The cumulative inflation for your food from December 2021 to June 2023 is, brace yourself, a staggering 18.2%. That’s right, in less then three years nearly one-fifth of your money’s buying power has evaporated, just like that! Poof! But here’s the kicker: Trudeau had this very data in his hands in a report by the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food — a report that he commissioned since last June. And yet, what does he do? Yesterday, almost four months after the report was published – opts for the political theatrics of summoning grocery CEOs and flirting with the tax hammer.

Don Martin is scathing – a reality of sorts finally got through to Trudeau this week at the Liberal caucus retreat.

Trudeau also spent more than a year raising the cost of borrowing, which increases the cost building all of these expected dedicated rental apartments, which then means they have to be rented for more. The GST discount isn’t going to amount to a drop in the 5 gallon bucket of increased costs.

      I’m sure his plan will be the same as the carbon tax rebate, government increased taxes, and then promises to give it back to you in the form of an incentive, after taking their cut…

    An enterprise cannot survive losing money until there is no income or as it is called, profit.

      I agree. And about that and other predictions I’ve had for the last three years, I’ll share my score card with you.

      Upshot: I’ve been wrong about a few things, right about others…

      When the Covid Hysteria emerged, I was skeptical that western governments would copy the lock-downs China was purportedly enforcing and that were (purportedly) captured on YT. I didn’t believe western governments would deliberately crash their own economies or that people would fully consent to it. Obviously, a big naive fail on my part.

      When the lockdowns did happen, I was right when I predicted they and the nefarious “vaccine” mandates would trigger protests and these protests would eventually be a pretext for the Emergency Act/War Powers invocation thing. But I was wrong when I thought the protests would be bigger and that more than a few cops on horses would be needed to suppress popular unrest. I didn’t see the bank account confiscation/freezing thing.

      As soon as central banks started printing money and governments started stuffing it into the pockets of their supporters, I was sure there’d be out of control price inflation. That was obvious, but I’ll still call it a correct prediction. I was wrong when I predicted a couple of years ago that the “Emergency” powers would also be used to intervene more directly in a downward spiralling economic crisis.

      I’ve been wrong (so far) about Wage and Price Controls…I was sure that governments would bring them in as soon as prices started to skyrocket — particularly food prices. This has been a big fail for me…even Trudeau The First invoked “six and five” to limit federal government employee pay rises in the 80s, and the fed employees hated it and despised Marc Lalonde for it. But Junior has so far just piled on the pay rises and even given huge “bonuses” to his employees just for settling a strike. You can always count on Junior to double down on stupid. Some things in life really are guaranteed.

      I was also predicting taxes would get even crazier with governments desperate to find new cash as debt payments balloon with rising interest rates…well I was right about the last two, but so far new taxes haven’t materialized as I thought, e.g. higher GST, tax on residential house proceeds, etc. etc. Junior would probably need an outright majority for that and years before another election.

      Predictions will generally be correct if they account for the trend in maximum government evil and idiotic compliance among the ruled.

Do not attribute ignorance to those that are clearly and repeatedly malevolent. Jacking the price of groceries will cause people’s home finances to crash, and people will start to starve. The corporations will pass the tax directly to the consumer as they always have.

  47. Pardon me if this has already been mentioned. A government dictating to private enterprise what is and is not an allowable profit margin is fascism, plain and simple. When Mussolini, a socialist school teacher, realized that cgovernments were incapable of running a business after it had been nationalized he created a new system where the business remained in private ownership but had limits as to what they could make, how much they could make, what they were to pay for wages, and a limited profit margin.
    So under a fascist government they could say limit the type of vehicle you own, or even if you could own a vehicle. They would dictate food prices, fuel prices, energy prices, etc. But it would all be por the greater good, of course.
