If you really want to see dishonest doublespeak in action, you have to head up to Canada, where the government-controlled Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC—Canada’s version of the BBC and NPR rolled into one) put out the chart below attempting to show they are not that dependent on government aid. Notice something odd about it? (If not, look closer at the circled part of the y-axis.)

    1. This is embarrassing for the CBC. Why try to deny something everyone knows is true. If they want to make the case that they are not that dependent on government funding, it should be possible to reduce that funding without severe hardship for them.

    2. And Cambridge, Ontario allowed Toyota a 17 year exemption on all municipal taxes when it first opened its plant, and it now has a second 17 year exemption since the first one expired. And when the plant opened (May 6, 1986), the first car off the line went to the Toyota Canadian VP, and the second went to the mayor of Cambridge at the time (it was supposedly given to the City of Cambridge, but mysteriously became her property for its lifetime). Imagine being a facility of that size (400 acres), and not having to pay municipal taxes ever.

    1. UnMe: Not to worry, Alberta will be fine. But, Canada is done like toast. Most Canadian do not realize it or even care for that matter.

      When Trump is elected President the US will, for national security reasons, feel obligated to protect Canadians from the threat of Canadian left-leaning chi-com supporting politicians and their bureaucrats. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northern BC and the northern territories will be the first to jump ship to become a US territory. The US will in turn roll out the red carpet for them and more.

      It is the beginning of a geo-political realignment of North America for the twenty-first century. The good news is it will all be over very quickly and relatively painlessly. Trudeau, Singh, Notley and a whole cast of others can kiss their 15 minutes of fame goodbye. Borders are going to change. Leaders are going to change. Politics is going to change.

      Canada had its chance and proved itself unwilling and/or unable to be fit for purpose in the twenty-first century. So now change is inevitable.

    2. Might not be a central issue this election but it is ALWAYS an issue and an important one for many voters. I am sure there are other issues to be addressed, but I don’t think she is likely to lose many votes on that one.

      1. She isn’t gaining any and the more she’s talking about non-central issues like her real opponent ie Raging Rachel NOT PM Trudeau, the more she looks like (and is) a space case and the more people aren’t voting for her. Be afraid, Smith may very well lose.
