This is intentional: part of the “nudge” to make commercial flight so painful and expensive that the average deplorable begins turning away and the industry shrinks to accommodate only the worthy elites.

Politically cleaner than banning commercial air travel, (as they did plastic straws) There’s more than one way to skin a carbon footprint. They’re doing it to oil and gas, they’re doing it to agriculture.

  1. Big storm blew through yesterday so it was a s*it show if you had to fly through Toronto or Montreal airports. I can see how baggage got buggered up since they’re barely efficient at the best of times. My original flight yesterday out of Moncton to Toronto got delayed to an ungodly hour and so I got switched to a flight with a connection in Montreal. Gate congestion at PET resulted in an hour and a half wait on the tarmac…long enough to miss my connection to Toronto. Line up at the counter as far as the eye could see and folks crashed out everywhere. Thankfully, someone else is paying the travel bills so I just crawled into a cab and headed for the Hilton. Three hours of Muzak later and I got rebooked on a flight home today. Just enjoying my $35 airport sammich and coffee while I wait, neck deep in French speakers, fingers crossed I make it home today.

    Luggage issues aside…it’s the slog of the “hurry up and wait” and over the top checks from Pearson’s smug, Fill in third world shit hole language here:__________ speaking security personnel that finally made a believer out of me. And returning is never a day at the beach either. Congrats…you whooped me.
    I seriously don’t know how people put up with it.

    Does the federal gov’t control all aspects of air travel to, from, and in Canada including airport contracts and employee standards because it’s all federally regulated? (for your safety!)

      Good ol’ Jean-Claude Parrot. I always used to get him mixed up with Jean Chretien back in the day. Same type of thug, different shake-down crew.

      BTW, government devaluation of its currency, (so-called “inflation”), empowers unions. As when Parrot took his government postal layabouts out on strike for a 71% wage rise. We’re going back to those days again thanks to Trudeau government debt monetization. Screw you tax payers and private sector productive savers.

        You write an email, send it electronically to the post office. Canada Post prints it off, puts it in an envelope, applies a stamp, and then puts it in a mailbox for pick up.

Your description of government union make-work and techno-phobia made me think of a throw-away joke in a scene from Spitting Image…(this was back in the 80s)…Gorbachev and wife Raisa were watching television and grumbling about some new disaster and Raisa pushes her TV remote control: a boxing glove at the end of a stick shoots out of the remote to bash the TV and change channels. So comical and primitive Jean-Claude Parrot approves!!!
