SENATE SPENDING SOARS!
The cost to run the Senate of Canada has soared by roughly 70 per cent in the seven years since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was first elected — an increase some say is unacceptable, given that the number of senators has remained static over the same period.
CONSERVATIVE SENATOR BLASTS!
Conservative Senate Leader Don Plett, a member of CIBA, blasted the mounting costs during the budget debate, saying he’s “really disturbed” by what he sees as a lackadaisical approach to spending by other senators and some Senate bureaucrats.
“Are Canadians getting 70 per cent more out of the Senate than they did in 2016?” Plett asked. “I was here in 2016 and I’m here now and I don’t think we’re getting 70 per cent more.”
The increase in costs has been driven largely by Senate administration — the public servants attached to the upper house.
STRONG REBUKE.
Plett’s comments prompted a strong rebuke from some Trudeau-appointed senators, who said his criticism of budget increases could be read as an attack on the bureaucrats who serve senators and their political staff.
Plett said that was not his intention.
sorry! sorry! sorry!

Unelected, unaccountable politicians wasting tax dollars?
Who would have thought…………………..
Pigs at the trough.
The senators join with the outrageous extravagances of the Dear Leader, the Governor General, the CBC and the federal bureaucracy in giving the middle finger to Canadians in the private sector struggling to make ends meet. But remember: “we are all in this together”.
You would think that Chinese infiltrator that Blackie appointed to the Senate, would get funding from his home country.
Empires get built.
Then Empires Fall.
Will governmental bureaucracies be the exception?
In a Free and Independant ALBERTA, a lifelong moratorium MUST be placed against ANY public service union wishing to Organize and CERTIFY.
LET those Socialist Scum Eat CAKE…
We’re well and truly doomed if “attack on bureaucrats” is a bridge too far for conservatives.
Kate – replace “bureaucrat” with “transgender” or any other vulnerable group that supports the Liberals and you can see that your statement is heresy.
Harper asked Duffy to pay $90,000 back. And, in CBC world that reasonable request was turned into a scandalous situation. There’s no fear that the Liberals will endure such a scandal or scrutiny over a measly 70% increase. A trinket, a bauble.
This country thrives on mediocrity and weakness.
How many Canadians (if they knew what went on in the House of Commons or cared) feel that Plett went too far?
As is said, a country can survive a tyrant; it cannot survive its fools.
Hey , hey, let’s not quibble about a few extra dollars.
Remember that thing the Senate did to make our lives better and uhh….
1996 was the last time they rejected a bill.
Remember that thing the Senate did to make our lives better and uhh….1996 was the last time they rejected a bill.
The Senate used to be able to reject bills indefinitely. I can’t remember when or how it was accomplished, but today the Senate can only reject a Commons bill once, I seem to think.
When the country was in a state of national order emergency recently, it was only one senator who made a speech denouncing it. The elected MPs of all parties meekly supported Trudeau in fear of reprisals from the deep state and its media complex.
At that time, it was rumoured that Trudeau withdrew his emergency powers before the Senate could reject the emergency invocation.
We will never know the real reason, (other than that the parking problem in Ottawa was resolved and the border crossings were cleared), but the US investment reaction to financial repression was quick and very negative. Trudeau, (meaning his handlers), relented immediately.
Getting back to the Senate, it’s a joke. The HoC is a joke. The whole country is a joke. End it.
The only ones who can end it are us, the People.
And if we do end it, it wont be a pleasant time, chaos will prevail.
How to wind the country down in an orderly way to avoid becoming Yugoslavia 2.0 .
Decisions, decisions.
The West just needs a Pinochet and a cabal of alternative elites to make everything quick and seamless.
People marching and voting is a waste of time.
Well, now, it was the Senate that refused to back Trudeau and forced him to end the Emergency Act. That might count for something.
let us PRAY!
Since 2015, the overall population of federal bureaucrats has increased by 80k+ parasites, I’m sure the senate got a bunch of those…
OJ linked to a Blacklocks report recently that revealed the federal government spends over $50 BILLION a year in “salaries and benefits” on its federal employees. It averages out to over $130,000 per “worker”.
Not a peep from anyone about this disgusting waste of non-government taxpayers’ money. Not enough outrage even from the regulars on this site.
$148,828 on average, or roughly 1.9 times the average household income per canadian household…

Jesus wept. It’s like being trapped in a nightmare where you can’t wake up.
Why not attack the bureaucrats and Senate staff if they are overspending. If they are not overspending, they can defend themselves. Apologizing for pointing out the issue is inappropriate.
“The public … needs to appreciate the hard work we do on their behalf,” he said. “The taxpayers who are paying for it should have an understanding that what we’re doing here is of value to them.”
Remember folks, It isn’t a lie if you believe it.
Government to taxpayers: “go rub your chain with crumbs”
Hmmmm…
How many $16.00 Glasses of Orange juice is that I wonder…?
9,302.
Could the fact that Harper left a large number of vacant seats in the senate in the naive hope that the senate might die.
Justin Castro quickly filled them. That could account for the jump in spending too.
No worries – they no how to save money- they can save at least 138 million if the get more people to die.
How many gears in a Conservative tank?
Seven. One forward, six reverse.
