    1. 20% of the PEI gov’t funds are from other provinces, with no stake in whether they fail or succeed. There’s no way to end the intergenerational welfare dependency without the west separating. If at some point in the distant future, Old Canada decides to make an offer to have the west rejoin with Old Canada, it needs be done with interprovincial equality written in, without a way for those in the east to circumvent those regulations, and with limits as to what gov’t in Canada can DO TO CANADIANS, especially when they live their lives while simply wanting to be left alone by others.

      The obvious discrepancy between how many MP’s are from each province based upon something from 1867. We have a census every decade, what is lacking is the will to repair the damage from 1867.
      The count of citizens in each province is complete very soon after the census deadline and this has nothing to do with compiling your “mother’s language”. The number of MP’s attributable to each province should be equal based upon their population, for example 1 MP for every 100k citizens, and you get another MP when you have 200,001 citizens according to the census. The number of Senators should be the same per province, 10 per province for example, and if PEI cannot be made to be able to exist without being bailed out for eternity, then roll it into Nova Scotia as their 8th country, it’s barely above the usual size of a Nova Scotia county, and they’re clearly not able to govern themselves.

      It’s so easy to repair this, what is lacking is the political will to make this fair to all Canadians.
      Without fairness between provinces, why would anyone want to be part of the charade?

      2. And PEI is probably the most over governed piece of real estate on the face of the earth.

        The population of PEI is about 153,000. It has 4 MP’s or about 1 for every 38,250 people. Alberta, by way of comparison has 34 MP’s for a population of 4,300,000 people or about 126,470 people. If Alberta had the same ratio of MP’s to population as PEI, it would have 112 MP’s…not 34. And it’s not like PEI could argue that their MP’s have a lot of territory to cover given that the area of PEI is 5,660 square km or 654 square km per MP….Alberta is 661,848 square km or 19,466 square km per MP or about 30 times the geographical area as MP’s in PEI.

        PEI has 27 MLA’s or about 1 for every 5,665 people. Alberta has 87 MLA’s or about 1 for every 49,425 people.

        The capital of PEI, Charlottetown has a population of 36,094 and it has a Mayor and 10 councillors or about 1 for every 3,281 people. Calgary for comparison has a Mayor and 14 councillors for a population of 1,239,000 people or about 1 for every 82,600 people.

        The GDP per capita for PEI is $44,180 while in Alberta it is $78,213. And PEI receives $419,000,000 in equalization, or about $2,738 per person.

        Government appears to be the biggest “industry” on PEI and likely every person in the “province” is connected in some way to a government paycheque.

  13. In addition to Quebec, I see NB and NS are doing quite well too, getting half of what Quebec is getting despite their low population. Maybe you can spare some of the venom directed at Quebec for them also. They play a role in keeping the Liberals in power.

  15. I’m surprised no premier is lobbying to get Quebec’s revenues from hydro-electric included in the equalization formula. Quebec makes billions of dollars a year exporting hydro-electric out of the province.

    1. Well that’s because the feds have not bothered to renegotiate the terms of equalization as they are supposed to do every five years. The feds simply extended the old formula….the NDP was the provincial government in Alberta at the time and sat quietly on the hands.

    Perhaps you haven’t thought this through.
    If California only needs two senators there is no Canadian province that needs more!!

    1. I’ve thought it through, I don’t have the notion that we need more gov’t.

      It’s the same number of senators as Canada has now, but divided equally between them instead of being an extension of the number of MP’s who already represent Canadians somewhat by population or in the case of Senators are now “by region” which has been shown to be a fail… “10 senators for each of 10 provinces” I chose 10 as the number, because if it were 2 for each province, there’d only be 20 for the country and I think it’s more difficult to find 100 idiots rather than 20 idiots. Also, elected for set terms, not until they are 75 years old.
      Additionally, if PEI can’t hold their own and were forced to become part of Nova Scotia, there’d be 90 Senators in all, and nobody would have to resort to being compared to Calif.

      At no point did I advocate for “more gov’t” … as well, the actual number of MP’s or Senators is a very small part of gov’t expenses. The greatest dollar amount seems to be having the entire country following laws which are shown to not aid the country, but to try to bring about fairness between areas, and without actually doing so. I want areas not functioning well, to fail, and I want successful areas to succeed. Unlike the entire eastern provinces in the above X/Tweet from Premier Moe of Sask.

      Then perhaps Canada could fund their military, or seniors dependent upon pensions, like a real country would.
      I doubt there’s a way of doing any of this without tossing the entire crappy Constitution of Canada, and opening it up to 100’s of special interest groups who all want a designated Senator for their area as it’s so special. For example.

      The west is better off separating.

    On this we agree. Something I’ve been advocating for since 1981.
    However if a U.S. State can function with two then a province can too. Providing they are elected and not appointed. And can initiate legislation.
    All this is a not possible without the serious threat of the west getting out because to amend the constitution requires agreement by Ontario and or Quebec with a majority of other provinces.
    “Power” has never been known to voluntarily give itself up. It has to be wrestled away.
    Yes we need leadership to lead.

It has been repeatedly screwed over since 1905 and that won’t change in the future because the Lieberals will continue to buy votes east of Saskatchewan with the West’s money. After Wexit there will be no more “profitable federalism” (coined by Robert Bourassa, IIRC) for Quebec.
