, anyone literate (the Maoist variety). You cannot debate logically with any member of any insane religious cult. The response is invariably, “this time we will do it right.”
Besides, as George Orwell demonstrated in 1984, history is simply a matter of opinion and any conflicting views can be changed with indoctrination.
Wab beats Doug Ford to the punch…a gut punch to the taxpayer?
Leave Thug Fraud out of this, he’s too busy making “vroom vroom” noises while pushing his toy cars around a scale model of a subdivision.
RE: “few signature investments”
Few signature investments = government boondoggle.
Rob Canoe….what a frickin joke.
The great fear is that Wab Kinew will insist on renaming Manitoba Hydro as “Kinewtic Energy”.
