We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

The snake devours its tail: There are now more than 1 million electric vehicles in California, and pricey cables used to charge them are a hot item for thieves, who either post them on popular resale websites or sell them for scrap metal since they’re full of expensive copper wiring.

  1. “My CAR’S out of range…” ” – What? There’re three gas stations right across the street!” “Mine is an ELECTRIC car, you planet-destroying heathen!” “Heh. Ring-ring, hello “Learn from My Fail”? – I got a doozy for ya!”

  2. Got to hand it to thieves, they never miss a trick. This one is too easy…catalytic converters are labour intensive.

  3. The view from customers is very evident and very hostile. 18% of customers go back to gasoline or diesel after owning an EV. And this is despite the large number of lavish rebates for buying an EV.

    1. Virtue signalling is expensive. I expect the reason more people don’t ditch the electric is because its their toy for the weekend, or the wife drives it.

Anyone trying to use those things as a daily driver would go insane from the frustration.

      1. The environuts like to state that norway is a good example of how most households now have an EV, and norways is so cold yet they can do it. Norway, norway, norway -so electric and green.

Of course, what they fail to mention is just what you say – the EV is their virtue car – not their main car. More houses still have the good ole carbon car than EV. I’ve several norwegians friends, they all say the same thing – they could afford to buy an EV with the subsidies so they did so but really, really prefer taking their real car on the road when travelling somewhere.

    1. Yeah, you let people off for property crimes, but then you leave $2700 hanging on a hook with nobody around to protect it?

That’s how you can tell the government is a scam.

    2. A replacement gas cap for my fancy BMW is $48.00 should my wife leave it behind at the petrol station.

      1. At best, the International Building Code requires a less-than 1hr. Fire wall and 20min. rated fire door between a Residential Garage and Living Spaces. An EV fire is a runaway chemical/metal battery fire that burns for HOURS. Just wait … the IBC is going to require a 4hr. fire separation wall in the near future … and THAT may still not be enough as all the UL testing of fire assemblies uses fires considerably cooler and less violent than EV fires.

  4. I guess the obvious thing I’m wondering is why the various charger cable manufacturers haven’t gone to a copper coated steel cable… it pisses off the thieves and makes it harder to steal.

  5. Coming soon…

Why ain’t they no charging stations in my neighborhood? It’s a Charging Desert! Racism!

I demand reparations. Will need $300 million to study the issue first.
